Libs: Let convicts vote!
Noting “voting irregularities”, such as the dwindling number of people voting for them, liberals have come up with a type of outreach program of sorts: allowing convicted felons to vote. Story here.
Currently, some states do not automatically restore felons’ voting rights when they are released from prison. Some kinda crap about “proving themselves fit for society” or some heartless mantra, I guess. Florida is one such state. Under Her Highness (Shrillary Clinton) and John F’ing Loser Kerry’s plan (hey, he may finally come up with legislation that has eluded him for 20 years!), the libs would expand their base by adding convicted felons to the electorate.
Well, considering that felons are already voting for them, along with dead people, pets, illegal aliens, and terrorists…I don’t know why the left needs to posture to make the convicts happy! They’ve already got a lock on their votes!
It looks like Dems learned from the last several elections: when you keep losing, find more votes, however unsavory the sources may be!
One more gem from this story, from Mr. Heinz himself:
Kerry, who lost the national contest by 3.3 million votes nationwide and 118,000 within Ohio, denied the bill was an attempt to discredit the 2004 results.“This has nothing to do with me,” said Kerry. “It is not partisan, or shouldn’t be.”
Riiiiiiiiiight…which would explain why he was at the photo-op to begin with! Because it’s not about him! Or maybe…”it wasn’t about me, before it was about me!”

Okay Johny, you know me, and all can read my posts and know I am by no means a liberal. I have felt for a long time, even before this was a national or FL issue, that once a convicted fellon has done his time and punnishment including probationary period, they should have all their rights restored and be able to live their lives in peace (the US should not be like the France in Les Miserables). Hopefully we create a punishment system that punishes harshly (No AC, TV, or Comforts of Home) but also re-educates (Teaches reading, math and job skills) Once the Fellon does his time, he can return into society as a productive member.
Another thing to consider, only at best 40% of us vote, and almost all of those are College educated, job holding, people with families, how many of those convicts will actually be motivated to vote. And of those fellons who are motivated to vote, God bless them, if they care enough about the country to vote, they deserve to. 60% of us in America, don’t care enough.

I think Florida has it the right way: it’s not automatic. You need to apply to have your voting rights restored. If you served a reduced-sentence plea bargain for being a pedophile, then you should have your voting rights restored immediately upon release…no questions asked? I respectfully disagree.
You should be forced to prove that since your release, you have effected positive changes in your life, have become a productive citizen (aside from voting), etc. A friend of mine has a brother who served his time, is registered with the state for his offenses…yet has not had a repeat occurrence, and has convinced the state that he will not. His rights have been restored. I have no problem with this. He went through the process. Under liberal plans, no questions need be asked. Again, I disagree.
I just find it horribly distasteful that in their desperate attempt to regain power, the libs have come up with this misnamed “Count Every Vote Act”, and by “count every vote”, they want to include the seediest elements of society. If they want the pedophile bloc, they can have it.

If the libs want to pander to the fellon block as they will see it, fine. That will just go to prove to more Americans, just how messed up and out of touch the libs are, and will drive almost all the rest of the moderate Dems to the Republican Party. The question we need to ask is when does a fellons punishment end. Does a Fellon have to walk around with a Scarlett letter pinned to his shirt for the rest of their life or do we acknowlege that they are American citizens after their punishment and are worthy of all the rights that come with the honor of being part of the Greatest Country in the World.
Lets Be honest, I’m not a Liberal. I’m not like the ACLU and preach for better treatment for Fellons. Murders should be outside the law for the rest of their “Natural Life”. and Murders should have a Miserable life untill the Lord chooses to take him off of our countries hands. I say put them in a 6′ cube and give them bread and water untill then. Light optional, and only enough to read the Bible so they can beg for forgivness from God. The same goes for those who pray on Children and the weakest in our society. The problem is very few of the fellons in prison and out are those most dispicable of criminals. Most are in prison for Drug offences and possession, fraud, theft, and assult without intent to kill. These people need to face the harsh punishment of society and the benificial rewards of re-education. Re-Education is the most important part, if not part of the process to many of them will continue down the same track and become the murders and sex offenders that we don’t want.
To get back on track, those who leave prison, complete their probation, need to have all their rights returned. If not what do they have to look forward to. A life wandering the back country, like Jean Valjean, wanting to participate in life as a free man but being shunned for an inocent mistake he made as a youth.

“All viewpoints are welcome on my blog, whether like or unlike mine. Please, be civil.”
You have illustrated what makes this blog great, Steve-O. Your view is a bit contrary to mine, yet was done intelligently and civilly, and as such, that kind of dialog contributes greatly to the forum here! Thank you!
But you’re still wrong!! (haha…just kidding…sort of!)
