Angry people are scary.
Comment by Steve Bremner | May 24, 2005
Yeah, I know. They end up trying physical confrontations with Paul Wolfowitz (a la Al Franken), running parodies of shooting the president (a la Randi Rhodes), and throwing pies at people with dissenting (conservative or libertarian) views.
How about that, Steve? We agree on something!
Comment by Jonathan | May 25, 2005
Keep checking mediamatters.org by former right wing shill, David Brock for violent attacks on reasonable moderates by the Coulters, O’Reilly’s and Limbaughs of our American Taliban.
Comment by Steve Bremner | May 25, 2005
MediaMatters.org? Geez, Steve, and you seemed so reasonable there for a while.
Yeah, Brock is a former conservative. And Jim Jeffords is a former Republican. And…?
“American Tailban”? You mean Coulter et. al. beat women with sticks for exposing ankles? That’s news to me! Way to keep the conversation above board, Steve. At least you didn’t revert to the ol’ leftist playbook and call them Nazis, so I guess Taliban is a step in the right direction, huh??
Dude, I’m disappointed that this was the best retort you could find. Pretty sad.

Here’s a link to some of the more outrageous statements by the Coulters, Dobsons, Falwells:
http://moose-and-squirrel.com/bozo/bozo.html
BTW, I am by no means apologizing for the Taliban. They are more extreme, but both the American religious right and the Taliban aim to impose their twisted morality on “unbelievers”.
Comment by Steve Bremner | May 26, 2005
The Taliban are more extreme? Well, awful big of you to admit that, Steve! I tell you, just when I thought you were being unreasonable, you go off and “concede” the higher degree of extremity by the Taliban. How tough was it for you to do that?
As for the American “religious right”, blah-blah-blah. With the exception of the occasional abortion clinic bomber or abortion doctor killer (which, by the way, both acts are roundly and rightly condemned by Christians…not that you would know), I can think of few acts of Christian violence as opposed to Muslim violence. That’s a debate you are ill-prepared for, sir.
Come to think of it, you’ve been pretty ill-prepared for many of the debates here. You fancy yourself an “intellectual confrontation” debater, but all you do is recycle (failed and rejected) liberal talking points. By referencing “American Taliban” and “Hitler” and “Nazis”, liberals cede the logical debate to their nemeses.
You have shown with your casual reference to “American Taliban” that you are incapable of logical debate, and rely on the typical (and useless) leftist debate tactic of invoking the names of Hitler/Taliban/etc. MoveOn.org (which, by the way, you can save yourself some time and never put a link to their site when attempting to make another feeble point of yours…the link shan’t be read) ran the Bush-Hitler ad, and it worked really well, didn’t it? Well, Taliban comparisons are identical.
The codified Hitler Card rule of logical debate, aka “Godwin’s Law”, is as follows:
The first person to invoke Hitler or Nazis (i.e. to play the Hitler Card) stops the argument and has officially lost said argument.
Leffingwell’s Corollary extends Godwin’s law to Taliban, al Qaeda, etc. You are intellectually vacuous if you must resort to such invokation.
You’ve been an interesting museum piece, but I’m moving on to the next exhibit.

I could say the same about your tired arguments “talking points” of the right… Fact is whether it is the dictatorship by plebiscite by Napolean III in the 1860′s or the creep of a Nazi fascist takeover is not obvious to many as it is transpiring… It is only after the war crimes and atrocities and torture that the masses profess “I had no idea…”
Comment by Steve Bremner | May 26, 2005
Eric Alterman nails it: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7954027/#050526
The creep towards fascism.
