Those kind, generous liberals
Libs like to fancy themselves as kind and generous and compassionate (with other people’s money, never their own), when they’re not too busy spewing bile and venom in conservatives’ directions. Aren’t they just the charitable bunch?
Well, their idol, Bill Clinton, has been speaking to various charity groups lately, and charging hefty speaking fees for his services. Look, I don’t begrudge the man for charging speaking fees. But billing a charity? That’s almost as vile as diddling a 20-something-year-old intern in the Oval Office!
Full story is here, but here is the gist of the story:
Volunteer groups in Ireland are criticizing ex-President Bill Clinton for charging a suicide prevention charity $125,000 for a 40-minute speech Monday night.“Any initiative that contributes to the prevention of suicide is very welcome,” said Pat Buckley, spokesman for a group of Irish suicide support groups, in an interview with the Irish Examiner.
“But the money it will cost for Bill Clinton to make this keynote speech would fund a lot of counseling for the bereaved and those at risk of suicide in places like Cork, Limerick or Kerry.”
Clinton’s fee, Buckley added, could also cover the costs of “voluntary [suicide prevention] activities of groups North and South.”
(snip…)
On Tuesday morning, Mr. Clinton will attend a breakfast at the Berkley Court Hotel in Dublin to raise money for the Rose Project, an Irish charity for AIDs sufferers in Africa.
It’s not clear whether the ex-president will be charging the AIDs charity for his speech.
Depends on how much hell is catches over this incident. Yeah, right…

Not sure what you mean by Liberals…”with other peoples money never their own”. I think you would have to agree that we all pay taxes and plenty of liberals pay beaucoup taxes. Please clarify….
Comment by Steve Bremner | May 24, 2005
Sure, plenty of liberals do pay a lot of taxes. No question. It’s also clear, though, that many liberals do their damndest to avoid paying taxes. See the Ketchup Heiress, who pays a lower marginal tax rate than over half of all Americans due to creative sheltering of income. Hey, it’s legal…but awfully funny that the tax cuts she derides others for wanting are somehow good enough for her.
Also, I recall in 2000 that Al Gore had a reported income of over $800k, yet gave only $340 to charity. Dick Cheney, the “evil oil guy”, had millions in income, and gave millions to charity.
Or how about Tom Dasshole wanting the property tax exemption on homes in South Dakota (which I hear he has yet to visit since his embarrassing defeat) and in DC? You can’t live both places at the same time, right? So he wants to pay less in taxes, while wanting others to pay more in taxes?
I think liberals make a mistake of equating “charity” with “paying taxes”, which given their view of the role of government as that of benevolent dictator and income distributor, it’s easy to see why they think that. But time and again, I see scores of examples of liberals who have ideas on how much taxes (and by whom) should be paid, yet do their best to avoid paying those taxes themselves…not to mention the scores of limousine liberals who give little to charity (and yes, I know there are many limousine liberals who DO give to charity).
