Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Duke lacrosse rape case dismissed: NYT bias in reporting of it, FNC’s Smith goes off, and more

As you probably know by now, the charges against the Duke lacrosse players have been dropped. This was one of the more egregious cases of prosecutorial misconduct I’ve ever seen, and that sorry #ss district attorney, Mike Naifong, needs to be held liable for wrecking the names and reputations of these innocent young men. Watch Fox News Channel’s Shepherd Smith get medieval in his outrage.

In the NY Times, they observe that the state Attorney General charged with cleaning up Nifong’s mess is a man named Roy Cooper, who is “a Democrat running for re-election next year.” Conspicuous by its absence is Nifong’s party affiliation. Three guesses as to what it is, and the first two guesses don’t count. In other words, the good guy is a Democrat and the bad guy is…um…uh…of unknown party. Nope…no liberal media bias!

Also, a leftist pointy-headed pseudo-intellectual biology prof at Duke isn’t convinced of the young men’s innocence, DNA results and debunked lies be damned. As Ace wryly notes: “Gives me all sorts of confidence in that ‘scientific consensus’ on ‘global warming’ knowing tenured elite-university biologists don’t quite understand DNA.” Ouch. Cut her some slack, Ace. She’s not the only one still holding onto the belief that despite every shred of evidence to the contrary, the boys are guilty.

Ace also really nails this one out of the park:

Oh, sure, maybe they didn’t “rape” a girl. But you know — they were blasting Ben Folds’ cover of Bitches Ain’t Shit a couple of nights, while, eyewtinesses reports say, they were drinking beer despite being two years below the legal drinking age!

So, you know, who’s really to blame here? They were asking for it. Look at how they behaved. They were dressing like hooligans with their caps all backwards ‘n shit, shakin’ their little tight white asses; they were almost begging to be raped by the legal system and Duke University.

Damn…just “damn”!

Quote of the day

Hat tip to Van Helsing at Moonbattery:

A New York Magazine profile of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann offers a clue as to how this venom-spewing leftist got so angry:
It probably won’t come as much of a surprise that when Keith Olbermann was a kid, he got the tar kicked out of him on a regular basis. And not by the football team. “I got beat up by girls all the time,” says Olbermann. “They literally posted a sign-up sheet and would take turns. I think that’s why I’ve always been such a fan of Mencken’s line, ‘Afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted.’ I’ve been afflicted.” (No disagreements here, Blabs. – Ed.)

OpinionJournal’s take:

It’s been said that a conservative is a liberal who’s been mugged by reality. Apparently a liberal is someone who’s been mugged by little girls.

Ouch.

Obama ticking off blacks for not stating the obvious

I’ve avoided the Imus flap for two main reasons: (1) it’s getting enough coverage everywhere else that there’s not much for me to add; and (2) it doesn’t take a genius to see that the man said something so monumentally stupid.

Though I am obviously no fan of the empty suit from Illinois who’d like to be president (despite his pledge a couple of years ago to not seek the Oval Office), it seems to me that Sen. Barack Obama is catching hell for nothing. From the Boston fishwrap:

With the Rev. Al Sharpton leading calls Monday for radio host Don Imus to be fired over racially insensitive remarks, Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign avoided the controversy throughout the day.

Not until Monday evening, five days after Imus’s comments were uttered and hours after CBS Radio and MSNBC announced a two-week suspension for the radio host, did Obama weigh in, saying in a statement: “The comments of Don Imus were divisive, hurtful, and offensive to Americans of all backgrounds.” Obama did not address whether he thought Imus should be taken off the air.

The episode is the first test of how Obama — who is of mixed-race background — is handling the contentious issue of race in his presidential campaign. Even as polls have shown other Democrats attracting a large share of the black vote, Obama has steered clear of the kind of activism symbolized by Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who were both highly visible in the Imus episode but whose aggressiveness on race issues has alienated some white voters in the past.

Quick sidebar: Sharpton’s and Jackson’s race-baiting as alienated SOME white voters IN THE PAST?? Earth to Boston: their race-baiting alienates MOST non-black voters PAST, PRESENT, and foreseeable FUTURE! That racist Shartpon has yet to apologize or be held fully accountable for his actions that have led to the death and assault and smearing of others: falsely accusing Steven Pagones of rape and mutilation of little Tawana Brawley (a crime that never occurred and cost Al $345k in defamation damages); inciting murder of “white interlopers” and arson at Freddie’s Fashion Mart in Harlem; inciting the Crown Heights Riot because a Jewish cabbie had accidentally killed a black youth (an innocent Jew was stabbed to death in Sharpton’s incited riot); etc. Until such time as that son of a b#tch apologizes or is held fully accountable, I have little tolerance for his calls for an apology from anyone! Now, back to the main point…

But with Obama battling other Democrats — most notably Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York — for the support of black voters, the candidate’s reticence on the Imus issue set off alarms yesterday among some black activists who are anxious to see him more forcefully push for racial justice.

Melissa Harris Lacewell, a professor of politics and African-American studies at Princeton University, said Obama missed an opportunity to prove himself to blacks and white liberals who would have wanted Obama take the lead in denouncing Imus.

Lambasting an easy target qualifies as “leadership” in liberal circles? Wow. Good thing they’re not overly concerned with terrorism or defense matters, since they clearly have bigger fish (an idiot broadcaster) to fry.

Barry O must not be black enough, since he’s not piling on Imus like everyone else is. I have little sympathy for Imus here, but why is it news for a politician NOT to say something that really doesn’t need to be said? Is our society so driven by the sound bite that Osamabama’s failure to follow the sheep is newsworthy? I suppose ALL politicians have to find a camera or microphone ASAP, so as not to give the appearance of condoning Imus’ remarks? How ludicrous!

Pelosi to meet with Ahmanutjob?

Not content to resting on her laurels after a meeting with the chinless terrorist-enabling regime of Syria, My Damn…er, “Madame”…Speaker Pelosi wants to cuddle with the top Iranian weirdbeard himself. From San Fran-istan’s fishwrap:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Tom Lantos, D-San Mateo, just back from a trip to Syria that sparked sharp criticism from Republicans and the Bush administration, suggested Tuesday that they may be interested in taking another diplomatic trip – to open a dialogue with Iran.

The Democratic speaker from San Francisco and Lantos, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, were asked at a press conference in San Francisco Tuesday whether on the heels of their recent trip to the Middle East they would be interested in extending their diplomacy in the troubled region with a visit to Iran.

“Speaking just for myself, I would be ready to get on a plane tomorrow morning, because however objectionable, unfair and inaccurate many of (Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s) statements are, it is important that we have a dialogue with him,” Lantos said. “Speaking for myself, I’m ready to go — and knowing the speaker, I think that she might be.”

Pelosi did not dispute that statement, and noted that Lantos — a Hungarian-born survivor of the Holocaust — brought “great experience, knowledge and judgment” to the recent bipartisan congressional delegation trip to Israel, the Palestinian territories, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia in addition to Syria.

Beautiful. I can almost hear Ahmanutjob singing “Kumbaya” as we speak. Continuing:

“I find the president of Iran’s remarks to be so repulsive that they are outside the circle of civilized human behavior,” Pelosi said, referring to Ahmadinejad’s past comments that Israel should be wiped off the face of the map and his questioning of the existence of the Holocaust.

“But a person of Mr. Lantos’ stature and personal experience is saying that — even as a Holocaust survivor and even recognizing the outrageous statements of the president of Iran — it’s important to have dialogue. I think that speaks volumes.”

I can almost see the dialogue now…

Pe-loco: Mr. President, it’s great to see you! I brought you a gift from my home town. It’s a book called ‘Heather Has Two Mommies’.

Ahmanutjob: Thank you. You are too kind. Ummm…My Damn Speaker, who is this man you bring with you?

Pe-loco: This is Congressman Tom Lantos. He’s a a Hungarian-born survivor of the Holocaust and…

Ahmanutjob: Survivor of the WHAT?

Pe-loco: The Holocaust, sir.

Ahmanutjob: There was no such thing. This infidel is a fraud. Remove him from my presence.

Pe-loco: Sorry, Tom, that sucks for you. Wait in the plane.

Ahmanutjob: My Damn Speaker, where is your woman-garb???

Pe-loco: Oh, how embarassing! My apologies, sir, I’ll get Tom to get my Muslim head scarf from the airplane. Now, where were we?

Ahmanutjob: Denouncing your president.

Pe-loco: Oh yes, we were indeed! Anyway, I don’t know if you followed the goings-on in Florida in our 2000 election, but…

Finally:

Lantos noted that “with the speaker’s support,” he has co-sponsored legislation in the House that calls for making available to all countries — including Iran — nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes under international oversight by establishing a “nuclear fuel bank.”

“So if the Iranian president says that he is developing (nuclear material) for peaceful purposes, we are assisting him in that process,” said Lantos, who anticipated the legislation could pass as early as May.

Maybe we could get the UN to administer the “nuclear fuel bank”? They did such a bang-up job with that Oil-For-Food program, didn’t they?

The perky one in a plagiarism flap?

So that’s what the megabucks at CBS News had in mind when they hired her away from Today? From Breitbart/AP:

A CBS News producer was fired and the network apologized after a Katie Couric video essay on libraries was found to be plagiarized from The Wall Street Journal.

The essay was removed from the CBS Web site and an editor’s note was posted saying the item should have credited Jeffrey Zaslow of the Journal, the network said Tuesday.

The essays are carried regularly on “Couric & Co.,” the anchor’s blog on the CBS News Web site. Couric and producers meet once a week to decide on topics and the producers write them for Couric to read on camera.

An editor for The Wall Street Journal called CBS News to point out the similarities of the April 4 notebook item to Zaslow’s article, headlined “Of the Places You’ll Go, Is the Library Still One of Them?” The pieces talk about how libraries are seen differently by children from their parents.

“We were horrified,” CBS News spokeswoman Sandra Genelius said. “It was almost verbatim.”

CBS would not identify the producer fired for the transgression.

Apparently at CBS News, when they’re not using someone else’s fake documents, they’re stealing someone else’s real ones. On the bright side, the fired producer now qualifies to be a Democrat Senator from Delaware.
