I find myself somewhat agreeing with Wailin’. I think I’d say instead that “While atrocities MAY have been committed in Iraq”.
But… like Wailin’ said, it was irresponsible reporting, er uh journalism by the TNR editors. Where is Dan Blather these days?

Shame on him. While atrocities have been committed by US soldiers in Iraq, to say it’s widespread is irresponsible. Least he was called out on it.
