Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Headline of the day

Not exactly a headline, but the first sentence. Maybe I should have called it a Quote of the Day? Aw, why quibble over semantics? From the Old Gray Hag herself, right out of the gate:

Iraq is a long way to go for a photo op, but not for President Bush, who is pulling out all the stops to divert public attention from his failed Iraq policies and to keep Congress from demanding that he bring the troops home.

Just so I’m understanding this correctly: Bush went to Iraq in order to distract us from…Iraq? Dubya, you evil genius, you!

Silky’s “mandatory preventive care”, redux

Following up my prior post about the Breck Girl’s Orwellian plan to force people to see a government doctor every so often, I give you this frightening nugget from the Silkster (hat tip to Texas Rainmaker):

It’s funny how Democrats will claim President Bush is trashing the Constitution and trampling civil liberties when they talk about a program to monitor communications with suspected terrorists… then they turn around and not only endorse government monitoring of American citizens, but call for such monitoring to be mandated.

Listen carefully to what John Edwards is proposing:

“I think one of the reasons that young people have these kind of results from cancer is, unlike you Lance, they don’t go to the doctor very often, they don’t ride through their pain. Basically what they do is, they either don’t have healthcare coverage or they don’t believe they need to go to the doctor because they feel healthy, they’re young, they see no reason to go to the doctor.

And the result is, whenever they have some kind of symptom, they put it off and they put it off. They’re much more likely to do that than a 54 year old like me. And the result is, by the time they get to the doctor, they have their diseases advanced to the stage it’s hard to treat.

And that’s why it’s so important … that what we do instead is, as part of the universal healthcare system, we don’t just cover preventative care, we mandate preventative care. In other words, if you’re in this universal healthcare system, you have to go for regular, periodic checkups, you have to be monitored…”

If this doesn’t scare the hell out of you, you’re not paying attention. Democrats want to turn our entire healthcare system into a government-run operation, thereby eliminating our ability to pick and choose our doctors and the level of care we prefer (which I still find ironic as they continue to complain about the level of service received at VA hospitals… which are government-run healthcare facilities). And on top of that, Edwards is proposing that the government mandate monitoring of every citizen to force them to see the doctor if they show symptoms of health issues.

So where are the “defenders of civil liberties” now? Why aren’t they burning effigies of Edwards and claiming that he wants to trash the Constitution? Where are the cries of fascism? Where are the protests and marches to protect our freedom?

The silence is deafening…

What if I don’t go to the doctor because I feel fine and am fit as a fiddle? Would I go to prison? Could I be imprisoned for knowing myself and how I feel more so than John Edwards and his Big Brother doctors do?

The left has made “universal health care” the Holy Grail for this country, regardless of how it manifests itself. The same people that purportedly care about privacy and freedom and choice will gladly flush all three down the toilet so long as they get “free” (which, of course, isn’t) health care.

Again, I’d love nothing more than to be able to ignore this shyster. However, with his degree of sleaziness and his insatiable thirst for Big Government cradle-to-grave “management” (Big Brother style), I think it’s important to pay attention to this cretin and make sure that short of accompanying a tourist group, he never sees the inside of the Oval Office.

“Culture of corruption”, Democrat edition

At least the NJ fishwrap references their party. Then again, if they hadn’t mentioned it, we would have known the accused were Democrats. Observe:

FBI agents arrested 11 public officials, including a mayor and two state lawmakers, in towns across New Jersey on Thursday in connection with a federal corruption probe, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

The arrests were related to insurance contracts for local governments, a law enforcement officials said on condition of anonymity because the formal announcement was pending.

Democratic state Assemblymen Mims Hackett Jr. and Alfred E. Steele were among those arrested, along with Passaic Mayor Samuel Rivera, the law enforcement official said. Also arrested were the chief of staff to Newark’s City Council president, Passaic Councilmen Jonathan Soto and Marcellus Jackson, and five Pleasantville school board members.

Thursday’s arrests were the latest in an anti-corruption campaign waged by Christie’s office. Two other Democratic state senators, Wayne Bryant of Lawnside and Sharpe James of Newark, are among others facing pending corruption charges.

Further evidence that corruption knows no party allegiance.

Hilldawg: Social Security “most successful” program, to be funded by massive tax increases

Her Highness is counting on your economic ignorance. From the AP:

Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton promised retirees that if elected president she will not cut Social Security benefits, raise the retirement age or privatize the taxpayer-funded system.

Let’s see: if the number of retirees grows and more money is needed to fund Social Security, and she won’t cut benefits, and she won’t raise the retirement age, and she won’t privatize it in whole or in part, then just how does she propose coming up with the billions needed each year to support it? I don’t have to tell you that the answer is “big #ss tax increases”, do I?

Continuing:

“This is the most successful domestic program in the history of the United States,” Clinton said to applause from seniors gathered in Washington to push their policy agenda. “When I’m president, privatization is off the table because it’s not the answer to anything.”

Yes indeedy, Social Security has been a huge success…so much so, that it’s going bankrupt and can’t reasonably be sustained. That’s a socialist for you: a huge government failure like Social Security constitutes “the most successful domestic program in the history of the United States”!

Also, note her “privatization isn’t the answer to anything” Marxist claptrap. The only logical conclusion that can be drawn from that statement is that nationalization is the answer to everything. My private sector employer will be disheartened to hear that, as will all of yours. Her Highness doesn’t believe in the free market (save for cattle futures), nor does she think that you’re smart enough to handle your own retirement or financial affairs.

Social Security is a Ponzi scheme, and like all Ponzi schemes, those who got in first will benefit while those who paid into it but got into it too late are screwed.

Dems dumping on Petraeus’ yet-to-be-delivered report

My, they must be clairvoyant! From the Washington Times:

Congressional Democrats are trying to undermine U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus’ credibility before he delivers a report on the Iraq war next week, saying the general is a mouthpiece for President Bush and his findings can’t be trusted.

“The Bush report?” Senate Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin said when asked about the upcoming report from Gen. Petraeus, U.S. commander in Iraq.

“We know what is going to be in it. It’s clear. I think the president’s trip over to Iraq makes it very obvious,” the Illinois Democrat said. “I expect the Bush report to say, ‘The surge is working. Let’s have more of the same.’ “

Republicans bristled at the pre-emptive strike against the report.

“Are these leaders asking the American people to believe that the testimony of a commanding four-star general in the U.S. Army should be discarded before it’s even delivered?” said Brian Kennedy, spokesman for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican.

They “know what is going to be in it”, says the Senator who thinks our soldiers are like Stalin and Pol Pot. Little did I know that Gen. Petraeus had called our elected leaders to tip them off as to what’s going to be in the report he hasn’t completed.
