UPDATED: Cops taser UF moonbat
UPDATES AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST.
While I get a perverse sense of pleasure at a Gator student getting lit up like a Christmas tree, I’ll see if I can gin up some outrage at his treatment. OK, here goes: This is an outrage! There. Don’t say I never give you anything. Anywho, here are the details:
Police used a Taser on and arrested a University of Florida student Monday when he attempted to speak at a forum with U.S. Sen. John Kerry during a question and answer session, university officials said.
Andrew Meyer, 21, asked Kerry why he did not contest the 2004 presidential election (um, ‘cuz he lost? – Ed.), which he lost to President Bush, and why there had been no moves to impeach Bush (um, ‘cuz Kerry’s in the Senate and impeachment procedings begin in the House? Dude, after you get both of your brain cells unfried from being Tased, you really should get back to your American history class. – Ed.).
“He apparently asked several questions — he went on for quite awhile — then he was asked to stop,” university spokesman Steve Orlando said. “He had used his allotted time. His microphone was cut off then he became upset.”
While as many as four police officers tried to remove Meyer from the forum, he yelled for help and asked, “What did I do?” Minutes after Meyer started speaking, he was stunned.
Meyer was charged with resisting an officer and disturbing the peace, according to Alachua County jail records. No bond had been set. Meyer was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning, a jail official said.
Orlando said university police would conduct an internal investigation on the incident.
“The police department does have a standard procedure for when they use force, including when they use a Taser,” Orlando said. “That is what the internal investigation would address — whether the proper procedures were followed, whether the officers acted appropriately.”
While it should be a law that we can zap moonbats like this whenever we damn well please, in all seriousness, I do happen to be leaning towards the “cops were a little heavy-handed here” side of things. However, I know how the MSM tends to leave out details so as to portray cops in the most unflattering light possible, so I’ll await the results of the investigation before fully coming to a conclusion as to whether the police overreacted or not.
Until then…fry, you Gainesville moonbat, fry! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OK, I’m horrible…so sue me! ![]()
UPDATE (9/18/2007 – 9:55 a.m. EST): There’s an eyewitness account to the event, for what it’s worth. If true, dude was resisting arrest and was told to stop resisting or he would get tased. He refused. Again, this is one person’s account, so take it or leave it.
UPDATE (9/19/2007 – 7:35 a.m. EST): This is getting better all the time! Dude’s not only a moonbat, but he’s a Troofer moonbat! Way to represent, dipsh#t!
UPDATE (9/19/2007 – 8:02 a.m. EST): I should have known this was coming. Apparently, a couple of the mouthbreathing knuckledragging moonbats from MSNBC is blaming Bush and Rove for the zapping of the UF publicity whore. Bush and Rove, you sadistic b#stards!

It looks to be the case that different participants and/or witnesses to the event are putting out different stories. If you believe the Steve Orlando press release then their story is that they only tried to get Mr. Meyer to shutup after he kept running on and on. I don’t know if it’s true. Even if it is, then they could have just shutoff the mike (they did do that), and let it go at that. The use of physical force, as well as the tasers, comes across as pretty much unjustified, at least thus far.

Somehow, I knew you’d blog this. I did as well, and posted the clip of the shocking footage (sorry for the pun, I couldn’t resist).

RV, you didn’t think I’d pass up on a story about a Gator getting zapped, did you?
Don’t worry, it’s not like I’m inferring that moonbats are unique to UF. God knows I saw tons of them at FSU…many of whom were instructors! Nope, moonbattery is pervasive on virtually all college campuses.

Yum, Fried Gator!
Go Noles!
Comment by Steve | September 18, 2007
I heard the recording of the incident. When they shut off the mike, he started SHOUTING his questions.
In fact, he was not really “asking questions”, but instead was taking his cue from CONGRESS and making a SPEACH under the guise of “asking a question”.
I appoligise on behalf of Florida, we USED TO teach our children better manners than this.

I had the same perverse sense of pleasure seeing the UF Moonbat get lit up. What a clown. Go Seminoles!

In the good old days, he would have gotten a wooden shampoo.
Ahh, the good old days….

Here is the thing, and I may be leaning towards the left here. What did he do that would cause him to get arrested? I watched the video and yes he gave a dissertation on how Kerry “won” the election, but he did ask 3 questions even if they were stupid.
1. Why concede the election if he felt he had one?
2. Why did he not try to get Bush impeached?
3. Was he a memeber of a secret fraternity known as skull and bones?
Granted all very stupid questions but nothing wrong with it, well there are no such things as stupid questions just stupid people. I can see having him ejected and he even told them before he was tazed he would “Walk out if they let him go”. I think the police were well out of line in this.

Sorry, I just spoke to someone else and he said this punk was known to be a practical joker and a major jackass. Fry punk!!!!
Comment by BP | September 19, 2007
Hee hee hee, yeah he resisted big time. The female cop told him repeatedly to cease ,and he kept shoving and wiggling all over. So they zapped him. Good, I needed some entertainment.
Comment by Jenn | September 19, 2007
I’m still snickering from the “don’t tase me, man!” We’re gonna be hearing that for a LONG time!
Almost as long as the “it’s Bush’s fault.” Almost.

I was hoping TTH would weigh in here. Gator-dude was NOT TASERed! TASER, (Thomas A. Swift Electric Rifle) shoots two barbed probes up to about 15 feet and delivers an electric shock during which the shockee is not likely to be saying anything much less screaming. Stun-gun maybe, in my opinion “ACTING!”
Comment by Lee | September 19, 2007
From what I read he was tasered. Some models have a stunner built in, I think. Anyway, I’ve dissected this on my blog. Short answer, I would have arm locked him and removed him without the juice…at least at first. And yes, you will scream and say all sorts of bad words. Maybe not during the actual shock which is of very short duration, but immediately after. I don’t swear as a rule, but after my training I told the instructor his mother and father were not married. Did the police have cause for the arrest. You bet.

I hate to rain on your parade Jonathan, but Christmas apparently came early to FSU as well. Seems two FSU football players were arrested last night after getting into an altercation with TPD officers outside a bar… And one of the players got “lit up like a Christmas tree” via taser…

Me like Taser!
And I saw a better version of the video. Lee was correct. Idiot was hit with the stun gun part of the taser, not the darts. Still hurts, though.
I’m not sure I understand all the outrage over tasers…would you rather get hit with a Taser or a steel baton? With the taser, 45 minutes later you’re under arrest but fine…with the baton 45 minutes later you’re in the emergency room police holding area with broken bones…and STILL under arrest.

I saw the video on YouTube and the kid was certainly obnoxious (I guess ALL Moonbats are obnoxious), and it has come out that he was someone who did this sort of thing to capture reactions on video…he’s a real dope, but again, I suppose that’s redundant!
The video’s at;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CheY0jYXJjY&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fdancingintongues%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2F
He didn’t actually seem to physically resist, but he wasn’t cooperating with police either, and that’s the gray area. SHOULD the police have moved in to subdue this guy right after shutting down his mic?
Was there another way of getting the guy to comply?
Those are going to be the questions asked by whoever has to investigate this. In NYC the Internal Affairs cops wouldn’t be too happy with that video.
I’ll say this, given that he wasn’t actively resisting and hadn’t committed an actual crime, it didn’t look all that good.
Of course, neither did John Kerry, who seems to have no trouble second-guessing American troops half a world away (he “KNOWS” they “terrorize innocent Iraqis” and LA Cops, 3000 miles from his Mass home – condemning the Bratton led crackdown on the Illegal Immigration rally/riot), but HERE, when faced with what looked like police strong-arming an obnoxious questioner, Kerry didn’t even raise his voice to intervene on the goofey kid’s behalf.
If the cops looked at all bad, in this, Kerry looked TEN times worse. His silence made it appear that he approved of and encouraged an obnoxious protestor being subdued merely for asking an obnoxious question!
Think about it, if this had been Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney speaking and a Moonbat got tasered in front of them – we’d have headlines about our “New Police State” from the mainstream media!
You’ve gotta love that double standard!

“He didn’t actually seem to physically resist, but he wasn’t cooperating with police either, and that’s the gray area.”
Did I see the same video you did? When you are told to get on the ground and/or put your hands behind your back and you keep trying to get to your feet screaming…that is resisting, and there ain’t no gray about it. They told him to lay on his stomach several times. Then they warned him he was about to be tased. From the point where they tried to put him on the ground they did everything right, but they should have removed him from the venue way before it got to that point.
Yes, he did commit a crime. Several, in fact.
The police were asked by the event director to remove Meyer. When he wouldn’t go under his own power it became disorderly conduct (and failure to obey a law enforcement command in some states). Then when he would not obey commands to place his hands behind his back and became violent that escalated it into resisting arrest. Some judges would interpret his screaming to the crowd “Help me” as inciting to riot. If, during his kicking and screaming, he happened to connect with one of the officers, then we have assualt on a law enforcement officer.
My arrest ticket would read:
Disorderly conduct
Resisting official detention
Assault on a law enforcement officer
Inciting to riot
Would they all stick? Maybe not, but they are all good charges.
Not only that, if I could find some sort of charge dealing with the fact that this was all a staged plan I’d hit him with that as well.
Where the officers messed up was that they were either not trained well enough or didn’t follow their training. Armlock the idiot and drag him out of the auditorioum as fast as you can. They kept trying to grab his arms and escort him out. Forget that. Get him away from the crowd as fast as possible.

I have no problems with this. Sure, I hate it that one of the players was our best LB, but if the bonehead wants to pick a fight with the cops, then he deserves to get zapped for it.
