Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Hilldawg trashes Mississippians

Not that she stood a Rolex’s chance in Detroit of competing in Ole Miss, but this isn’t exactly the best way to erase that stereotype (a well earned one) of being a northeastern liberal elitist:

Check out this new column by David Yepsen in the Des Moines Register.

In it, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, suggests that one of the reasons she’s not doing as well in Iowa as she is nationally or in other states is because she’s a woman and Iowa has “never elected a woman governor, senator or member of Congress.”

She says that’s the case with Mississippi, too.

But then she seems to imply she’s not surprised that’s the case down South, but given the “quality,” “openness” and “communitarianism” of Iowa she is surprised that’s the case in Iowa.

Hard not to read that as a slam on Mississippi.

“I was shocked when I learned Iowa and Mississippi have never elected a woman governor, senator or member of Congress,” she said. “There has got to be something at work here…

“I think not only do I have to bring people to me, I have to maybe reassure people here maybe more than I do in New Hampshire, which has had a woman governor…

“I think Iowa poses a special burden, or a special obstacle to me because when you look at the numbers, how can Iowa be ranked with Mississippi? That’s not what I see. That’s not the quality. That’s not the communitarianism, that’s not the openness I see in Iowa.”

Doesn’t that sound like she’s saying she expects Mississippi to be backward but not Iowa?

I asked Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer about this. His response: “Clearly, she was referring to the historical fact that a woman has never been elected Governor or to the House or Senate from those states.”

Uh…right.

I’m guessing Her Highness won’t be displaying her fake Southern accent in Mississippi anytime soon.

  1. I am so SICK of the nevr-ending hate for the South! The north has always hated the South and all my life I have heard about how ignorant, inbred, racist we are. Too bad your ancesstors didn’t let us go in 1861; if it WAS “all about slavery”, they would have been rid of several slave states and it would have been “easy” to outlaw it in the rest.
But NOOOOO, they wanted our TAX MONEY and now you’re stuck with us! Suck it up, losers!

  2. I agree KHarn that the stereotypes are unfair!

Stereotypes are generalizations but what makes them unfair is that they categorize humanity which is too complex to be pigeon-holed as the Evil Rich White Racist Republicans and the Compassionate,Tolerant and Openminded Democrats!
I vote Republican and a lot of condescending pricks would assume I was a white redneck(male before realizing I’m female) before ever discovering I’m black.
When they discover I’m black I’m labeled a sellout and an Aunt Jemima!

The people who call Blacks like me Aunt Jemima or Uncle Tom are Douchebags regardless of their race!
Stereotypes are stupid and I thought Liberals were supposed to be thoroughly against stereotypes and bigotry but I guess that is a load of horse manure!

Not to toss flame on a fire, but there is a reason a stereotype comes into existance. You know the old saying.. where’s there’s smoke, there’s fire? Well……. For example, there are a lot of “redneck” types in east county San Diego. So people tend ot make sweeping generalizations that everyone in east county is “trailer trash”. When of course that is in no way true. But…there are MANY who are those things. More that are than aren’t. so, the stereotype fits the majority.

Liberals are not in the least bit against stereotypes. They use them daily. Calling everyone on the right “Rushbots”. When for example, I personally have never listened to the guy.

Oh and Hillary is an ass.

  6. Jenn, do yourself a favor and listen to “the guy”. He’s a treat to sore ears IF you’re a conservative. If not, don’t bother.

And Hillary is a BIG ass…….hole included at no extra cost.
