Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

NYT buries “routing” of Al Qaeda from Baghdad

Way back on page A19, you’ll find this:

American forces have routed Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, the Iraqi militant network, from every neighborhood of Baghdad, a top American general said today, allowing American troops involved in the “surge” to depart as planned.

Maj. Gen. Joseph F. Fil Jr., commander of United States forces in Baghdad, also said that American troops had yet to clear some 13 percent of the city, including Sadr City and several other areas controlled by Shiite militias. But, he said, “there’s just no question” that violence had declined since a spike in June.

“Murder victims are down 80 percent from where they were at the peak,” and attacks involving improvised bombs are down 70 percent, he said.

Great news and huge signs of progress must be relegated to the back pages when possible.  Nope…no liberal media bias!

  1. Yes, if murder and attacks were up 80% it would be on the front page.

I for one am glad to hear good news from Iraq.

  2. Let’s hear it for our troops! Give’em hell boys and girls! To hell with the MSM and the Harry Reids (the war is lost) of this political world. We’ll remember come election time.

  3. Why put this on the front page if it does not advance their agenda? What more could be expected. Thanks for the post, there is no way I could make it that for into the NYT.

  4. I still don’t buy the idea that we’re “winning” in Iraq. Define victory.

  5. I would say that victory is being able to pull out at least 80 to 90% of our troops without the place falling into chaos.

I find it disturbing that anytime the news from Iraq begins to become positive (for those of us that check page 19 and beyond), you begin to see a big effort to pull out NOW. It seems that a lot of people in this country want us to loose (pulling out and allowing Iraq to fall into chaos) or at least want it all to end in disgrace for Bush (and in turn, America, but that doesn’t seem to matter anymore).

As I have commented in other posts, the only thing worse than WAR is losing a WAR.
