Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Why I can’t vote for Huckabee

I have been following former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s campaign, and he’s been coming on strong in Iowa.  He’s a supporter of the Fair Tax, which pretty much skyrocketed him to #1 on my preference list.

However, the more I read about him, the less I like him.  He looks like Jorgé W. Bush redux, especially on the criminal immigration issue.

NumbersUSA, a group who really rallied the opposition to Bush’s and the Senate’s amnesty plan this year (and helped to kill it), calls Huck “an absolute disaster“ on illegal immigration.  Huck has been unapologetic, touting (though in some cases, lying about) his record of giving college scholarships to criminal aliens.

More disturbing details of his record are here.  Throw in some tax-and-spend-and-tax-some-more policies, and Huck doesn’t cut the mustard.  I’ve had almost seven years of “compassionate conservatism” (aka “Nanny State Lite”), and I’m afraid I can’t handle much more.

  1. I agree. Immigration and taxes did it for me. I can’t support him either.

  3. Those are my issues with him exactly. Oh and his name sounds like a character from a Mark Twain novel.

  4. I like the man, but like you said, his immigration and tax record have held me back from choosing him permanently.

I still say come next November I’ll be using the “fill in” slot for Jack Bauer.

  6. Plus, he claimed that fat people might lose us the War on Terror. -seriously

I agree with you about the Huckster.

Illegal immigration is the second most important issue and anyone who is not completely steadfast on securing the borders, is someone I will not vote for. -So, I guess I’m pretty much not voting for anybody…

He has a point. I mean, Ted Kennedy has been trying for years! :-D

  8. I was hoping with no candidate coming from a sitting administration that we would have a field of candidates on both sides that might bring change and fresh ideas to Washington.

However, we are once again stuck with the greatest of the least to pick from. Since there is no other acceptable options, we may be forced to compromise on our beliefs or else we may end up with a nightmare as President.

What issues can we afford to compromise on in order to not end up with the nightmare President?

  9. All of the candidates are the making of my worst nightmares!
Even if I do compromise I’m afraid they’ll demand an all out surrender of my values later on in the game and that is what scares me the most.

Though allowing illegals to cut in line and later participate in the American Political Process is very harrowing indeed.
I just hope some third party candidate who isn’t an open border zealot and respects my liberties runs the turkeys from both parties out of town!

  10. don’t be so misinformed people….the reason huckabee is going to be 1 nationwide or a close second to guiliani is because he is an authentic individual who means what he says(unlike romney and guiliani) and those problems you guys have are misguided…LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT…WHEN HE WAS GOV. OF ARKANSAS 90% OF THE LEGISLATURE WAS FAR LEFT AND HE WAS LEFT WITH THE CHOICE TO GET NOTHING DONE OR SOMETHING, HE DID SOMETHING WHICH ONLY PROVES HE’S OUR BEST HOPE TO GET THINGS DONE IN A DEMOCRATIC CONTROLLED CONGRESS AND SENATE…PLEASE STOP THE IMMIGRATION AND TAXES THING, IF YOU FOUND OUT THE CONTEX WHICH ALL THAT HAPPENED YOU WOULD NOT BE SAYING HE’S NOT OUR NUMBER ONE PICK

Yes, I would. The taxes issue is one thing. But the guy supports Dubya’s amnesty plan, plus he has mischaracterized his own state’s “in-state tuition for criminal aliens and their spawn” program. He says his “soul” compels him to be the open-borders shill that he is, which (a) tells me he’s on the wrong side of the criminal immigration issue; and (b) implies that in order to be a good Christian, you must support amnesty and “free goodies to illegals” programs. Color me with the “bad Christian” crayon, then.

Sorry, Ben, but while I hear what you’re saying, I cannot in good conscience vote for an open-borders advocate.
