Huckabee’s Willie Horton
Those of you unfamiliar with the Willie Horton saga, used in the 1988 presidential campaign, get your refresher here. It looks like Huck has one of his own Wille Horton incidents with which to deal. Excerpts from CBS News (though I think they may be authentic anyway!):
… And then there’s the story of Wayne DuMond.
In 1985, DuMond was convicted of the rape of a 17-year-old girl with a connection to then-Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton: She was the governor’s distant cousin and the daughter of a major campaign contributor. (Funny, and not in the humorous way, that Bubba got away with rape but DuMond didn’t, huh? – Ed.)
As Clinton rose to national prominence, the case came to the attention of his critics. Journalists and talk show hosts questioned the victim’s story and suggested that DuMond had been railroaded by the former governor. Steve Dunleavy, a New York Post columnist, took up the case as a cause, calling DuMond’s conviction “a travesty of justice.”
The story also came with a tabloid-ready twist: DuMond said that while awaiting trial, masked men broke into his house and castrated him. Though there were doubts about the story (wouldn’t that be pretty easy to verify? – Ed.), it engendered sympathy for DuMond among Clinton foes.
…
When Huckabee became governor in 1996, he expressed doubts about DuMond’s guilt and said he was considering commuting his sentence to time served. After the victim and her supporters protested, Huckabee decided against commutation. But in 1997, according to the Kansas City Star, Huckabee wrote a letter to DuMond saying “my desire is that you be released from prison.” Less than a year later, DuMond was granted parole.
Huckabee’s office denied that the governor played a role in the parole board’s decision, but there was evidence (exhaustively detailed here) to contradict that claim.
Charles Chastain, a Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, who was on the parole board at the time, told CBSNews.com the governor met with the board to argue on DuMond’s behalf.
“He thought DuMond had gotten a raw deal,” said Chastain, who calls himself neutral towards Huckabee. “He said he’d been born on the wrong side of the tracks and hadn’t been treated all that fairly.”
…
After the meeting, Chastain said, a number of the board members “switched their vote” from the previous year, and DuMond was paroled.
…
DuMond’s release was delayed because a number of states did not want to take him in, but he left prison in 1999 and ended up in Missouri. Not long after he arrived, he was arrested again – this time for sexually assaulting and murdering a woman named Carol Sue Shields. DuMond was also the leading suspect in the rape and murder of another woman. He was convicted of murdering Shields and died in prison in 2005.
Pressure on the parole board, or bad judgment? You tell me. Either way, he hasn’t been entirely truthful on the matter (not very minister-like, is it?) and hasn’t accepted responsibility for exercising poor judgment in championing the rapist’s cause.
Seattlestan government schools: White kids too smart
More and more each day, we see cases like this where moron educrats chip away at standards of excellence and achievement, especially if the end results don’t mesh with their egalitarian view of the world. From Seattlestan’s fishwrap:
An outside review of gifted education in Seattle Public Schools said the district should act aggressively to diversify its program.
Almost three-quarters of the students enrolled in the Accelerated Progress Program (APP) are white, compared to about 40 percent districtwide.
Concerns about APP were noted by a group of consultants from the University of Virginia who were hired by the district to review the program. Their report was released today.
About 1,500 students in APP are admitted after testing in the 98th or 99th percentile nationally in cognitive ability and reading and math skills. …
Got that? If you test in the top 2% nationally, you’re gifted…unless you’re white, in which case you’re “favored” (despite being in the minority in the Seattlestan school district)! Idiot educrats.
Shrillary cites Obama’s grade school writings as proof of his ambition
Seriously…the b#tch is breaking out elementary school scribblings to get a snapshot of Obama’s mindset. Just when I think that I’ve seen it all…
Since polls have shown Barry O overtaking Her Highness in Iowa, Hillary has been in full panic mode (MSM-induced fawning stories about her “regal” look and “calm in the face of crisis” notwithstanding). From the New Editor:
The Chicago Tribune’s political blog The Swamp notes the latest example of the increasingly bizarre nature of the 2008 presidential campaign.
Apparently in answer to Barack Obama’s sarcastic digs at Hillary Clinton for her well-known long-standing desire to become president, Sen. Clinton’s campaign put out a press release noting that Sen. Obama wrote ‘essays’ in kindergarten and third grade saying he wanted to become president.
Yes, you read that correctly. From the Clinton press release:In third grade, Senator Obama wrote an essay titled ‘I Want To Be a President.’ His third grade teacher: Fermina Katarina Sinaga “asked her class to write an essay titled ‘My dream: What I want to be in the future.’ Senator Obama wrote ‘I want to be a President,’ she said.” [The Los Angeles Times, 3/15/07]
In kindergarten, Senator Obama wrote an essay titled ‘I Want to Become President.’ “Iis Darmawan, 63, Senator Obama’s kindergarten teacher, remembers him as an exceptionally tall and curly haired child who quickly picked up the local language and had sharp math skills. He wrote an essay titled, ‘I Want To Become President,’ the teacher said.” [AP, 1/25/07 ]
Since Her Highness didn’t write a similarly ambitious grade school essay, perhaps something like “Why I want to be a Marxist bull dyke who wants to run a nanny state and wipe my saddlebag-covered #ss with the Constitution when I grow up”, that makes her more qualified (and less ambitious) than Osamabamadingdong?
“The View” thinks Christians would wig out over a teddy named “Jesus”
I could have probably just left the title of this post as “The View”, and that would have told you all that you needed to know.
The moral equivalency moonbats at “The View” think that Christians would freak out if someone named their teddy bear “Jesus”! Though I can’t speak for all Christians, I can say with a degree of virtual certainty that I doubt many of us would be bothered in the slightest bit.
However, I am 100% positive that even if there were a “freak out” among Christians, none of us would be demanding a death sentence for anyone who did that. I mean, gimme a break…we’re not Muslims, after all!
Murtha: “Surge is working”; Reid: “No, it’s not!”
Someone check the forecast of Hell, because Abscam Jack “Let’s redeploy Iraq troops to ‘nearby’ Okinawa” Murtha conceded that the surge is working. However, true to his prior word not to believe any progress reports from Iraq that might show the surge has reaped benefits, Harry “Land Shark” Reid dismisses his buddy Murtha’s observation. From Politico:
Democrats are increasingly bailing on their previously held view that the troop surge in Iraq has been a “failure,” but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid isn’t ready to jump on the bandwagon with other Democrats who say the surge has worked.
The Senate re-opened for business on Monday after a two-week Thanksgiving break, during which key Democrats traveled to Iraq and declared that the surge is working, at least from a security and military perspective. Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), one the top war critics, stunned fellow Democrats late last week with his statement that “the surge is working,” even though he added that political reconciliation has been lagging. Murtha’s view was backed by Rep. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.), who also said the surge worked after he returned from Iraq.
But Reid, in a Monday press conference, ceded no ground.
“The surge hasn’t accomplished its goals,” Reid said. “… We’re involved, still, in an intractable civil war.”
Reid can almost taste the defeat, ergo he won’t allow anyone (including the insolent pukes within his own party) to pull the white flag out of his hand.
It’s official, Reid: You suck. Big time. Punk #ss b#tch.
