Californiastan to control thermostats
Hat tip to Darleen Click (via the American Thinker) for this one:
I’m still fuming over the banning of the incandescent light bulb … done, no doubt, because we lowly peoples just can’t be trusted to act in our own interest … regardless of all the real problems with CFL’s, including inducing migraines and causing skin cancer. Now comes word of a proposed change to California Title 24, “236 pages of state-mandated standards for building energy efficiency”
What should be controversial in the proposed revisions to Title 24 is the requirement for what is called a “programmable communicating thermostat” or PCT. Every new home and every change to existing homes’ central heating and air conditioning systems will required to be fitted with a PCT beginning next year following the issuance of the revision. Each PCT will be fitted with a “non-removable ” FM receiver that will allow the power authorities to increase your air conditioning temperature setpoint or decrease your heater temperature setpoint to any value they chose. During “price events” those changes are limited to +/- four degrees F and you would be able to manually override the changes. During “emergency events” the new setpoints can be whatever the power authority desires and you would not be able to alter them.
In other words, the temperature of your home will no longer be yours to control. Your desires and needs can and will be overridden by the state of California through its public and private utility organizations.Oh goody.
Yeah, yeah, I know: “We’re from the government, and we’re here to help!”
Exit question: if the state is going to control your thermostat, is Big Brother going to pay for your electric bill? After all, they are the ones who controlled it!
McGovern joins moonbat chorus of “Impeach Bush”
History’s version of “The Biggest Loser” (tied with Walter Mondale) has an op-ed that will make the moonbatosphere giddier than CBS News with an “authentic” memo. It seems that Mr. One State Wonder wants to impeach the president with a year left in his term.
Three words, moron: President Dick Cheney.
Shrillary imports supporters for NH rally
Now if she could only get these outsiders to vote in NH…but I digress. From the Washington Times:
Reporters who walked into this Nashua high school today were immediately struck by the crowd — there are visibly more people here for Sen. Hillary Clinton than were here for Sen. Barack Obama yesterday in the same location.
The Clinton crowd was loud and boisterous and their foot-stomping was thunderous.
Many of them were also from Massachusetts.
Clinton gave a few minute speech about how she sees the race for 2008 shaping up, then started taking questions. As she did, I noticed dozens of people start streaming out via the back doors.
Of the 7 people I interviewed, three said they had taken advantage of the short drive to come see both Clinton and Obama in the area in advance of the Feb. 5 Massachusetts primary.
But the others said they were Clinton volunteers who came up to canvass on her behalf this weekend.
Sure, nothing but a spontaneous and uncoordinated rally, right?
Serap Sankoh, a biostatistician from Acton, Mass., said she had been actively recruited to attend and wave signs wildly by the Clinton campaign. “I got the telephone calls not last night but the night before and I’m a die-hard supporter, so I made the drive,” she said.
…
When the event ended I talked to some of the out-of-staters, including Julia Fuchs (must…resist…juvenile reference to last name! – Ed.), 65 and a recent graduate student. She was about to board one of the buses back to New York after spending two days in the Granite State for Clinton.
“We are crazy about her. We came here to stump for her, they told me where to go,” she said. “The campaign paid for everything.”
Oopsies.
Johnny Mac whines over flyer
Someone dial “9-wah-wah” and get McCain a “wahmbulance” to New Hampshire. From Politico:
A McCain aide sends over a crude flyer that they said has been spotted on ATMs around Manchester. …
I don’t see why McAmnesty is getting so defensive. I mean, as a former friend of mine once said, “If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…“
Hag Thomas: incompetent and corrupt journalism the fault of bloggers
Maybe, but I, for one, will not consider my hobby as a blogger to be a success until someone in the MSM accuses me of causing or exacerbating global “warming”! From Michelle Malkin:
The deterioration of journalism–from Janet Cooke to Stephen Glass to Scott Thomas Beauchamp to Staged News Galore to Rathergate to Reuters-gate to More Fake News Galore–isn’t the fault of individual MSM reporters, editors, or shoddy journalism schools.
Whose fault is it? The “dean of journalism” Helen Thomas blames bloggers. Damned bloggers!
Via the Business and Media Institute:“What I really worry about is that I think the bloggers and everyone, everyone with a laptop thinks they’re journalists,” Thomas said. “And, they certainly don’t have our standards. (She’s damn right about that, and I am quite proud of that! – Ed.) They don’t have our ethics, and so forth. There’s a deterioration,” she continued. “Reporters laid down on the job in the run up to this [the Iraq] war.”
Thomas made those remarks in a January 4 round-table discussion that followed the premiere of a documentary about the National Press Club 100th anniversary, “The National Press Club at 100: A Century of Headlines.” The documentary chronicled how the National Press Club has changed over the years as forms of media have changed – from newspapers to radio, TV, magazines and now bloggers. The most recent changes were underscored by Matt Drudge’s June 1998 National Press Club luncheon address.
“I think they did a lousy job and we’re making for it now because the questions that should have been asked were not asked and because of 9/11 and the fear of being called unpatriotic, un-American and so forth. We let the country down,” Thomas added. So, not only is their incompetence our fault. Their cowardice is our fault, too!
I knew Helen Thomas was crazier than a Kos kid on a hunting trip with Cheney, but I had no idea she was foolish enough to keep running with the “journalists have ethics” schtick! My guess is that if you hooked Helen the Hutt up to a lie detector and asked her if her and her kind are ethical and moral and objective, she’d say “Yes” and pass with flying colors. After all, if you lie often enough, you eventually believe your own bovine feces.
