Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

British doctors: We can’t afford to help everyone

In Clintonesque fashion, I guess “universal health care” depends on the meaning of the word “universal”, right?  From the UK:

Doctors are calling for NHS treatment to be withheld from patients who are too old or who lead unhealthy lives.

Smokers, heavy drinkers, the obese and the elderly should be barred from receiving some operations, according to doctors, with most saying the health service cannot afford to provide free care to everyone.

“Screw old people!”  That’s good advice.  I mean, they’re gonna die sometime soon anyway, right?  Why waste valuable time and resources on these wastes of oxygen?  For those of you on the left, the prior sentences were displays of sarcasm.

Yeah, let’s trumpet the virtues of the UK’s socialized medicine.  After all, there’s no reason to think that the same thing would happen here in America if we had socialized medicine, now is there?

  2. I was thinking “Soylent Green” myself… one of my friends is a doctor from the UK. One reason he moved here is because he felt he couldn’t give his patients the care they needed under the UK’s spending guidelines. Need to run a test to rule out a condition? Why bother? Just wait for the patient to go critical; then we’ll know for sure what’s wrong! No thanks….
