Romney quits
Mitt Romney has dropped out. I can’t say that I blame him. After Tuesday, he wasn’t going to win. He’s a smart businessman, so he knows not to waste any more money than he already has.
Hmmm. I endorsed him, and then he quit. What if I endorsed Shrillary next? :-p Sorry, but even in jest, I can’t do that.
College adminicrat humiliates herself in display of political correctness
Here’s a tip to those who are kicking around the idea of crying “racism” in the future: get the facts straight before you do. I know, I know…”facts” to the left is just crazy talk! Anywho, from the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin:
Fliers distributed last week for a party at Claremont McKenna College were denounced as “racist and sexist” by Scripps College Dean of Students Debra Wood in an e-mail sent to Scripps students.
The fliers advertised a “white party” – organizers said it referred to suggested party attire – and pictured a white man wearing a white-colored disco-era suit and two black women wearing tight-fitting shorts and bikini tops.
In her e-mail, Wood said the fliers promoted a “racist party theme.” She urged Scripps students to boycott the party and write letters of protest to student leaders and campus newspapers.
“I am saddened and dismayed, and angered, that students in the year 2008 would use this kind (of) advertising to promote a party,” said Wood in the e-mail sent Friday. “It harms not only women and African Americans, but all of us here at the colleges and undermines our educational efforts.”
The party, hosted by the Associated Students of Claremont McKenna College, was held Saturday night in a large tent erected on one of the campus fields.
The disc jockey who performed at the event and contributed the images on the flier said he was “kind of astounded” when he learned of Wood’s objections.
Tim Scarne, who performs as DJ Timbo, said the “white party” theme “meant you were supposed to wear all white because there were supposed to be black lights.”
…
Claremont McKenna freshman Charles Johnson said the issue has been a topic of conversation on campus.
“There’s a pretty big outrage that she basically assumed that there was a racist and sexist element of the student body going around distributing fliers,” said Johnson, who has commented extensively on the issue at his blog, the Claremont Conservative.
“There are much worse fliers put up all the time, and this really is much ado about nothing,” Johnson said. “I think it is instructive of a breakdown in communication.”
Note the black females in the poster. That wouldn’t exactly conjure up images of a Robert Byrd birthday bash, now would it? Besides, one wonders what the educrat’s response would have been if the Gay & Lesbian Student Organization put up posters for a “Crisco and Village People” or “Tuna Extravaganza” party. I’m guessing the outrage would have been quieter than a Dennis Kucinich 2008 victory party.
Feds sue company for faulty product, then award contract to sued company to make more faulty product
Reason #4,234,178 to leave Big Government out of the health care business: they are excrutiatingly highly incompetent, to a lethal degree. Observe:
A North Dakota manufacturer has agreed to pay $2 million to settle a suit saying it had repeatedly shortchanged the armor in up to 2.2 million helmets for the military, including those for the first troops sent to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Twelve days before the settlement with the Justice Department was announced, the company, Sioux Manufacturing of Fort Totten, was given a new contract of up to $74 million to make more armor for helmets to replace the old ones, which were made from the late 1980s to last year.
Our tax dollars at work, my friends. Inspires confidence in the feds to do things the right way, no?
Why Ted Kennedy doesn’t live in Iran
Drinking too much over a lifetime can fry your liver, to say nothing of other health problems. However, in Iran, it can also lead to the unsavory side effect of public execution. From Ahmanutjob’s land:
A young Iranian man has been sentenced to hang for repeatedly drinking alcohol which is strictly banned in the Islamic republic, the Etemad newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old, identified only as Mohsen, was handed down the death penalty by a criminal court after being found guilty of drinking alcohol for a fourth time, the daily said.
“The defendant in this case has been sentenced to death and the official notification will be given soon,” it quoted Judge Jalil Jalili as saying.
“According to article 179 of the Islamic penal code, if someone drinks twice and is punished for it on each occasion he should be executed on the third offence,” Jalili said.
Mohsen was punished for drinking alcohol three times in May, June and October 2006. In the latest case, he was arrested for drunken and disorderly behavior on the street, the daily said.
The young man had expressed his repentance in a letter, but the judges of Branch 72 of Tehran penal court sentenced him to death.
Spring Break must be a real bummer for Iranian college students!
Saudis strip-search American businesswoman for chillin’ at Starbucks
Today’s “religion of peace” update brought to you by our “allies”, the Saudis:
A 37-year-old American businesswoman and married mother of three is seeking justice after she was thrown in jail by Saudi Arabia’s religious police for sitting with a male colleague at a Starbucks coffee shop in Riyadh.
Yara, who does not want her last name published for fear of retribution, was bruised and crying when she was freed from a day in prison after she was strip-searched, threatened and forced to sign false confessions by the Kingdom’s “Mutaween” police.
Her story offers a rare first-hand glimpse of the discrimination faced by women living in Saudi Arabia. In her first interview with the foreign press, Yara told The Times that she would remain in Saudi Arabia to challenge its harsh enforcement of conservative Islam rather than return to America.
“If I want to make a difference I have to stick around. If I leave they win. I can’t just surrender to the terrorist acts of these people,” said Yara, who moved to Jeddah eight years ago with her husband, a prominent businessman.
…
Yara, whose parents are Jordanian and grew up in Salt Lake City, once believed that life in Saudi Arabia was becoming more liberal. But on Monday the religious police took her mobile phone, pushed her into a cab and drove her to Malaz prison in Riyadh. She was interrogated, strip-searched and forced to sign and fingerprint a series of confessions pleading guilty to her “crime”.
“They took me into a filthy bathroom, full of water and dirt. They made me take off my clothes and squat and they threw my clothes in this slush and made me put them back on,” she said. Eventually she was taken before a judge.
“He said ‘You are sinful and you are going to burn in hell’. I told him I was sorry. I was very submissive. I had given up. I felt hopeless,” she said.
Yara’s husband, Hatim, used his political contacts in Jeddah to track her whereabouts. He was able to secure her release.
“I was lucky. I met other women in that prison who don’t have the connections I did,” she said. Her story has received rare coverage in Saudi Arabia, where the press has been sharply critical of the police.
Yara was visited yesterday by officials from the American Embassy, who promised they would file a report.
I’m not holding my breath waiting for the feminuts to publicly denounce this. After all, unless they can blame Dubya, what incentive do they have to shout rhyming slogans of defiance?
Not a rosy outlook for the Hildebeast
Hilldawg has to dip into her personal cattle futures fortune, to the tune of $5 mill, to fund her wobbly campaign. Her campaign manager and other higher-ups in her campaign are working pro bono. Meanwhile, Osamabama is on pace to rake in another $30 mill this month.
Wasn’t this supposed to be a coronation for Her Highness, until Barry O had the audacity to challenge her? She may ultimately prevail, but at what price?
