PA guv: Whitey won’t vote for Obama
I didn’t go out on a limb with this prediction about a ready-made excuse for an Obama loss back in December, now did I? From the AP:
Gov. Ed Rendell, one of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s most visible supporters, said some white Pennsylvanians are likely to vote against her rival Barack Obama because he is black.
“You’ve got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate,” Rendell told the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in remarks that appeared in Tuesday’s paper.
To buttress his point, Rendell cited his 2006 re-election campaign, in which he defeated Republican challenger Lynn Swann, the former Pittsburgh Steelers star, by a margin of more than 60 percent to less than 40 percent.
Rendell won a Democrat state in a year when Dems swept into power, but it was because Republican Lynn Swann was black? Whatever, dude.
Here’s what I don’t get: Rendell supports the Hildebeast, ergo he presumably wants her to win. If she loses, he’s pissed. If she wins, then she wins because she’s not black…which would make him pissed. Either way, he’s going to be madder than Dan Rather with a 1970′s Texas memo.
If he’s in Her Highness’ camp, why is he challenging Pennsylvanians to look past race, which would benefit Hilldawg’s primary opponent and thus hurt her? Because he’s a dumb#ss?
Coach choking former NBA thug in financial ruin
In case I get any more Euro-queer visitors, you’ll be disappointed to know that “coach choking” isn’t what you think it is. Anywho, from Cuffy:
Remember professional basketball player Latrell Sprewell? Sure you do:Dec. 1, 1997 - Three days after being fined for missing a team flight and arriving late to Salt Lake City the night before a game, Latrell Sprewell let Golden State Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo know that it was best to leave him alone.
Carlesimo was warned by Sprewell not to approach him. When the coach ignored the caveat, Sprewell grabbed Carlesimo by the throat for 10-15 seconds before the other players stepped in. About 20 minutes later, Sprewell returned to throw punches at the coach. He landed a glancing blow.
After much soul-searching, Sprewell recognized his ego problem. Or not:
On Halloween 2004, Sprewell, who was in the final season of a $62-million, five-year deal he signed with the Knicks, said he was insulted by Minnesota’ s offer of a contract extension that was reportedly worth between $27 million and $30 million for three seasons. “I’ve got my family to feed,” he said.
And he hasn’t played basketball since that selfless act on behalf of his starving, landlubber family:
Former NBA star Latrell Sprewell’s home is up for foreclosure and his yacht was sold at auction to help pay off the $1.3 million he owes on the boat, according to court filings.
Sprewell, who once turned down a three-year, $21-million contract extension, saying, “I’ve got my family to feed,” has apparently fallen on tough times. Citizens Bank filed a foreclosure suit last week in Milwaukee County for the $405,000 home Sprewell bought in 1994. Court documents claimed he owed $295,138 in outstanding payments plus interest.
Sprewell, 37, hasn’t played pro basketball since turning down the $21-million extension from the Timberwolves during the 2004-05 season.
He was making $14.6 million at the time.
Jorge W. Bush to give $1.4 billion to secure Mexico’s southern border
The jack#ss won’t secure our border with Meheeko, but he wants to keep criminal aliens from illegally entering Meheeko from the south? When will this madness freakin’ end? From Michelle Malkin:
A reader asked me to check into information that President Bush was pushing a massive foreign-aid package to Mexico to help them secure their southern border against the flow of illegal aliens from Central America.
“We can’t even get our own border straight, and we are going to provide Mexico with funding so they can solve their problem,” the reader fumed. “I doubt the Central Americans are staying very long in Mexico anyway. We know where they are going!”
Too outrageously outrageous to be true?
Well, I checked it out and it’s even worse than the reader described. Far worse.
The plan is called “The Merida Initiative.” Seems that the White House has had this plan in the works for nearly a year with little congressional input on either side of the border.
We can’t finish our own border fence, properly supply our immigration agents and border patrol with all the equipment and resources they need, or get our house in order. Yet, the Bush administration wants to fork over $1.4 billion to Mexico and Central America–with much of it going into the hands of corrupt law enforcement officials and government bureaucrats who have worked tirelessly to undermine our immigration laws. The funding is tucked into the 2008 supplemental budget.
Naturally, the State Department has taken a lead role. They’ve held meetings in secret and cut out members of Congress from discussion. You’ll love the explanation for the secrecy: Mexico is “sensitive,” you see. Also, according to one expert, “Mexico is very protective of its sovereignty and very worried about any incursion of U.S. security forces or private contractors—like Blackwater—coming in to train Mexicans.” Yeah, they’re worried about incursions and sovereignty.
…
At a little-noticed hearing (finally) on the plan last week, seems there was some opposition.Rep. Gabrielle Gifford, D-Ariz., questioned whether it was wise to assist Mexico at a time when the U.S. economy appears to be headed toward a recession.
“Unless we have our house in order, putting millions into Central America and Mexico is not the solution,” she said.
But I haven’t read about any opposition from Republicans. Yoo-hoo. Anybody home? …
There’s more, but you get the gist. Contact your elected leaders (those NOT named Jorge W. Bush) and demand that this funding be cut ASAFP!
Chelsea: Mom’s a “fiscal conservative”
Hilldawg pimped out Chelsea to deliver this most snortworthy of one-liners. BEVERAGE WARNING! Here goes:
It was a surprising choice of topic given the mostly student crowd stuffed into a lounge at the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union. But the first question posed to Chelsea Clinton, who was stumping in Madison this afternoon for her mother, concerned Social Security.
“It is important to me because the Baby Boomers are aging,” the young woman told Clinton.
Clinton, the daughter of presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, said that a return to “fiscal responsibility,” as promoted by her mother, would be one of the ways to secure Social Security. She also noted that her mom, as she referred to Hillary Clinton throughout the question and answer session, was the “most fiscally conservative candidate running” and “the only candidate who tells you how she’ll pay for everything.”
Yeah, I can see how that whole multi-trillion dollar socialized medicine thingy could easily be confused with tax cuts and limiting the size and scope of the federal government.
