Chelsea: Mom’s a “fiscal conservative”
Hilldawg pimped out Chelsea to deliver this most snortworthy of one-liners. BEVERAGE WARNING! Here goes:
It was a surprising choice of topic given the mostly student crowd stuffed into a lounge at the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union. But the first question posed to Chelsea Clinton, who was stumping in Madison this afternoon for her mother, concerned Social Security.
“It is important to me because the Baby Boomers are aging,” the young woman told Clinton.
Clinton, the daughter of presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, said that a return to “fiscal responsibility,” as promoted by her mother, would be one of the ways to secure Social Security. She also noted that her mom, as she referred to Hillary Clinton throughout the question and answer session, was the “most fiscally conservative candidate running” and “the only candidate who tells you how she’ll pay for everything.”
Yeah, I can see how that whole multi-trillion dollar socialized medicine thingy could easily be confused with tax cuts and limiting the size and scope of the federal government.

Fiscal conservatism used to mean keeping the balance budget, which meant raising taxes to cover shortfalls.
It sounds strange, and I doubt it is the sort of thing either you or I would sign on to you, but by that definition, someone like Hillary Clinton could be one.

ECL, I have to somewhat disagree with you.
Yes, fiscal conservatism means balancing the budget. However, if I’m not mistaken, it also means to cut spending before raising taxes. Her Highness would likely only cut spending in the defense budget, and would increase spending everywhere else.

She’s wrong about Hillary being a fiscal conservative, but I hate to admit that Chelsea’s right (file this under “even a broken clock is right twice a day”) about her mother telling America how she plans to pay for her multi-trillion-dollar takeover of the medical industry: “Many of you are well enough off that the tax cuts may have helped you. We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.“
So much for fiscal responsibility. And capitalism.

Liberal Dictionary: fiscally conservative = tax WORKERS to death to pay for entitlements for lazy people who refuse to work and then garnish the remaining wages of those same WORKERS to force them to accept socialized medicine. Argh!!!!!
It’s a sad day when FRANCE is more conservative than America!
