Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Coach choking former NBA thug in financial ruin

In case I get any more Euro-queer visitors, you’ll be disappointed to know that “coach choking” isn’t what you think it is.  Anywho, from Cuffy:

Remember professional basketball player Latrell Sprewell? Sure you do:

Dec. 1, 1997 - Three days after being fined for missing a team flight and arriving late to Salt Lake City the night before a game, Latrell Sprewell let Golden State Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo know that it was best to leave him alone.

Carlesimo was warned by Sprewell not to approach him. When the coach ignored the caveat, Sprewell grabbed Carlesimo by the throat for 10-15 seconds before the other players stepped in. About 20 minutes later, Sprewell returned to throw punches at the coach. He landed a glancing blow.

After much soul-searching, Sprewell recognized his ego problem. Or not:

On Halloween 2004, Sprewell, who was in the final season of a $62-million, five-year deal he signed with the Knicks, said he was insulted by Minnesota’ s offer of a contract extension that was reportedly worth between $27 million and $30 million for three seasons. “I’ve got my family to feed,” he said.

And he hasn’t played basketball since that selfless act on behalf of his starving, landlubber family:

Former NBA star Latrell Sprewell’s home is up for foreclosure and his yacht was sold at auction to help pay off the $1.3 million he owes on the boat, according to court filings.

Sprewell, who once turned down a three-year, $21-million contract extension, saying, “I’ve got my family to feed,” has apparently fallen on tough times. Citizens Bank filed a foreclosure suit last week in Milwaukee County for the $405,000 home Sprewell bought in 1994. Court documents claimed he owed $295,138 in outstanding payments plus interest.

Sprewell, 37, hasn’t played pro basketball since turning down the $21-million extension from the Timberwolves during the 2004-05 season.

He was making $14.6 million at the time.

I really shouldn’t delight myself in the thought of anyone’s financial misfortune, but this thug got away with choking an NBA coach and showed absolutely no remorse whatsoever for his actions.  Then, he turns down a $20 million per year deal because apparently it’s impossible to put food on the table with that kind of chump change.  Problem is, the offers never came after that.  Sucks for you, Spree.

  2. I hope Spree’s kids learn to like Gumment cheese.

Totally off topic but keeping with the sentence at the top of this blog. I was watching Fox News this afternoon (that’s what retirees do when the weather sucks) and they were interviewing one of Michelle Obama’s aides. She told the interviewer that when Barry gets stuck on a subject, Michelle tells him “Barrack, don’t think, feel!”

Damn egomaniac and former POW is gonna get us stuck with that dude!

  5. Spreewell is one of the reasons why I no longer watch the NBA. There’s no such thing as a basketball TEAM anymore. It’s only a thug in a uniform with 4 other thugs playing for an obscene amount of money where they don’t even have to play by a set of rules. They get away with fighting (even in the stands) and do not present an image that I’d want my grandchildren to emulate. The latest Olympic loss by our pro NBA players shows that they can’t play as a team anyway.

  6. Why on earth didn’t this clown pay cash for the $406,000 house in the first place? what idiot with the kind of income he had would have financed a loan on such a low (relative to his income of course) amount?

Most of these sports stars and pop stars have absolutely no idea how to manage their money, they spend it like the Congress of the United States.
