Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

UPDATE: Michelle Obama thinks America has sucked, until now

UPDATE (02/19/2008 – 02:39 P.M. EST):  Heh!  Cindy McCain takes advantage of Barry O’s old lady’s Freudian slip:

Tuesday morning seemed to bring the debut of yet another McCain-Obama flap – this time, Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama.

As she introduced her husband John McCain, the likely Republican nominee, at a campaign event, Cindy McCain told the crowd I “am proud of my country. I don’t know about you, if you heard those words earlier — I am very proud of my country.”

Heh!  Did I mention “Heh!”?

Wow.  This wench could be the First Lady.  Friggin’ wonderful.  From Hot Air:

That’s what she said today, if this quote is accurate.

“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” she told a Milwaukee crowd today, “because it feels like hope is making a comeback.”

Only her husband’s run for president has made her proud of America? That’s…extremely narcissistic and self-centered.

Nothing America has done in Michelle Obama’s adult life, which at 44 goes back 26 years to 1982, has made her proud of her country? Nothing? Not winning the Cold War? Not our regular and orderly transitions of power based on the rule of law? Not the fact that we feed and defend the world, not that we lead in science and technology research, not that we elected the first black president in 1992…nothing? Not the fact that she and her husband were able to go to Ivy League schools before embarking on extremely lucrative careers? Not the fact that we help out in disasters wherever they strike in the world? Nothing has made Michelle Obama proud of her country in her entire adult life?

How sad. I certainly don’t want such a vain pessimist as First Lady.

If you have not yet done so, go ahead and question their patriotism.

  1. [...] them. The day before the Primary day, here comes the “I have a dream” bomb and now today the “I’ve been ashamed of my country until now” nuke. Subtle little feeds to the press with no time for Obama bin Laden to respond adequately. [...]

  2. It will be interesting to see if the MSM decides to pay any attention to that statement. If, for some astounding reason, they are forced to do so, it will be even more interesting to hear the Obama retraction/clarification.

  3. If she has been ashamed of her country up to now I wonder just how ashamed she will be if the dems get in.

  4. full quote –

“What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something — for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I’ve seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it’s made me proud.”

  5. Your point, Jen? She said she was proud of her country, for the first time in her adult life. Nothing else needs to be said or added to that.

I provided the links to her full quotes, so I’m not trying to distort her words. On the contrary, all she did was say what lefties think but don’t always have the sack to say themselves. Lefties think America sucks but could be made better by bigger government. Barry O’s old lady just showed the same anti-Americanism that we’ve come to expect from the left.

  6. I have to agree. The full quote provides no additional context that alters her perception that, up until now, she has not been proud of the country which has afforded her so much opportunity and success. I, among many, find it shameful and offensive.

  7. she said for the first time she was really proud – that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been proud before, she is just even more proud as of late. she didn’t say anything anti-America at all. i don’t see why the right wing is getting their panties all in a bunch about it. maybe because it is really hard to work up any excitement over mccain.

  8. she said for the first time she was really proud – that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been proud before

Oh. My. God. Are you writing this through the Bill Clinton English Bastardization glasses? Since when is “the first time” NOT “the first time”? That’s like saying “For the first time, I have a dollar. But that doesn’t mean I’ve never had a dollar before.” Um, yeah…it kinda does.

Or are you clinging desperately to the word “really proud”? As in, “Oh, sure, I’ve had a modest amount of pride in this sorry #ss country of mine, but NOW…man, oh man, I am REALLY proud!” If that’s what you mean, then thank you for the clarification.

maybe because it is really hard to work up any excitement over mccain.

Two responses: (1) No arguments here; but (2) what the D.C. does that have to do with the price of yak urine in Bangladesh? We were talking about Barry O and his pinko wife, not Juanny Mac. I’ve got a number of posts here where I pile on McLame, so if you want to join in on the anti-McPain hatefest, you’ll find no shortage of posts here to help you with that endeavor.

  9. i’m just saying that i really doubt that she meant what you are trying to claim she meant. she is new to this spotlight so i am willing to cut her some slack. what i was pointing out was not “the first time” but the “really” part of the sentence. she never said it was the first time she was ever proud of this country, but REALLY proud.

but if you want to work yourself into a froth about it, that is fine with me. it’s funny how all the right-leaning blogs seem to get the same memo each morning on what to focus on.

  10. People need to see this in the political context. She is saying, she has had nothing to be proud of in the last 28 years. (She’s 44 now) Well she’s not going to give credit for anything good that happened during a Republican admin. Obama has been beat down for that. Then there is the other 8 years when the country was led by the husband of Obama’s Democratic opponent. First political rule, Do Not give credit to your opponent.

All this was a missed swipe at the last four administrations.

  11. she is new to this spotlight so i am willing to cut her some slack.

Occasionally, I edit comments when I see someone has messed up their comment. For example, if you made a typo, I will edit your comment for you.

Therefore, I wonder if you would like for me to edit your comment above thusly:

“she is a democrat, so i am willing to cut her some slack.”

Lemme know and I’ll fix that for you.

it’s funny how all the right-leaning blogs seem to get the same memo each morning on what to focus on.

If only we could be like the moonbat blogs, who NEVER “seem to get the same memo each morning on what to focus on”, right? Yep, if only we could be more original like the plethora of “stolen elections”, “Bu$hitler”, “Macaca”, etc., memes in the leftosphere. Hey, something for me to aspire to, right?

  12. She said the words, she should have the balls to own them. If they were a mis-statement, stand up apologize and say so. The FACT that B. Hussein’s handlers are blaming the rest of US for misunderstanding poor little Michie is DISGUSTING.

“The Obamas are living examples of the American Dream. Both Michelle Obama and her husband have Ivy League degrees. They make a joint income of over one million dollars a year. They live lives that most ordinary Americans can only dream of. Yet, Mrs. Obama, who wants to be first lady, has been unable to find the pride in America that millions of ordinary Americans feel every day.”

    Shame on her.

Screw her and the Democrap jacka$$ she rode in on.

  13. Big J – just let it drop man… All of us “right wingers” who cannot think for ourselves don’t understand the nuances of the highly evolved leftist cerebellum. Just go re-read Animal Farm and you’ll understand. It kinda goes with the “We’re setting record cold all over, must be global warming…” and the “It doesn’t matter how much energy I use in my Tennessee mansion because I’m paying for carbon offsets that somebody else isn’t using…” logic flows.

I’m sure that you understand that “is” doesn’t always mean is and “first time in my adult life” doesn’t always mean the ACTUAL first time… A lefty can have many, many firsts. It’s all in the nuance. Just ask John F’n Skary.

A great piece of lefty logic on re-writing history is up over at Boortz’ site http://boortz.com/nuze/200802/02192008.html#ethnic I highly recommend the read.

  14. She said the words, she should have the balls to own them.

    Exactly.

and “first time in my adult life” doesn’t always mean the ACTUAL first time

That would explain how Bill Clinton can still be a virgin! He’s had a bazillion “first times that weren’t REALLY first times”! :-D

  15. The leftie troll “Jen” simply projects her own groupthink onto us. Conservatives tend to be rugged individualist types, we tend to blaze our own intellectual paths. Often we fight amongst ourselves about the smallest nuances in idealogy, something march-in-goosestep leftists don’t ever do.

  16. At the risk of being accused of “piling on”, I will note one more thing: Jen made a huge mistake by taking the Clinton path of explaining the statement. You should have waited for the Obama take on it, which I predicted to be interesting. In a poorly executed attempt to rewrite his wife’s statement entirely, Barack said this:

“Statements like this are made and people try to take it out of context and make a great big deal out of it, and that isn’t at all what she meant.”

So, apparently words don’t matter all the time in contrast to what Barack … er … Deval Patrick said previously. While a Clinton would try to redefine a word to suit their meaning, the Obama way is apparently to clarify by adding important words that were previously not used:

“What she meant was, this is the first time that she’s been proud of the politics of America.”

Oh, is that what she meant? Let me check what she said to be sure:

“Let me tell you, for the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country.”

Nope, no mention of “politics” at all. I’m sure that Jen will quickly log this explanation into her playbook for any further comment on the subject.

Hey, how do I sign up for the memo?

  20. Isn’t campaigning on the stance of discontent the American way? When you don’t have anything else meaningful to add, you attack the status quo.

Walk into any small town diner and you’ll hear people talking about how it’s Bush’s fault that they have to pay more for gas because Bush is ‘fighting his father’s war.’ Blaming Bush for the lack of jobs. Blaming Bush for 9/11. Politics for the masses is instant gratification. No one seems to credit the work of other administrations have consequences even when they leave office. Campaigning that any change is good is a campaign with little to offer.
