GOP can’t find Senate candidate in red state
Just when you thought the well of incompetence of the GOP couldn’t get any deeper, the morons one-up themselves. From CQ Politics:
The Republicans’ inability to field any Senate candidate in a Southern state that twice favored Republican George W. Bush for president this decade is yet another blow for a party that lost six seats and its Senate majority in 2006, and is mainly playing defense against further Democratic gains this year.
Having missed the filing deadline, any Republican who might belatedly decide to run against Pryor would have to do so as a write-in candidate…
Nicely done, boys. There wasn’t a single Republican in a red state you could find to challenge a freshman Senator? Dumb#sses.
UPDATE: NY Dem guv Spitzer to resign?
UPDATE (03/10/2008 – 06:19 P.M. EST): As DJ astutely observed, nowhere in the article does it mention that Spitzer is a Democrat. Nor this article, which says that he was caught via a wiretap (Pfffffffff-bwahahahahahaha!). The word appears exactly zero times. Sure, you dig a little bit and find out about his efforts to smear a state Republican, but that’s it. I’m sure it was an oversight, right? Nope…no liberal media bias!
When he wasn’t busy trying to get criminal aliens drivers licenses, the former NY Attorney General, i.e. the chief law enforcement prosecutor, apparently was involved in a prostitution ring. Story here.
“Moderate” Palestinians pay homage to murderer of Jewish kids
Ah, yes…our “partners in peace”, the so-called Palestinians. From Gateway Pundit:
The “moderate” Palestinian Fatah Party under the leadership of Mahmoud Abbas honored the murderer of Jewish school children Alaa Hisham Abu Dheim (in blue shirt above) in the Saturday edition of al-Hayat al-Jadida.
Arutz Sheva reported:Mahmoud Abbas’s official Palestinian Authority daily newspaper has honored the terrorist who gunned down eight high school students at point blank range with the status of shahid, or holy Islamic martyr.
The official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida prominently placed a picture of the point-blank child killer on the front page, with the caption, “The Shahid Alaa Abu Dheim.” In a page one article on the massacre at the Mercaz HaRav Kook yeshiva, his crime was again defined as an act of martyrdom (shahada).
Watchdog group Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) said that in publishing the article, “the PA is sending its people a straightforward message of support for the terror murders and the murderer.” According to the PA’s interpretation of Islam, PMW explained, a human being can achieve no higher status than that of shahid.
Will it cost them?
Besides its effect in inciting and encouraging terror, the honoring of terrorists by the PA has significant financial ramifications, PMW explained. Last week the US Administration sent a request to Congress to allocate $150 million to the Palestinian Authority. However, in response to earlier PMW reports on the widespread PA practice of honoring terror, Congress made it illegal for the US to give money to entities that “advocate” terrorism.
Someone really ought to show this to Condoleezza Rice.
Alaa Hisham Abu Dheim murdered 8 students at a Jewish seminary in Jerusalem on Thursday.
Do our elected officials understand that every dime of foreign aid that we give to those bloodthirsty camelhumping jihadists is a dime that funds terrorism? Apparently not.
Public school textbook intentionally distorts Second Amendment
From Neal Boortz:
I was sorting out some papers over the weekend … and came upon one of my favorites. It’s a page out of an “Activity Book” published by Harcourt Brace, now called Harcourt Education. This page is entitled “Rights & Wrongs” and comes from the Harcourt social studies textbook “United States in Modern Times.” The heading for this page says “In the late eighteenth century many people complained that the Constitution did not list rights of the people. So the authors of the Constitution decided to write a Bill of Rights. These first ten amendments to the Constitution state simply and clearly citizens’ rights that the government cannot take away.”
This particular page (page 14) of the “Activity Book” then lists the Bill of Rights with short explanations of each one. I thought you might like to see what this book says about the 2nd Amendment:
“The Second Amendment * says that states may enlist citizens for a trained militia [army] and provide and train them with weapons.”
Are you believing that? This, my friends, is the way the government schools work to indoctrinate rather than educate. In the heading Harcourt says that the Bill of Rights protects the rights of the people … then they go on to say that the 2nd Amendment actually protects the rights of government.
Are you sending your children to the government to be educated?
Only a boob would believe that every single amendment in the Bill of Rights pertains to individual rights and the rights of the people (not the “rights” of government) except for the Second one.
Judge tells journalist in contempt of court: “The media has to be responsible!”
Do you have any idea what kind of message this sends to would-be journos everywhere? I mean, requiring responsibility from the MSM will do nothing but produce a chilling effect across the (yellow) journalism industry! How in the world do you expect us to ever see any future Ratheresque stories based on forged documents if the MSM is required to be “responsible”, hmmm? From the AP:
A federal judge held a former USA Today reporter in contempt Friday for refusing to identify her sources for stories about a former Army scientist under scrutiny in the 2001 anthrax attacks.
U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton said Toni Locy must pay fines of up to $5,000 a day out of her own pocket as long as she continues to defy his order that she cooperate in scientist Steven J. Hatfill’s lawsuit against the government.
Hatfill accuses the Justice Department of violating his privacy by discussing the investigation with reporters.
Starting at midnight Tuesday, the fines will be $500 a day for the first week, $1,000 a day for the second week and $5,000 thereafter until she appears before him on April 3.
“To maximize the potential that Ms. Locy will ultimately comply with the court’s order … Ms. Locy is required to personally bear the responsibility of paying the fine the court imposed,” Walton wrote.
Locy “is precluded from accepting any monetary or other form of reimbursement,” the judge added.
…
“I don’t like to hold anyone in contempt,” Walton said. “I fully appreciate the importance of a free press. On the other hand, the media has to be responsible
…
“There’s not a scintilla of evidence to suggest Dr. Hatfill had anything to do with it,” the judge said, yet the public notoriety has “destroyed his life.”
Just because the MSM ruined an innocent man’s life (like they did to wrongly accused Olympic Park bomber Richard Jewell) doesn’t mean we need to overreact by mandating something crazy like responsibility out of the MSM! When will madness like this end?
For those of you on the left, this post was rife with sarcasm.
Mugabe: I have not yet begun to fight destroy my country!
Tinpot socialist thug ruler Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe has a fee-vah, and the only prescription is more socialist economic ruin! From Capt. Ed:
With his nation facing an economic collapse of massive proportions, one might think that Robert Mugabe would seek out all of the foreign investment he could find. Instead, he has decided to go protectionist, and chase out what little foreign capital remains in Zimbabwe. Mugabe signed an indigenisation law that requires all businesses in Zimbabwe to have at least 51% ownership by black Zimbabweans:
Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has approved legislation giving local owners the right to take a majority share of foreign companies.
Mr Mugabe’s formal approval of the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Bill comes three weeks ahead of his country’s presidential elections.
Under the legislation, every company must have at least 51% of their shares owned by black Zimbabweans. If not, the government will block new investment, mergers or restructuring.
Zimbabwe already faces 150,000% inflation and unemployment that now may have reached 85%. Their economy has ceased any meaningful production, and domestic capital is non-existent. Now Mugabe wants to ensure that foreign capital also flees by forcing companies to sell their assets at a pittance for Zimbabwe’s worthless currency.
Mugabe has attempted to run the statist playbook with no success at all. He has tried wage and price freezes, rationing, and wealth-redistribution to respond to the economic collapse that he himself created — largely through wealth redistribution, rationing, and wage and price freezes. He has turned Zimbabwe from a net exporter of agricultural and manufactured goods to a pauper nation where most farm land now stands unused, thanks to its control by Mugabe cronies and Mugabe himself.
This latest indigenisation law mirrors what got Zimbabwe into trouble in the first place. After freeing the former Rhodesia from control by supposed neo-colonists, Mugabe forced white farmers off the land in order to ensure that black Zimbabweans could rise to power. Unfortunately, the move destroyed the agricultural industry, and successive similar moves through the rest of Zimbabwe did the same kind of damage.
This law is nothing more than a threadbare attempt to convince Zimbabweans that a little more isolation can cure all of the ills that Mugabe’s policies of massive isolation produced. He still wants to be seen as the champion of the poor. He may even succeed, even though Mugabe has turned into the greatest single source of Zimbabwean poverty in history. His opponent, Simba Makoni, needs to make that point clear in the upcoming elections later this month.
This is what happens when you let a functional economic illiterate run a country: 150k% inflation and nearly universal unemployment.
Quote of the day
Dick Morris has a suggestion for Obama:
The next time Hillary uses the recycled red phone ad, counter with one of your own. When the phone rings in the middle of the night, have a woman’s voice, with a flat Midwestern accent, answer it and say, “Hold on” into the receiver. Then she should shout, “Bill! It’s for you!”
Because with Hillary’s complete lack of any meaningful experience in foreign affairs, and her lack of the “testing” that she boldly claims, she’ll be yelling for Bill.
Ouch! Has Morris been talking to the Irish?
