Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Republican Congressman calls Obama “boy”

Hey, whaddaya know!  The party of this schmuck makes its way into the article!  Had he been a Dem, the party label would have been coinkidinkally omitted.  Anywho, back to the point.  From The Hill:

Rep. Geoff Davis (R-Ky.) has apologized for using the word “boy” to describe Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) at a Republican fundraiser Saturday night in Kentucky.

“I’m gonna tell you something. That boy’s finger does not need to be on the button,” Davis said, according to an audio recording of the event that was obtained by The Hill. The lawmaker told the crowd that he participated in “closed, highly classified national security simulations” with Obama…

In the written apology to Obama, which he personally delivered to his Senate office, Davis wrote “my poor choice of words is regrettable and was in no way meant to impugn you or your integrity. I offer my sincere apology to you and ask for your forgiveness.”

“It’s hard to tell what is more outrageous – Rep. Davis’s condescending and personal attack, or his absurd and offensive claim that Barack Obama is not prepared to defend America,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

Obama talking about condescension?  Now that’s rich!

It was a stupid thing to say, especially in this, the era of the sound bite.  In society today, a white dude calling a black dude “boy” is supposed to be a racist act.  Not sure why, but “The Rules” (trademark pending) say that’s just the way it is.  I won’t argue that (I pick my battles, my friends), so maybe we can all agree that Davis said something stupid.  Monumentally stupid.

Is Davis an idiot?  Yup.  Is he a racist?  I have no idea.  But until I hear Dems denounce their Grand Kleagle of the Klan in the Senate, I’m pretty much going to ignore their selective outrage henceforth.

Exit question: how is it that when Osamabamadingdong calls small-town Americans a bunch of gun-toting, racist, xenophobic, Bible-thumping rednecks, he didn’t really mean it and it in no way reflects his true views of rural Americans; but Davis calling Obama “boy” must mean that he’s a died-in-the-wool Robert Byrd disciple?

  1. Isn’t “boy” a term of endearment in Kentucky?

  2. KG is right. In Kentucky there are no “White boys” or Black boys” but only Kentucky Bluegrass boys!
But are the so-called Republicans gonna give Davis up like they did Trent Lott?
