CO school reverses its “no white robes for the gifted grads” policy

A victory for common sense has arrived!

Remember this story from a couple of weeks ago?  Apparently, the pinheads at the school got an earful from the community for rewarding mediocrity and have reversed its moronic “every grad is equally special” stance.  Way to go, parents and students!

  1. It didn’t mention it in the article, but I wonder if the amount of kids in public schools on modifications had anything to do with their original decision. If a kid has an IEP that says he can only do half the work of the other kids and can’t get below an 85 without a retry, I could see how that would annoy a teacher when she sees a kid get one A- in advanced calculus and not get to wear “the robe”.

  3. Ha Ha Lee. Small children have killed my abililty to be concise.

Didn’t mean to get off the subject (but I’m good at it), but I’ve been inundated with crazy Individual Education Plans over my high school teaching years and I still hear about crazier ones from those I worked with. The craziest was a kid with an IQ in the 60s who was in a Physics class. He pretty much had to only spell the title of the course to pass it, make the honor roll, etc.

I’m just wondering if mainstreaming kids and out of control IEPs lead to this decision.

  4. OK, I now have a bit more of a handle on it.

Alli. you have my undying appreciation for your chosen profession, I wouldn’t do it unless I was allowed to wear a helmet, flak jacket and sidearm. (A big one whose caliber started with a “four”.)
