Time magazine: Sadr’s surrender = a win
Our favorite weirdbeard in Iraq, Mookie al-Sadr, caved to the new Iraqi government. in the eyes of Time magazine, that act is a rousing victory for Mookie. Heck, even the headline of the Time piece is…I swear, I’m not making this up…”Al-Sadr Wins Another Round“!
As Ed Morrissey notes:
Another round? Kukis still thinks that Sadr prevailed in Basra by not losing in the first 48 hours. Even the New York Times acknowledged Maliki’s victory in Basra, noting that the residents now enjoy a relatively normal and liberated life in the city on which Sadr imposed a Taliban-like code. The Mahdis have disappeared from the south, and Maliki’s forces control Basra after several years of Sadr’s grip on the area. How exactly did Sadr win that round?
By that logic, since the 8th seeded Atlanta Hawks took the top seeded Boston Celtics to seven games in their NBA playoff first round series, even though the Celtics won four games to three…the Hawks really won! I mean, it wasn’t an #sskicking, so it must be a win.
Nope…no liberal media bias!
Miami targeting good samaritans
I could have just as easily labeled this post “No good deed goes unpunished”, but the impact isn’t quite the same. From South Flori-duh!:
A man who said he thought he was just helping a woman in need is accused of running an illegal taxi service.
Miami-Dade County’s Consumer Services Department has slapped Rosco O’Neil with $2,000 worth of fines, but O’Neil claims he is falsely accused.
“I ain’t running nothing illegal,” O’Neil said.
The 78-year-old said he was walking into a Winn-Dixie to get some groceries when he was approached by a woman who said she needed a ride.
“She asked me, ‘Do I do a service?’” O’Neil said. “I told her no. She said, ‘I need help getting home.’”
O’Neil told the woman if she was still there when he finished his shopping, he would give her a ride. She was, so he did.
As it turned out, the woman was an undercover employee with the consumer services department targeting people providing illegal taxi services.
“She said the reason she targeted him (is because) she saw him sitting in his car for a few minutes,” said Ellen Novodeletsky, O’Neil’s attorney. …
Moral of the story? Don’t give elderly women on their feet a ride. It’s not worth the hassle.
Look at the bright side: Miami must have finally solved its well-publicized drug, rape, murder, gang, and robbery problems and is looking for more stuff to safe its citizens from…right?
Mom sues CT town when daughter steps in dog pile
This woman’s case is remarkably similar to what her little girl stepped in, don’t you think? From CT:
A New York woman has filed a $100 claim against Norwalk, Conn. saying a family outing to the Maritime Aquarium was ruined by dog feces.
The woman claims her child’s shoes, along with the entire outing, were ruined when her 1-year-old stepped in dog feces outside the Maritime Garage.
City attorney M. Jeffry Spahr said the official response is that her claim is denied and, in his words, “poop happens.”
Kelly DeBrocky of Mahopac, N.Y., wants the city to reimburse her for $54 she spent replacing her toddler’s ruined shoes and the expenses for parking and aquarium admission on April 5.
Yet another compelling reason for tort reform.
Exit question: Even if I were to concede the woman deserved the $54 for the shoes (which I won’t concede, but follow me here), why should she be reimbursed for the parking and aquarium admission when she was going to the aquarium anyway?
This counts for “breaking news” at CNN?
Chris Matthews gets a “thrill” in his leg and Tucker Carlson notes how the MSM’s collective woodies are at full mast when it comes to Obama. CNN has apparently joined in the orgy. From Michelle Malkin:
You know, when I read about this CNN video via Allahpundit yesterday, I threw up a little in my mouth. The clip of female journalists on a plane moaning as they watch Barack Obama talking on a cell phone was actually filed under “breaking news video” on the CNN website with the caption, “Obama in jeans: Sen. Barack Obama surprises the press corps by wearing jeans.”
Now, the video’s on YouTube. And it really should have a content warning advising viewers to watch it only on a completely empty stomach. Several members of the press corps yell at an agent to “sit down” because she’s obstructing their view. They giggle and sigh “You’re killing us” as he straddles across a row of seats and they furiously click away on their cameras.
Kneepads, ladies?
Nope…no liberal media bias!
Our government bigger than ever
The good news:
The US government posted a $US159.3 billion ($A169.52 billion) surplus in April, helped by the mid-month deadline for individuals meeting 2007 tax obligations, …
The bad, yet utterly predictable, news:
But outlays also set a record at $US244.5 billion ($A260.19 billion), compared with $US205.9 billion ($A219.11 billion) in April last year.
This is what the Dems had in mind when they promised “fiscal responsbility” two years ago? Spending all of the extra money they get on growing government?
