Canucks deport cancer patient for being a burden on their socialized medicine country
But something like this would never happen here if we had socialized medicine, now would it? From Hot Air:
When people tell you how much more humane government-run health care is, ask them to explain the case of Juana Tejada in Canada. Tejada came to Canada as part of the government’s attempt to attract foreigners to fill roles as live-in caregivers, apparently to help the Canadians to save some money on wages. When Tejada herself became sick with cancer a few years after her arrival, suddenly the Canadians didn’t find her valuable enough to treat (via QandO):
Juana Tejada wants to stay – and die – in Canada.
A live-in caregiver from the Philippines, the terminally ill cancer patient will be forced to leave when her work permit expires in two months, even though her period of service here as a nanny was supposed to be the gateway to permanent residency.
Tejada has twice been denied a chance to stay, however, because her illness puts a burden on the health-care system. …
The 38-year-old came to Canada in 2003 under the federal live-in caregiver program, which grants permanent resident status to domestic workers after they complete their three-year assignments and obtain the necessary medical and criminal-record clearances.
Her cancer was found in 2006, during an exam for her immigration application. Tejada appealed to immigration officials to waive the good-health requirement for humanitarian reasons.
“While I am sympathetic to your situation, I am not satisfied that these circumstances justify granting an exemption,” a case processing officer in Alberta wrote in the latest decision. “In the opinion of a medical officer, this health condition might reasonably be expected to cause excessive demand on health and social services.”
Got that? They wanted Juana to come to Canada so she could serve Canadians who needed home health care. When Juana got sick, the same health care service for which she worked couldn’t be bothered to foot the bill for her treatments. Juana worked and paid into that system for three years before they discovered that she would “cause excessive demand” for her treatment.
As Ed Morrissey points out, socialized medicine necessarily results in rationing health care and treatment. Canuckistan ought to be ashamed of itself for deporting a woman who worked to provide the very health care services for Canucks that she was denied when she needed them.
Obama’s anit-Semitic blog posts
Barry O’s caught with his pants down (Bubba-style) on this one. Full details here.
Exit question: How long until we hear from the Obamessiah that the blog authors “aren’t the people I’ve known all these years”?
Jesse, Jr.: Add another chapter, maybe the Book of Barack, to the Bible
And to think there’s a perception of an Obamessiah complex going on! From Politico:
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), son of the one-time presidential contender, said Obama’s victory overwhelmed him.
“I cried all night. I’m going to be crying for the next four years,” he said. “What Barack Obama has accomplished is the single most extraordinary event that has occurred in the 232 years of the nation’s political history. … The event itself is so extraordinary that another chapter could be added to the Bible to chronicle its significance.”
But no, this “Obamessiah myth” is just an urban legend being perpetuated by such notable right-wingers as…Jesse Jackson, Jr.
Dems responsible for $4.00 gas
From CNS News:
As expected, gasoline prices keep rising, and Republicans are placing the blame squarely on the Democrat-led Congress. Republicans apparently see “pain at the pump” as a key election issue.
As of Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline stood at a record $4.00. The price has zoomed above $4.00 in a number of states.
“As a result of this dubious milestone, motorists will pay on average $1.67 more per gallon than they were when the 110th Congress began. This represents a 71 percent increase during Nancy Pelosi’s speakership,” said Rep. Adam Putnam (R-Fla.), chairman of the House Republican Conference.
Putnam said on the Democrats’ watch, “America has become a nation of $4 gasoline. This expensive milestone arrives two years removed from an endless stream of assurances by Democrat leaders that they had their hands on a ‘commonsense plan’ to lower gas prices,” Putnam said Sunday in a news release.
…
In April 2006, Democrats promised the American people a “commonsense plan” to bring down gas prices. But the plan does not include drilling for U.S. oil reserves. (See earlier story)
…
“Every American has a right to ask: What will it take for the Democrat-controlled Congress to finally take action and help ease the pain of the Pelosi Premium on behalf of struggling families and small businesses? Speaker Pelosi has the power to schedule a vote on our plan to begin breaking America’s costly dependence on foreign sources of energy. She should not wait another day to do so.”Republicans are reminding the American people average gas prices under the Democrat-controlled Congress have risen from $2.33 a gallon on January 4, 2007 — the first day of the Democratic Majority — to the current $4.00 a gallon.
There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever. The Dems have been in bed with the treehuggers for decades now, and as a result, we cannot even access our own energy resources. Instead, our economy and way of life are dependent on Islamofascist weirdbeards and on South American socialist tinpots. Nicely done, you leftist bedwetters.
Quote of the day
“You know one of his (Obama’s) favorite phrases is that I would be a Bush third term. Well I think maybe his proposals could be a Carter second term,” McCain told Fox.
Heh.
