Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

California’s economic ignorance exacerbates its fiscal problem, leads to humiliation

Californiastan, the socialist mecca on the Left Coast, seems to come up with a brilliant plan every year when they face a budget shortfall: raise taxes on the rich.  As a result, the “rich” (i.e. those earning more than $100k) are fleeing CA by the droves.

This WSJ column points out how CA’s Marxist approach is exacerbating its problems in the real estate sector, government sector, etc.  But how about adding this insult to injury?

Then last week Toyota announced it is canceling plans to build its new Prius hybrid at its plant in the San Francisco Bay area because of the high tax and regulatory costs. Adding to the humiliation is that Toyota will now take this investment and about 1,000 jobs to a more progressive and pro-business state: Mississippi.

Ouch!  Let that sink in for a moment.  The granola-eating, treehugging, burlap-wearing, incense-burning, unemployable, Gaia-worshipping earth muffins from Californiastan just saw a cause near and dear to their hearts get outsourced to Mississippi…because in terms of business, Mississippi is more progressive:lol:

Alas, the citizens of CA won’t learn their lessons anytime soon.  They will continue to keep putting class envy economic illiterates in power, until their state finally collapses under the weight of horrid fiscal management policies.

  1. Yep. Pretty much sums it up. Don’t throw all of us Californians out in the bath water though. Instead, pray for us. :)

  2. Move, Donna! Get out of Californiastan…save yourself!

I’ve got a number of friends in CA, and I wish they didn’t have to endure such moonbattery.

  3. Donna – might I suggest Arizona? The taxes are much better, the weather is better and you can always drive to the ocean if you miss it.

  4. I mentioned this in a blog a couple of days ago. My actual statement was:

“California’s economy has been reeling from crisis to crisis like a drunken sailor outside a whorehouse since 1979– when Governor Reagan left to be come one of the greatest presidents in American History.”

I left California after seven years. I miss two things: the weather and the high school football team I coached in a rural area. As for the rest: saw it off along the border, tow it out to sea, and scuttle it to make an artificial reef. I’ve never seen so much hypocrisy, anti-American rhetoric, and outright bullshit in all my years on this rock.

  5. Right on TB. And Arizona doesn’t have all the brush fires, mudslides, earthquakes et al.
Crush is right Donna. Get out and save yourself. Maybe we can build a “great wall” around California and make it it’s own country? That way Arnold might become president after all.

  6. We could always give Californistan to Mexico. Since they seem to want to harbor illegals anyway, why not just build that wall and let them have it? I would be fine with that as long as we make sure not to tell anyone in Hollywood what we are doing first.

  7. Yes, and if past experience with Mississippi’s “economic development” social workers is any indication, Toyota is probably getting to operate that plant more-or-less tax free. And they have the gall to tell me growth pays its own way.

Yeah, we like to bang on California for its nasty tax and regulatory burden. And we like to laugh when a Nissan moves its US HQ from LA to Nashville. Doesn’t mean the current taxpayers of MS and TN aren’t getting their tax burdens eased, though.

  8. Well, appreciate all the suggestions guys! I do love Arizona. I’ve been to the Havasupai Canyon 11 times. But I must have a “Remember the Alamo” mentality, because I’m not ready to abandon my state yet. There are some great people here. I live on the Central Coast 1/2 way between LA & SF. Still pretty nice. Getting more limo-libs all the time but still have surfing, golfing, horsebackriding…. Also, remember, Duncan Hunter is from, San Diego CA! Not ready cut and run just yet..

Yes, I know…You’re looking at a map and thinking .. She’s sandwiched between Ms. Boxer, Ms.Nancy, Ms Dianne to the north and the parade of Hollyweirds to the south…!! Eeegads!

See why I need your site!! :)
