Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Michael Savage needs an #sskicking of Biblical proportions

I am not a violent guy.  A smart aleck?  Yeah.  A sarcastic schmuck?  Sure.  Sometimes (some might say “more than frequently”) a jerk.  Believe it or not, I’m really not proud of that.

But man, what I wouldn’t give for just five minutes alone with Michael Savage right about now!  The thrashing I would give to that cretin would be legendary.  UFC fighters would pay me to learn some of what I would do to Savage.  From the NY Daily News:

WOR radio talk show host Michael Savage, who makes a good living being outrageous, found himself in the middle of a new firestorm Monday after he branded most autistic children fakers who just need tougher parenting.

“In 99% of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent?” Savage said last week in remarks that lit up the Internet over the weekend.

“They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz.’”

Ed Moffitt, 75, proudly showed a picture of Bob, his 8-year-old grandnephew. “Bob can’t speak. He never called Savage any names,” Moffitt said.

“We are dying to hear him say ‘Mommy’ or ‘Daddy.’ And [Savage] says that he is just acting out?” said the boy’s grandfather, retired NYPD officer Bob Moffitt. “It hurts me.”

On the air last night, Savage said his comments were “ripped out of context” by “far left Stalinists.”

He said he was talking about kids who were “misdiagnosed,” but repeated his contention that most children who are called autistic aren’t really sick.

Last month, Savage blamed the prevalence of autism on “a racket” to get disability payments dreamed up by “poorer families who have found a new way to be parasites on the government.” …

I am trying to compose myself as I type this, and attempting to do so is proving more challenging than trying to reason with a moonbat.

Anyone who knows me well on a personal level recognizes my sensitivity to and awareness of autism.  Many people out there do not know what autism is, and I do my best to educate people when possible.  I recognize that many people who are underinformed on autism got their limited exposure to autism from the movie Rainman, and that’s a shame, since very few autistic folks are savants like Dustin Hoffman’s character.  Chances are that you will never meet an autistic savant.

Lack of education is one thing.  But a total callous disregard for those who suffer from an illness that affects 1 out of every 150 babies born is inexcusable.  Savage says that his comments were “ripped out of context” by “far left Stalinists.”  Considering I am the polar opposite of a “Stalinist”, I would love for someone to tell me in what context I am to infer his comments, because right now, I’m seething.

  1. Two things:

    1. My sister is a director at a behavioral therapy clinic for children with Autism; they’re not faking it.

    2. Savage is – more often than not – a blathering idiot. I’m not sure why so many conservatives have given this man such a following.

  2. Do people actually listen to Savage? He’s on the radio out here in St. Louis and all I ever hear when I flip the stations and he’s on is him talking about food or “please buy my doctor book”.

  3. Oh, and “Give me money for my legal fund”. Can’t forget that one. :-P

  4. John,

You know my wife and I and how we feel on the subject. If you want, we’ll hold Savage up while you do your business.

Idiots like Savage, who talk out their asses, without true knowledge of the subject, do more damage to disability awareness and advocacy than one could imagine. Now wing nuts who listen to him will say, “Yeah, it’s a far left Stalinists thing.” It reminds me of Rush 15 years ago said ADHD doesn’t actually exist.

Savage’s Acieration is there is not a specific medical diagnosis specifically for Autism. This is semi true, Doctors are doing much more research on this and as soon as a consensus on the specific medical diagnosis is agreed upon by researchers, one will be given. Last I checked it was listed as psychological/ behavioral/ communicative disorder and the specific name is now Autistic Spectrum Disorder or ASD.

However, just because there is no actual diagnosis, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It’s just not specifically defined.

  5. Savage proves that while it may exist in greater concentrations among certain circles, ignorance knows no color, religion or political affiliation. Sad. One must ponder his motivation to firmly grab on to a third rail like this one.

  6. I used to listen to Savage frequently when I lived in California. Living 45 minutes away from San Fukkedup made me feel like I needed to connect with someone else who was an argumentative conservative.

I STOPPED listening to that jackass when he took a woman caller, who had called in to AGREE with something he had said, intentionally misunderstood what she was trying to say, and then cut her off.

I am blunt, argumentative, and something of an asshole. I also generally don’t pick fights for the sake of picking fights. Savage does. There’s a difference between being forceful and merely being rude. Savage is rude.

Although I knew it would do no good, I wrote a lengthy email to the good doctor and to the station, explaining my points and why I would no longer be a listener. I received a form letter in reply. I’m surprised I got that.

I find it compelling that in Bernard Goldberg’s book “100 People Who Are Screwing Up America” he ranked Al Franken at #37 and Michael Savage, if memory serves (I loaned my copy out and it was never returned.) at #22.

I’m a teacher. If you were to tell me exactly what he said, only replace “autism” with ADHD and ADD, I might agree with him. I had a middle school girl flash out a school bus window last year on a field trip. Her excuse? “I didn’t have my meds.” Yeah, but you drank two Red Bulls at lunch and munched on a bag of Skittles while you were walking around during the trip. In my experience, most ADHD is caused by parents not limiting the amount of sweets and caffeine their young chillen’s imbibe. (I am no exception. I was addicted to Mountain Dew at a young age and probably would have been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, but it wasn’t the media sensation it is now– so I learned to cope and get three advanced degrees and publish two books IN SPITE of it.)

    Crush, I’m on your side.

  7. Crush, How about we all hold him down so you can pummel him to a pulp? What an incredibly idiotic and insensitive thing to say. We all know that Autism is a real thing. Just like we all know Savage is a real dumb@ss!

  8. He comes on here in Memphis and I heard part of the show while driving. The part I heard he was busy going off on Big Pharma for pushing the doctors into prescribing pills to Autistic kids to make more $. He’s an entertaining idiot usually, but like him I question the numbers on diagnosed cases. It seems too high.

  9. Jonathan – I listen to Savage from time to time. I did hear his Monday night program, July 21.

I’m not attempting to defend him, I’ve written one post about him a year or more ago and I generally think he’s off his rocker.

But….he did say he is being quoted out of context on this issue and because it is such a sensitive issue, I feel it only fair to mention this. He said his full statement about what he said about autism is posted at his web site. (No, I have not gone there to verify this).

  10. Um… is that a pseudonym, or is that the actual David Drake, author of “Hammer’s Slammers” and “Northworld”?

  11. Savage has as much of a clue about Autism as Tom Cruise has about psychology. Maybe they should date each other.

  12. I had a response to this also on my blog, http://adsoofmelk.wordpress.com. I’m a liberal and therefore not inclined to like Savage anyway, but I try to take people’s comments as they come regardless of their supposed affiliation. I was horrified to hear what he said — as, I’m sure, are all intelligent conservatives who are probably trying to vote Savage off the island right about now.

    What a schmuck.

  14. YOU are all a bunch of America-hating assholes who don’t understand that liberalism will destroy this nation.
you want to fight the war against terror with words and white gloves. HAHA!! I want to see you all politically correct and liberal when the first Iranian missile comes towrds america God forbid!!!!!!!

  15. Savage is a great guy who speaks the truth and thats why you hate him so much. i have not heard his comment about autism but i bet you are twisting his words. i can’t believe that their are wolves among us, that there are people who grew up in this country and hate it, devour it from the inside out. we must be strong and stubborn in matters of future and present national security. how can we be so wishy-washy. had the president been Truman, we would have dropped a nice nuclear weapon on those cavemen, uncivilized Muslim life-haters and that would be the end of it. but no there are asswipe liberals that won’t allow it because they hate this country and want it gone. well you and your islamic allies will never win!!!!!!! Savage won’t allow it!!!!!!

  16. Did you even bother to read the post, or did you just read the title of the post and assume that a blog called “Crush Liberalism” was a liberal blog?

The post had nothing to do with Savage’s views on Islamic terrorism, liberalism, political correctness, Iran, or national security. It was about Savage’s comments that autism was a “racket”, a non-existent disorder that was nothing more than a way to shield brat kids from responsibility. As a father of an autistic kid, I think it’s safe to say that I have more experience with autism than does Savage.

Please do yourself a favor and actually read the post (as well as the name of the blog, “Crush Liberalism”) next time before humiliating yourself in front of everyone with your disjointed ramblings.
