Colin Powell to endorse Obama?
Not that big of a deal, in my view. But Ace asks a question I was also thinking:
Exit question: How psyched are the Democrats to have the endorsement of a guy who “lied us into Iraq” and “twisted the intelligence” and all that good stuff?
Pretty darned psyched, I imagine.

If this endorsement comes to pass, I will have lost a lot of respect for Powell.
Comment by PabloD | August 14, 2008
Pablo;
Me too. After reading his book in 1999 I really believed he was a great man, and I would have happily supported him if he’d run for president.
I see two sides to this. One side judges Powell based on the character he presented in his book and makes me say, “Maybe he sees something in Obama that I don’t.”
The other side, uglier, but probably closer to the mark, is that Powell might be a great man, but one side of that is great and the other side is simply man, which means prone to failure and frailty. In this case, racism.

Pablo and Angry D – I agree with both of you. I too admired Colin Powell tremendously and would also have voted for him for President. Seeing him cave to racism makes me rethink the character I always thought he possessed. They can spin it any way they choose, but the truth is Colin Powell would never be supporting such an inexperienced white candidate. Especially one who continually disrespects our military personnel.

I too agree with each of you IF Powell does endorse Osama. Until that time I’m still a fan of Colin Powell.
