John McCain’s Convention Speech
John McCain may be an older gentleman, but he can still get the crowd to cheer as if they were at a UF football game. Yet, its difficult not to. McCain has an extensive history of giving support to our nation and emanates strong patriotism. He does not separate people based on class, race, political party or gender, but rather unifies everyone by classifying everyone as Americans. Sure, he attacks his opponent (as every candidate that has ever run for any office, EVER, has done), but I find it difficult to respect Obama as McCain admits he does which is an admirable quality. He gives credit to his family, his running mate, and even his predecessors and gives examples of each of their qualities that define American lifestyle. Overall, he draws the audience into him from the very beginning and keeps them on their toes throughout.
However, it’s not about the chants or the protestors, the issues are what really matters and John McCain can serve up a batch of change better than any other candidate. He doesn’t just plan on reforming energy sources or trivial tax cuts; this man is going to reinvent the wheel. As he put it so elegantly “…The party of Reagan and Roosevelt and Lincoln is going to get back to basics…” and I believe that the parties need a wake-up call. Here, he defines conservatism by showing that the welfare state is too large as well as the size of government involvement, which is a direct contradiction to republican values. He also uses definition to explain the state of our education system, our energy crisis, and even the wrongdoings in the military.
As an appeal to pathos, McCain uses his Vietnam War veteran status to get the crowd even more enthralled at his leadership qualities. His examples of respect for his country and strong patriotism instilled a sense of Americanism in everyone in the audience. This tactic is important because a large demographic of voters look for a hero to run the office, and John McCain is definitely an American hero.

Hmmm…McCain reaction to Obama calling his running mate a pig: a call for an apology from Obama for such an insensitive remark.

Obama’s reaction: “Enough!”, “lies”, “swift boat politics”

jen, as usual you are completely missing the point. IF Hussein had said this before Palin’s convention speech where she made the “lipstick on a pitbull” remark, it could have reasonably been construed as an old saying. However, the fact that it was made after, and the audience to whom Hussein was addressing immediately began chanting “no more pit bulls” tells you that it was, in fact, deliberatly aimed at Sarah Palin, just as the “old fish” comment was aimed at Senator McCain.
You were so up in arms about the macaca remark, so who has the selective outrage here?

why doesn’t mccain stop whining about everything and start talking about actual issues instead of rehashing the same lines from their convention speeches over and over?

Are you deranged? (Yes, that was a rhetorical question). I haven’t heard McCain or Palin whining one time, but I’ve sure heard a hell of a lot of whining out of the Obomination! The guy has spent his whole life being a “victim” and it has continued right through this campaign! And if you want to talk issues, GAME ON. Your guys are on the wrong side of every issue!

KG – are you serious? mccain DID say the same thing when talking about hillary and her health care plan. i am sure you were just as up in arms as you are now, right?

this is an old saying that many people use, including obama in the past. do you really need this explained to you? mccain’s policies = pig. palin = lipstick. something new to decorate him but if you look past the shiny new coat, they are still touting the same old policies, so there nothing new to see. it’s still a pig. since she has been nominated she has repeated the same speech over and over and over but hasn’t said anything new or anything about their policies.

give me a break with all this fake outrage. it’s a lame attempt to keep the media and people focused on something besides records and issues. why doesn’t mccain stop whining about everything and start talking about actual issues instead of rehashing the same lines from their convention speeches over and over?

Imagine if McCain had said this about the militant witch Michelle. The libs would be freaking out!

Once again, Obama forgets that he’s running against McCain and focuses his attack on Palin. Perhaps McCain remembers a thing or two from his basic tactics lectures at Annapolis – something about a “diversionary operation” perhaps? The Saracuda has become such a lightning rod for the Left’s hate and discontent that McCain could rob a bank in broad daylight and nobody would notice. Excellent….
