Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

UPDATE: SC Dem: Palin qualified only because she didn’t kill her babies

UPDATES BELOW.

When the Fowlers aren’t cracking jokes about God smiting New Orleans with a Cat 4 hurricane just to mess up the GOP convention, they like to spend their time generating pearls of wisdom like this:

South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, saying John McCain had chosen a running mate “whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”

Palin is an opponent of abortion rights and gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, earlier this year after finding out during her pregnancy that the baby had Down syndrome.

Fowler told my colleague Alex Burns in an interview that the selection of an opponent of abortion rights would not boost McCain among many women.

“Among Democratic women and even among independent women, I don’t think it helped him,” she said.

Told of McCain’s boost in the new ABC/Washington Post among white women following the Palin pick, Fowler said: “Just anecdotally, I believe that those white women are Republican women anyway.”  (Whatever you say, Toots. – Ed.)

She’s half right, folks.  Had Governor Palin committed any acts of infanticide like our boy Obama defends, she would have apparently been fully qualified to run for VP on the Democrat ticket.

UPDATE (09/11/2008 – 06:00 AM EST):  Of course…it was a “botched joke“!

Obama stiffs Girls Scouts

That Obamessiah campaign money machine?  It’s bringing in so much money that…they can’t even afford to send the Girl Scouts some campaign trinkets.  From Chicago’s fishwrap:

Michelle Walsh wanted to teach her 2nd-grade Girl Scout troop about the presidential election.

What the Naperville mother got was a lesson about the rough-and-tumble world of political finances.

Walsh said she called both campaigns and asked for free trinkets she could give the 7-year-olds to help them learn. If they did well, she explained, each Scout would earn her “Ms. President” patch. The tchotchkes would provide added incentive.

A representative for John McCain responded immediately, sending Walsh a box filled with stickers and signs.

The Barack Obama camp wasn’t quite so generous, Walsh said.

The troop leader said she called Obama’s Chicago campaign headquarters and explained why she needed the curios. Walsh said she was directed to Obama’s Web site—where she could buy all the buttons and posters she wanted.

On the Web, a packet of 50 stickers that say “Obama ’08″ goes for $5; a yard sign is $8. “Got Hope?” bumper stickers are $3 each, or two for $5.

Walsh found the prices a bit exorbitant her small group.

She said she asked Obama’s campaign worker again if she could get a few items for free. She pointed out that McCain’s camp had agreed to send a box and, well, her 12-member Scout troop runs on a very small budget.

Walsh said the woman at Obama’s headquarters put her on hold. After a few minutes, she returned with the same answer. The woman told her that she sympathized, but the Obama campaign needs every penny it can get, Walsh said.

“She said, ‘We’re up against the machine and we just can’t hand anything out for free,’ ” Walsh said. “She was very nice . . . but I wasn’t getting anything.”

The woman then directed Walsh to another spot on Obama’s Web site where she could print out pages for the girls to color on, she said. …

Only after the fishwrap’s “What’s Your Problem?” team got involved did the Obambi team get on the ball.  Nice.

Sorry, “sweeties”, but unless you need a third-trimester abortion, Sen. Hopenchange doesn’t have a dime to spare you.

Obama: MSM is attacking me

After being followed across the world by His disciples the MSM, The One of Supremely Thin Skin decided to lash out at His followers reporters today for having the temerity to question Him on His “pig” analogy.  From Politico:

Speaking at a high school in Norfolk, Obama took a few moments to address what he calls “the made-up controversy” of the day, Amie Parnes reports.

Obama said the McCain campaign moved to “seize an innocent remark and take it out of context because they knew it’s catnip for the news media.”

“See, it would be funny, but the news media decided that would be the lead story yesterday.  (I guess they ran out of more newsworthy stories, like Gov. Palin’s pregnant teenager or her Down’s syndrome child, huh? – Ed.)  This happens every election cycle. Every four years, this is what we do. This is what they want to spend two of the last 55 days talking about…Enough!” he said.

Obama called the attacks “lies, outrage and swift boat politics.”

“These are serious times and they call for a serious debate…spare me all the phony outrage. Spare me all the phony talk about change,” he said.

“Spare me all the phony talk about change”?  For a year or more, I’ve been begging you to do just that, pal.

Exit prediction: The MSM, exhibiting signs of “battered spouse syndrome”, will take this beating from the Obamessiah yet immediately circle the wagons around him, defending his abusive behavior.

Exit question: Is this sign of touchiness really the indicator that The One wants the nation to see that he is tough enough to combat terrorism?  What a pansy!

Randi Rhodes: McCain wasn’t really tortured

Moonbats…what else can you really say?  From Moonbattery:

Via The Radio Equalizer, here’s how Air America klaxon and avid Obama supporter Randi Rhodes describes the years of torture John McCain endured at the hands of Vietnamese communists because he wouldn’t accept release before others who had been incarcerated longer:

Of course he (McCain) became very friendly with the Vietnamese. They called him the Prince. He was well treated actually.

If, by “treated like a prince”, you mean “been stabbed, clubbed, had his arms broken, teeth pulled out, broken bones poorly set to where he’s never fully recovered, etc.”, then yeah…”treated like a prince”!

But hey…don’t go questioning the left’s patriotism, m’kay?

NYT cuts loose 550 union workers

Details:

The New York Times is shutting down City and Suburban Delivery Systems, a unit that distributed the Times and 200 other publications to newsstands in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area. With it, the NYT is shedding 550 full-time union jobs. Instead, company will increase its reliance on non-union contractors (read: cheaper) to distribute the Times to area retailers, much like the national edition of the Times, which is distributed by third-party companies.

The unit was formed in 1992 in a bid to diminish the clout of unions over the newspaper delivery business. The Times bought two newspaper wholesalers to form the unit and negotiated a long-term employment contract with drivers. A good idea at the time, but as NYT GM Scott Heekin-Canedy says now, “the business environment has changed dramatically since 1992 when City & Suburban was formed and wholesale distribution is no longer an economical business for the Times Company.”

I absolutely love the rich, chocolaty irony in this story!  The NYT has been a shill for unions since the beginning of time, and they never missed an opportunity to whack businesses and Republicans over the head for seeing the economic burden that unions produce.

Now, with the NYT hemorrhaging readers and advertisers, economic reality has hit the Old Gray Hag right in the mouth.  They are now forced to admit the obvious: unions are, by and large, about as useful as a football bat.

Obama is pro-terrorist rights, and…um…pro-Obama

Dude.

On Monday in Michigan, Obama became exercised when talking about the need to give even suspected terrorists legal rights.

“We may think this is Mohammed the terrorist,’’ he said at a campaign rally, but “it might be Mohammed the cab driver. You might think it’s Barack the bomb thrower. But it might be Barack the guy running for president.’’

Continuing, he got more heated, his voice booming. Referring to the Constitution, he said: “Don’t mock the Constitution! Don’t make fun of it! Don’t suggest that it’s un-American to abide by what the founding fathers set up! It’s worked pretty well for 200 years!!’’  (It’s worked SO well that he and his leftist ilk want to Supreme Court justices to ignore it. – Ed.)

He finished with a sigh: “These people.”  (“These people”?  I thought that was supposed to be racist?  Guess that pendulum only swings one way. – Ed.)

“Barack the bomb thrower”?  Hasn’t this schmuck figured out that “he’s got a funny name” didn’t work as a self-defense mechanism?  Yet here he is, trying again.  Knock yourself out, pal.

Exit question: Dude sure is concerned over terrorists’ rights, isn’t he?

Obama’s “Bridge to Nowhere” attack

Is this a line of attack that The One really wants to pursue?  From Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC):

Mr. Obama delivered over $100 million in earmarks to Illinois last year and has requested nearly a billion dollars in pet projects since 2005. His running mate, Joe Biden, is still indulging in earmarks, securing over $90 million worth this year.

Mrs. Palin also killed the infamous Bridge to Nowhere in her own state. Yes, she once supported the project: But after witnessing the problems created by earmarks for her state and for the nation’s budget, she did what others like me have done: She changed her position and saved taxpayers millions. Even the Alaska Democratic Party credits her with killing the bridge.

When the Senate had its chance to stop the Bridge to Nowhere and transfer the money to Katrina rebuilding, Messrs. Obama and Biden voted for the $223 million earmark, siding with the old boys’ club in the Senate. And to date, they still have not publicly renounced their support for the infamous earmark. …

It takes real chutzpah to attack someone for allegedly supporting something that you voted for!

British columnist: Euros will be mad if Obama loses

For some bizarre reason, this Euro tool thinks that Americans give a wet fart on a dry January Monday what his Euro ilk think of us.  Excerpt:

If Americans choose McCain, they will be turning their back on the rest of the world, choosing to show us four more years of the Bush-Cheney finger. And I predict a deeply unpleasant shift.

Until now, anti-Americanism has been exaggerated and much misunderstood: outside a leftist hardcore, it has mostly been anti-Bushism, opposition to this specific administration. But if McCain wins in November, that might well change. Suddenly Europeans and others will conclude that their dispute is with not only one ruling clique, but Americans themselves. For it will have been the American people, not the politicians, who will have passed up a once-in-a-generation chance for a fresh start – a fresh start the world is yearning for.

Memo to Eurabia: It’s a safe bet that we genuinely, honestly, don’t give a rip what you boobs think of us.  You elect your leaders, and we’ll elect ours.
