Sick of politics?
I found myself actually reaching that threshold over the weekend. In light of the mind-numbing idiocy displayed by an MSM who is so deeply in bed with Obama that they could answer the question “Boxers or briefs?”, I found myself wondering “Just what in the world am I doing all this for?”
I mean, in the end, the winner of the election will be the one who God wants to be the winner. He has allowed some very good presidents (Washington, Lincoln, Reagan) and some very bad presidents (Hoover, Carter, Clinton) to run this country. I defer to His wisdom in those matters. Yes, I will do my part, but in the end, I am at peace with whomever He decides to install in the Oval Office.
At any rate, I’m doing a great deal of soul-searching right now. I’m wondering if there are things other than blogging that God would rather I be spending my extra time doing.

I hear you, as Bubba would say biting on his lower lip, “I feel your pain”. Politics, especially this long, drawn out, bitter election cycle, does seem pointless at times.
But just because God knows who’s going to win doesn’t mean he wants that person to. I think it’s safe to say He knew what Hitler was going to do to his children but I can guarantee he didn’t want what happened to happen to any of his children. The only purposes in many of these horrible events that God has allowed to take place, was for man to exercise his agency and then be judged accordingly. Simplisticly stated, He wants what any sane parent would want and that is for His children to make good choices. But we must choose. He will not take away man’s agency. I’ts my opinion that He would not want Obama in the Whitehouse, however man, or our failure to act, our failures as a society might put him there. The world going to pot is inevitable but good people should be doing everything they can to hasten that day.
You’re doing a fantastic job. Keep fighting the good fight Jonathan.

Hey Big J,
Listen to that “still small voice”, it never has led me wrong in the long run!
Comment by Steve | September 22, 2008
Been there a bunch of times too. However, God will not be deciding this election – the American electorate will. If you stop doing what you have been doing, the MSM has done what they have set out to do: wear down the opposition.
I would hate to see you go, but you have to do what you have to do.
Comment by TheBad | September 22, 2008
Please keep at it. This is an excellent site.

I too would hate to see you go, but you can’t ignore God’s call on your heart. And you’re right; God’s sovereignty is absolute, and He has a plan for our country, including the coming election. Since I can’t figure out what that plan entails, I’m stockpiling food and ammo just in case it involves total economic collapse. So, pray, and vote, and pray some more. You’ll figure it out.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Much appreciated!
TB, you are correct in that the electorate will determine the president. I would submit, however, that God knows what the electorate will do, and that is His will.
There’s an old joke that kind of proves the point. Here’s the condensed version:
A blonde loses her job, and prays to God: “God, please let me win the lottery!” After a couple of months of financial hardships and continual prayers to win the lottery, she prays again to win the lottery. The sky grows dark, the clouds part, and a beam of light hits her in the face. A voice booms from Heaven above: “Throw me a bone, lady, and buy a ticket!”
The point is that God will do what He will do, but more often than not, He expects us to take steps to put His plan in action. It’s like those criminally misguided souls who don’t take their sick child to the doctor because “if God wants my child to get better, then he/she will get better!” You still have to take the kid to the doctor, and then let God’s will be done through the doctors.
I do not know who God plans on winning the election, but I will do my part in voting for McCain, in the hopes that He wants McCain in there. But if He doesn’t, so be it. My life may be impacted by who is running the country, but there is so much more to life than the leaders of our country.
Since I can’t figure out what that plan entails, I’m stockpiling food and ammo just in case it involves total economic collapse.
Pablo, that’s not a bad idea!

I would further submit that one of the steps He wants you to take is to write this site. However small an impact you might think it has, it is impact nonetheless.

Jonathan, you hit the nail on the head.
I’ve been having a similar struggle for quite some time now. Politics has become a drug of sorts and although it’s a dirty despicable business, we’re still inexplicably drawn to it, even though we know it’s oftentimes very destructive to us. Given the choices in this election, I believe McCain/Palin is the right choice for the values most of us here hold dear and I will continue to fight for those values.
However, if after the votes are cast and the recounts and lawsuits are over, the other side wins, I will do my best to make peace with that, difficult as it may be. In the meantime, we must pray for guidance to do God’s will, and also pray for the grace to accept His will, whatever it is because ultimately, God is in control.
Jonathan, perhaps God is using you and this site to accomplish His will by making you an instrument to educate people who otherwise would never be exposed to truth.

Jonathan,
I take a little different view. No doubt He knows who will win, but I don’t believe God wants anyone in particular, but wants our free will to persevere and hopefully the right person does get in.
Although I won’t pretent to know His will, I would venture to say that he did not want Sodam & Gamorrah, but rather wanted the habitants to make the right choices using the free will He provides. By the same token, He uses people such as you as instuments of truth to enlighten people so that said free will can be used to put people into office who will stive to keep this country on the correct path…so please keep it up.

One way or the other, I for one am dreading the 22nd of January 2009 when the election cycle for 2012 starts.
Hillary’s campaign will kick off that day. As if it wasn’t already underway.
Should McCain/Palin win, they will be in a fight with her from day one. You’re right Jon, this crap gets old!!!

Jonathan,
I can identify with your fatigue, but I also think you do a yeoman’s job here and hope that you won’t allow the tedium of politics to force you from your task of cutting through the MSM’s fertilizer. If daily blogging is absolutely making you pull out your hair, maybe just cut back a bit on postings and see if a decreased volume will help alleviate the stress.
I know it’s overused, but it applies here:
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” ~Edmund Burke
Perseverance, my friend.

Do what you gotta do, but keep in mind lots of people are darn sick of politics right now. I wish the election were tomorrow so we could be done with it and move on. Maybe a vacation on a tropical island in is order, followed by a post titled “How Jonathan got his groove back”!
Comment by Alli | September 23, 2008
If God didn’t want you to blog, he wouldn’t have made you so funny.
Good luck.
Comment by Marla | September 23, 2008
I can definitely relate. But this election is probably, (okay, definitely) too important to tune out. Am I going to get in peoples’ grills at work and tell them what to think? No. But I’m going to stay engaged and if someone asks me an opinion I’ll give it to them. Keep up the good work!

Crush it looks like your followers have spoken. As Foghorn Leghorn would say. “You’re doing a fine job son!”

Theory #1 Mccain Palin will win by a hair. God giving america all the free will he can so it doesn’t all come crashing down.
Theory #2 Obama wins, the darkness before light. Maybe that’s where the messiah thing comes in. After he gets in We will need one.
Comment by Sir Deus | September 27, 2008
Oh yeah and keep blogging of course and you might want to start moving what money you can into gold.
