Why polls are worthless

IBD/TIPP:  Obama by 1.1%

AP:  Obama by 1%

GWU/Battleground: Obama by 2%

al-Reuters/Zogby:  Obama by 12%

ABC/comPost:  Obama by 11%

All over the place.  McCain folks will believe the first three, and Obama folks will believe the last two.  There’s tons more out there, but I think you get the drift: right now, polls suck.

Surprise, surprise: MSM coverage of McCain more negative than that of Obama

Who knew?  From the comPost:

Media coverage of John McCain has been heavily unfavorable since the political conventions, more than three times as negative as the portrayal of Barack Obama, a new study says.

Fifty-seven percent of the print and broadcast stories about the Republican nominee were decidedly negative, the Project for Excellence in Journalism says in a report out today, while 14 percent were positive. The McCain campaign has repeatedly complained that the mainstream media are biased toward the senator from Illinois.

Obama’s coverage was more balanced during the six-week period from Sept. 8 through last Thursday, with 36 percent of the stories clearly positive, 35 percent neutral or mixed and 29 percent negative.

McCain has struggled during this period and slipped in the polls, which is one of the reasons for the more negative assessments by the 48 news outlets studied by the Washington-based group. But the imbalance is striking nonetheless.

Nope…no liberal media bias!

Troops not fond of Obama

Why our military personnel aren’t fond of a man who opposes their mission and wants them to lose, I have no idea.  Anywho, from FNC:

A  poll by the Military Times newspaper group suggests that there is overwhelming support for John McCain among U.S. troops in every branch of the armed forces by a nearly 3-1 margin.

According to the poll, 68 percent of active-duty and retired servicemen and women support McCain, while 23 percent support Barack Obama. The numbers are nearly identical among officers and enlisted troops.

U.S. troops also said in the poll that they prefer McCain to handle the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan — 74 percent said McCain would perform better, while just 19 percent said Obama would.

Yet judging by the numbers, it appears that the Democratic party has not made many inroads into the traditionally Republican military.  (Gee, go figure. – Ed.)

When the left says they “support the troops”, the troops are obviously not buying it.

New code word for racist: “socialist”

Just when you thought that there were no more creative ways to cry “wolf”, an unlikely racist term emerges: socialist.

That the father of modern socialism, Karl Marx, was a white dude is apparently irrelevant.  Additionally irrelevant is the fact that the only openly socialist in the Senate, Bernie Sanders from the People’s Republic of Vermont, is white.  Hitler?  White.

Basically, when you think of socialists, it’s usually white guys whose names pop into your heads.  Ergo, in leftist la-la-land, that must be racism.

Quote of the day, “Obama asks MSM to tithe at His altar” edition

Heh…deal with it, MSM.  From Ed Morrissey:

The best-funded political campaign in American history says news organizations will have to pay—in some cases almost $2,000 each—if they want to cover Barack Obama’s election-night celebration in Chicago.

Well, that’s only fair. If Obama winds up getting elected because of the cheerleading of the national media –who vetted a plumber more harshly than a major-party candidate for President — they should start paying before the rest of us pony up.

A memo sent to news organizations on Tuesday by the Obama campaign says credentials will cost $715 to $1,815, depending on whether electrical and phone lines are needed and whether an indoor or outdoor seat is requested for the event, which is expected to be held outside the evening of Nov. 4 in Grant Park.

A little advice for my colleagues in the Tanning Bed Media: think of it as spreading the wealth. Yes, I know it will go to Obama and his team, but that’s where the rest of the wealth will go, too, if Obama wins.

While some may view the Obamessiah as biting the hand that feeds Him, I view it differently: the MSM is suffering from Battered Spouse Syndrome.  The One can beat the everloving crap out of his MSM minions, and they will continue to adore and defend Him.

UPDATE: Another guy the left once hated now supporting Obama

UPDATES BELOW.

An obscure Reagan-era Republican who made the ludicrous statement that Iraq would be a “cakewalk”, Ken Adelman was absolutely reviled by the left…and many on the right, for that matter.  Anywho, as with Colin Powell, Adelman is getting himself lots of moonbat love these days.  Funny, that.

UPDATE (12/20/2008 – 11:24 A.M. EST):  Yet another coveted endorsement for the liberal standard bearer…former Congressman Mark Foley.  Yeah, the same Mark Foley that wanted to diddle teen boy pages and invited scorn and ridicule from everyone.  He’s getting behind Obama…figuratively, anyway.

Barney Frank: Hey, let’s increase taxes on the rich to pay for my screw-up of the economy!

When Barney Frank isn’t taking a man-missile up his squeakhole from his Fannie Mae boyfriend in violation of Romans 1:27, he likes to spend his time taxing the producers of this country through the noses to fund the massive cleanup of his mess!  Transcript from CNBC:

I think at this point, there needs to be an immediate increase in spending, and I think this is a time when deficit fear has to take a second, uh, a second seat. I do think this is the time for a very important kind of dose of [unintelligible]. Yes, I think later on, there should be tax increases. Speaking personally, I think there are a lot of rich people out there who we can tax at a point down the road to recover some of this money.

Dude’s got a lot of nerve.  Fannie Boy told us for the last decade that there were no solvency issues with Fannie/Freddie, and he derided any attempts to preempt the problems we see today as racist attempts to limit homeownership (uh-huh-huh…I said “homo-nership!” ) among minorities.  Now that his obstruction has decimated our economy, he wants the successful to bankroll the housecleaning bill?

Obama camp lies (again) about Ayers association

If I had a dime for every time I accurately noted an Obama lie, I’d never have to work another day in my life.

Did Obama write a glowing blurb in terrorist Bill Ayers’ book?  Obama spokesliars Bill Burton and Robert Gibbs said emphatically “No!  He did no such thing!”  There’s just one slight problem with that assertion:

Notes Ed Morrissey:

Maybe it’s another State Senator Barack Obama.  You know, another one who would have worked closely enough with an unrepentant terrorist to get an advance look at his new book, and to write promotional material for its sales.  One who partnered with Ayers on a multimillion-dollar school reform project that ended up a failure.  One who owed Ayers after the unrepentant terrorist help launch his career in a fundraiser in the Ayers/Dohrn household.  You know, there has to be at least a dozen Barack Obamas who fit that description!

Unrepentant and remorseless liar, no?  This vile man will sell his soul to ascend to the presidency.  Mark 8:36 asks “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?”

Results of Obama’s “spread the wealth” socialist approach

The Raleigh fishwrap tells the story of some of the victims of Obama’s Marxist approach to the economy:

By 1997, Mugabe announced his plan to seize white farms and redistribute the land. Five years later, Helen was home eating lunch when an employee rushed to tell her that police were parked at the gate and wanted to speak with her.

Sitting at the kitchen table in the couple’s apartment in Ayden, Helen remembers vividly what happened next. Two Mazda pickups, bristling with armed police, were waiting for her. Their leader snatched the gate’s keys from the employee and turned to Helen.

“This is no longer your property. You have 24 hours to get out,” he told her. If you don’t, “we’ll kill you or put you in jail, whichever you prefer.”

It was not an idle threat. In 2000, war veterans killed a neighbor after he refused to leave his farm.

The Herbsts prided themselves on the relationships they formed with their black employees, many of whom worked with the family for years. The couple had provided a pre-school on the property for workers’ children, and a free health clinic where mothers could take their babies. Wally had hoped that his family’s longstanding ties to the area would spare his farm from seizure.

In the end, it did not matter. With the help of neighbors and friends and their vehicles, the Herbsts were forced to pack up as much as they could. Police pilfered from the trucks as the woman who would be moving into their home gave demands. …

Where have we seen this before?  Hmmm:

This produced depressingly predictable results.  The Soviet Union and communist China had conducted similar land purges earlier in the century, and they had resulted in massive famines, economic collapse, and even greater oppression to stop the people from revolting against the government.  In Zimbabwe, the scenario has unfolded in the same manner.  Instead of being a major agricultural exporter, Zimbabwe now relies on food aid to keep its people from starving while its land lies fallow.  Their economy now experience nine-figure inflation rates, making its currency suitable only for wallpaper.

And what was the reaction to the plunderers of private property?  Predictable:

And what has been Mugabe’s response?  Even tighter government control of capital, making the situation even worse.

Ed sums up the failure of redistributionism:

Redistributionism through capital seizure has always failed to produce a livable economy.  Where capital can flee, it does.  Where it cannot, it disappears into massive government bureaucracies and into the pockets of cronies and political allies.  Zimbabwe is a more extreme example, but still instructive, especially for the reaction of redistributionists when they face failure.  They never revert back to the principle of private property, but instead accelerate their confiscatory practices, until no capital remains to rebuild their economy.

It’s a failed principle, with numerous examples of catastrophic impact on nations, and uncountable personal examples like the Herbsts.  After a hundred and more years of redistributionist disasters, we should be smart enough to reject the entire notion by now.

We should be smart enough…but we’re not.  A couple of generations of government school and MSM indoctrination that lauds mediocrity and discourages/punishes success has brought this country to the precipice overlooking the abyss of socialism.  The One is beginning to embrace his inner Marxist, and McLame is too timid to beat the crap out of him on it.

While my new business grows, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will not be hiring any employees or expanding my business to generate more taxable revenue beyond the point where Uhhhhhhhh-bama’s tax plan punishes my success.  Don’t come to me looking for a job this time next year…go to The One whose crippling economic ignorance will cost you your job.

Obama broke IL ethics laws, MSM yawns

From Say Anything:

Apparently, on Obama’s released tax records, he discloses income from speaking fees. The problem? Accepting payment for speaking fees when you’re a legislator is against Illinois state law.

Apparently, as an Illinois state legislator through 2004, Barack was prohibited from taking honoraria for speaking under the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act.

But what about Barack Obama’s 2000 and 2002 tax returns?

2000: On his 2000 Schedule C-EZ, Barack reported that he received $16,500 as a “Foundation director/Educational speaker.”

2001: On his 2001 Schedule C-EZ, Barack reported $98,158 from a Chicago law firm, Miner, Barnhill, for “Legal services/attorney” (and nothing for speaking).

2002: On his 2002 Schedule C, Barack reported $34,491 for “LEGAL SERVCES / SPEAKING FEES.”

These “speaking fees” are in addition to the amounts that Barack was paid as an employee, a lecturer at the University of Chicago, reported on the first page of his 1040s.

That’s not change we can believe in.

Just to sum up, the media can find Joe the Plumber’s tax woes within 24 hours of his having dared to question The One’s narrative, but they can’t find a clear ethical violation in the released records of a man who has been campaigning for President for two years now.

UPDATE: Obligatory “Powell endorses Obama” post

UPDATES BELOW.

Yawn!  This was hinted at back in August.  Is this a game-changer?  I doubt it.

I’m not going to knock Powell for endorsing the candidate of his choice.  What I am going to knock, though, is his candor, or lack thereof.  He claims that Obama’s race has nothing to do with his endorsement, and I think that is a bit disingenuous of a claim.

First of all, Powell is a big-time proponent of affirmative action.  He got on the stage at the 2004 GOP convention and defended AA with gusto.  That disappointed me, because that defense was basically implying that he got to where he did in his life and career as a result of AA, not on his own merits.  Clearly, he’s got a racial component to his worldview.

Secondly, Powell told a bunch of college kids at GWU last month how awesomely McAwesome it would be if we elected a black president.  “Electrifying”, to use his words.  Apparently, Powell feels that any black president, even a socialist one, would do.

Ace summarizes Powell thusly:

Colin Powell was never a Republican. He was a military officer who knew how to play the political game during a period dominated by Republicans. Of course he kissed Republican ass. Just as he kissed Bob Woodward’s ass to make sure he always came out smelling like roses in his books.

The Republican Party has always used Powell, just as he’s used us in turn. We have promoted this dubious figure as — let’s admit it — a bit of a token, proof that black people like us.

But he’s never been on our side. He’s always been a liberal, and, moreover, he’s always been on Colin Powell’s side.

Exit question, redux:  As was asked back in August, don’t you think it’s kind of funny that the same liberals who accused Powell of “lying us into Iraq” now embrace his endorsement?

UPDATE (10/20/2008 – 10:28 A.M. EST):  Brian Maloney thinks that the endorsement may backfire in that it revives the race issue, and that many Americans may resent Powell endorsing a gay simply because of his skin color.  I disagree: I think Powell is irrelevant, and that he will influence no one’s vote.

Biden, Obama’s minions out to destroy “Joe the Plumber”

These vermin will have to answer to God Almighty one day for their despicable actions.  From NRO:

Thank God we live in a free country, where you can speak your mind on public issues, without fear that those who disagree will respond by exposing anything you’ve ever done that you regret or that could embarrass your family.

Oh, wait, never mind. We have to know, according to some, about Joe the Plumber’s tax lien, and how he doesn’t have a license – which, if the smear artists bothered to check the law, he only needs for commercial work, not residential work.

This is the way our opponents operate now. Destroy anyone who stands in your way. Humiliate them. Make sure that anyone else who ever wants to skeptically question Barack Obama knows that every last bit of their dirty laundry will be aired for all the world to see. Bristol Palin, Trig Palin, — hey, it’s all fair game. They’ve got to make an example of them. Show them that this sort of dangerous speech won’t be allowed in the New America.

Remember the man in the plaid shirt, standing at the town meeting in one of Norman Rockwell’s “Four Freedoms” paintings? He wouldn’t recognize this country anymore.

Greasy Joe gets in on the action:

Just a couple of days ago Sen. Barack Obama told Joe Wurzelbacher that he was going to spread Joe’s wealth around. This morning the Obama-Biden campaign appears to be targeting Mr. Wurzelbacher for criticism, even discounting the veracity of his situation.

Appearing on NBC this morning Sen. Joe Biden stated dismissively “I don’t have any ‘Joe the Plumbers’ in my neighborhood that make $250,000 a year.” This may well be true. But “Joe the Plumber” isn’t some fictional character, as Sen. Biden seems to suggest here. And Sen. Biden seems to be ignoring an important point: Mr. Wurzelbacher isn’t a plumber; he’s a small business owner in the plumbing trade. And if his gross revenue as a sole proprietorship hits $250,000 per year, he’s going to get soaked by the Obama-Biden tax scheme. This is a fundamental problem with the Obama tax plan, though it’s certainly not the only problem with it. Many millions of people in that super-rich tax bracket that Sen. Obama talks about aren’t oil executives or hedge fund managers; they are small businessmen and women who have things like overhead and employees and seasonal downturns they need to contend with. Sen. Obama’s tax plan would penalize hardworking Americans like Joe Wurzelbacher. And that’s just wrong.

Pray for God’s brand of justice, friends.

Obama lies about his infanticide record

Here’s the Obamaliar on why he opposed the IL version of the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act:

There was a bill that was put forward before the Illinois Senate that said you have to provide lifesaving treatment and that would have helped to undermine Roe v. Wade. The fact is that there was already a law on the books in Illinois that required providing lifesaving treatment, which is why not only myself but pro-choice Republicans and Democrats voted against it.

That’s a lie, and it’s an easy lie to verify.  I’ve already done that, as have several other sources, yet The Obamessiah keeps peddling his lie.  Fact:

During that period, the Attorney General reported that the practice of abandoning infants born alive during late-term abortions was not covered by the law.  Jill Stanek and others testified to the practice, and the Illinois Senate heard testimony that suggested that as many as 20% of all late-term abortions resulted in a live birth.  Obama lied about the circumstances of the bill; the reason it was being proposed was because existing law was ineffective at protecting infants born alive.

Obama voted against the bill that would have protected infants born alive even after the “neutrality clause” he demanded was added to protect abortion in Illinois.  That is the truth in this case, and Obama lied last night to the American people in an attempt to hide his radical position on abortion.

I know all I need to know about Obama from Revelation 21:8: “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”  Good luck with that, Barry.

Heads up: Obama sends the MSM their talking points prior to tonight’s debate

The One sent His disciples in the MSM their Scripture to be used in “impartial” analysis of tonight’s debate.  From Drudge:

OBAMA CAMPAIGN ISSUES TALKING POINTS TO MEDIA AHEAD OF DEBATE
Wed Oct 15 2008 11:13:03 ET

The Obama campaign issued a set of debate ‘talking points’ to media on Wednesday morning, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

Press Secretary Sean Smith issued the directive in an email from Pennsylvania, 12 hours before the debate.

The memo oddly mirrors much of the main press analysis and theme of the current campaign:

——– Original Message ——–

From: Sean Smith [s***mith@barackobama.com]

* This is John McCain’s last chance to turn this race around and somehow convince the American people that his erratic response to this economic crisis doesn’t disqualify him from being President.

* Just this weekend the weekend, John McCain vowed to “whip Obama’s you-know-what” at the debate, and he’s indicated that he’ll be bringing up Bill Ayers to try to distract voters.

* So we know that Senator McCain will come ready to attack Barack Obama and bring his dishonorable campaign tactics to the debate stage.

Obama continues to lead on the economic crisis with a rescue plan for Main Street.

* Over the course of the campaign, Barack Obama has laid out a set of policies that will grow our middle class and strengthen our economy.

* But he knows we face an immediate economic emergency that requires urgent action – on top of the plans he’s already laid out – to help workers and families and communities struggling right now.

* That’s why Barack Obama is introducing a comprehensive four-part Rescue Plan for the Middle Class – to immediately to stabilize our financial system, provide relief to families and communities, and help struggling homeowners.

* This is a plan that can and should be implemented immediately.

* Obama has shown steady leadership during this crisis and offered concrete solutions to move the country forward – and his Rescue Plan for the Middle Class builds on the plans to strengthen the economy and rebuild the middle class that he’s laid out over the course of this campaign.

* Already in this campaign, he’s unveiled plans to give 95 percent of workers and their families a tax cut, eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000, bring down the cost of health care for families and businesses; and create millions of new jobs by investing in the renewable energy sources.

* John McCain has been erratic and unsteady since this crisis began – staggering from position to position and trying to change the subject away from the economy by launching false character attacks.

END

Developing…

Anyone want to start taking bets as to how many of these talking points will wind up in post-debate editorializing “analysis”?

Satire alert, “Obama’s socialism” edition

Excerpt from the People’s Cube:

While canvassing neighborhoods in Ohio this Sunday, Barack Obama advised a tax-burdened plumber not to worry about money because under his presidency money will disappear since it will no longer have any meaning anyway. Instead, all Americans will be living off Obama’s highly nutritive WealthSpread™ formula that is surprisingly low in effort and is being promoted by a group of leading nutritionists known as the Cook Fringe of the Democrat Party under the brand name “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Earned!”

“So instead of cutting taxes with a kitchen knife we’ll butter it up with wealth and spread it around like we earned it,” the Democratic candidate continued. “It’s a patented foreign blend that is guaranteed to help improve my standing in the polls, but it’s made with 100% pure American taxpayer sweat, which once again shows how taxes can be patriotic.” …

UK’s socialized medicine so wonderful that their own doctors turning to private medical care for themselves

The same health care system that the left would force upon us is so dreadful that the UK’s own system doesn’t trust itself to provide quality health care to its own employees.  From the UK:

An NHS trust has spent more than £12,000 on private treatment for hospital staff because its own waiting times are too long. The money was used to bring in physiotherapists to help workers recover from muscular-skeletal injuries at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

Bosses said it prevented them from leapfrogging NHS patients and enabled them to return to work more quickly.

However, the private treatment, which amounted to £12,116 for 271 appointments over the past year, was described by critics as “shocking”.

Mark Wallace of the TaxPayers’ Alliance said: “Their staff should have to wait like everybody else.  Perhaps if they experienced it as their customers – that is the taxpayer – experienced it, they might be a little keener to improve their waiting times.”

Wow!  Let that sink in for a second.  “Our system sucks so badly that we need to go outside of our own system to make sure that we get the quick and efficient care that we need.  That way, our employees can get back to the business of providing slow and inefficient care to everyone else.”  Only to Euros would that explanation make sense.

Obama embraces his inner Marxist

From The One’s own mouth, in Ohio:

Barack Obama told a tax-burdened plumber over the weekend that his economic philosophy is to “spread the wealth around” — a comment that may only draw fire from riled-up John McCain supporters who have taken to calling Obama a “socialist” at the Republican’s rallies.

Obama made the remark, caught on camera, after fielding some tough questions from the plumber Sunday in Ohio, where the Democratic candidate canvassed neighborhoods and encouraged residents to vote early.

“Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn’t it?” the plumber asked, complaining that he was being taxed “more and more for fulfilling the American dream.”

“It’s not that I want to punish your success (bovine feces! – Ed.). I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance for success too,” Obama responded. “My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody … I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

Team Mac responds:

“If Barack Obama’s goal as President is to ‘spread the wealth around,’ perhaps his unconditional meetings with Hugo Chavez, Raul Castro, and Kim Jong-Il aren’t so crazy — if nothing else they can advise an Obama administration on economic policy,” McCain spokesman Michael Goldfarb said in a written statement to FOXNews.com. “In contrast, John McCain’s goal as president will be to let the American people prosper unburdened by government and ever higher taxes.”

But hey, why would anyone get this crazy idea that Obama is a Marxist?

Foley’s replacement facing his own sex scandal

From ABC News:

West Palm Beach Congressman Tim Mahoney (D-FL), whose predecessor resigned in the wake of a sex scandal, agreed to a $121,000 payment to a former mistress who worked on his staff and was threatening to sue him, according to current and former members of his staff who have been briefed on the settlement, which involved Mahoney and his campaign committee.

Mahoney, who is married, also promised the woman, Patricia Allen, a $50,000 a year job for two years at the agency that handles his campaign advertising, the staffers said.

The affair between Mahoney and Allen began, according to the current and former staffers, in 2006 when Mahoney was campaigning for Congress against Foley, promising “a world that is safer, more moral.”

The outrage at Mahoney from the left is about as loud as a gathering of Air America listeners (both of them).

From Matthew 5:7: “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”  May God be with Mahoney’s family through this personally tough time.

Night and Day, “Obama’s ‘disastrous’ economic plan” edition

The One in February:

In San Antonio on Tuesday, Obama said that Clinton’s foreclosure freeze was potentially “disastrous,” rewarding “people who made this problem worse” by benefiting banks that profit from high mortgage rates.

That One today:

Obama today rolls out another set of proposals for dealing with the economic crisis, one focused more on the human consequences of the crisis.

The plan includes helping out states and localities, allowing people to cash out part of their retirement savings without tax penalties, and an arrangement with banks that would include a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures for many homeowners.

The plan is a striking sign of how far this crisis has moved, and a sign that Obama has shifted toward a more populist approach. In February, after Hillary Clinton proposed a similar foreclosure moratorium, the Los Angeles Times reported that Obama condemned her plan…

Why, if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear the man doesn’t stand for anything and is just making up crap as he goes along, saying things that he thinks people want to hear.

Excellent short column by Jim Treacher.  Money quote:

These geniuses [the MSM - Ed.] used to be a lot better at crafting a narrative, right? There was a time when they might have worried about ruining their own reputations in the process of advancing their political views. They’d at least make an effort to seem impartial. But if their whole industry is swirling down the toilet anyway, why keep pretending?

One last chance for glory before they check out for good.

The Deathbed Media.

Nope…no liberal media bias!
