Catholic bishop: Vote for Obama and risk damnation
Looks like I’m not the only one who thinks that you can’t be a true born-again Christian and vote for Obama. Excerpt:
I would say, “Give consideration to your eternal salvation.” Because to vote for a person who has expressed a fanatical determination to not only support abortion as it exists now but to remove all limitations on it through the Freedom of Choice Act, and to extend it without any recourse, throwing out all of the efforts of citizens over the last 35 years to place reasonable limits on abortion, that voting for a person who has expressed his determination to do this to Planned Parenthood, to NARAL — that you make yourself a participant in the act of abortion. That’s gravely wrong, and you mustn’t do it because your eternal salvation is tied up in that important choice.
Exactly. As G. Craige Lewis notes: “Do we, as Christians, ignore morality and side for money and opportunity?” Although I would argue that under a President Hussein, we would have neither, I would say that if so-called “Christians” were so inclined, may God have mercy on their souls.

The rubber is finally starting to meet the road in the American church. We have had the opportunity to coast along, and now we can no longer. On a lot of issues. In my church here in CA, our support of Proposition 8 (the Traditional marriage amendment) has caused some to leave the church. It is really hard to see. But how do we ignore that God is the creator of marriage, and God defines marriage, and all of nature testifies by procreation that male and female are the design of the union? Are we so enlightened that we now trump God? You can call a Mustang a Chevy till you’re blue in the face, but in the end, it is still a Ford. Because California seems to be the tip of the spear of this enlightenment, I find myself often thinking of the old fable “The Emperors New Clothes”, or your slogan on this site, why think when you can feel.

You were never the only one.

so it is ok to support an adulterer?
Comment by jen | November 4, 2008
Jen,
That is an excellent and valid question, even from an atheist such as yourself.
If the adulterer in question has been born again in Christ and is repentant (which is more than just “hey, sorry about that”) of the sin of adultery, then the prior act(s) of adultery can be ignored. That is true, however, ONLY IF the adulterer has repented. If the adulterer is unrepentant, then a born-again Christian cannot vote for him and “be right” with God. God instructs us to seek Him above all else, so if a man is an unrepentant sinner (like Obama clearly is), then it is incumbent upon those of us who are children of God not to vote for such a person.
I hope that answers your question. If not, please feel free to ask for further clarification.

Jen, you are not seriously trying to draw a line of equivalence between a person who committed adultery 30 years ago and a person mandating the murder of the unborn today!
John McCain has made amends for his wrongdoing and has obviously repented. Obama has not.
Crush is absolutely right. You cannot be a Christian and support the policies of Barack Obama.

good thing i am jewish. when did mccain repent? last i read, he wasn’t a born again christian or even a religious man in the slightest. where did you see that?

good thing i am jewish.
Obviously not a practicing Jew.
when did mccain repent?
Couldn’t give you a date, but it seemed clear to me during the Saddleback Forum that he has repented…especially when candidly discussing the failure of his first marriage. Perhaps KG or someone else here has the exact date of McCain’s salvation, but I admittedly do not.
You sure seem significantly more interested in his salvation than that of Obama. Fascinating that a non-believer is that wrapped up in the salvation of a candidate when salvation isn’t even an issue for you.

when did mccain repent?
Jen, do you even understand the meaning of repentence? It means to acknowledge your sin and turn away from it by vowing not to sin again. John McCain has made amends with his first wife and has turned from his sin. Thus, he HAS repented.
Obama is still perpetuating his sins and does not even acknowledge that his actions are sinful. Therein lies the difference.

Yes that is why I am sick to my stomache at how many black people have voted for Obama. The man clearly supports gay marriage and the other abomination known abortion!
A lot of black folks are religious that is rather sickening to me.
A lot of black folks voted to ban gay marriage in California!
That is baffling to me!
