Election post mortem
First of all, let’s keep the directive from 1 Thessalonians 5:18 in mind: “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” We shouldn’t praise God only when He gives us circumstances that we like. We should praise Him in ALL circumstances, even those such as this election’s results.
Having said that, I do weep for our country. Not so much because of potential economic or national security calamity that the new president-elect will likely bring on this country. Not so much because for the second straight election, we voted for someone who stood for nothing and ran on an empty “Vote for me, because I’m not him.” No, I think of how God dealt with His chosen people who had grown rebellious and tolerated/celebrated evil (see 2 Kings 21:1-16). If you haven’t gotten your soul right with God yet, I would advise you to get started pronto.
If there is any silver lining for born-again Christians here in America, FL did pass a constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Therefore, our liberal state supreme court won’t be perverting the institution of marriage any time soon.
Finally, think back to the election of 1976. An up and coming star in the GOP, Ronald Reagan, ran against the incumbent, Greald Ford, in the primary. The establishment got behind Ford, and Ford’s loss enabled Jimmah Carter to get elected. While that did indeed suck, the fact is that Ford’s loss enabled the GOP to move in a fresh, bold direction. Four years later, Reagan won in an electoral landslide. But we had to endure Carter first.
My point is that there was a prevailing thought within the GOP establishment that McCain was going to attract all these “moderates”, disaffected Democrats, and independents, all of which would propel him to victory. It didn’t happen. After having suffered two consecutive electoral defeats, the GOP is bound to see some housecleaning and likely emerging of new leadership and ideas.

Crush, I share your dispondence. I too weep for the country because I believe we may have passed a point of no return:
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.” Alexander Fraser Tytler (1747–1813).
Another more scary lesson to be learned here is what a complicit media can do to elect/ruin a candidate of their choosing.
Remember,

…and at least the socialists party does not (yet) have a fillibuster proof supermajority in the senate. We’re OK for a few more years.

Be careful what you say. The “Civilian” army may already be watching…

I pray that he doesnt do as much damage as Jimmy did to the country and the world.

The first words that came to my mind last night when I heard Obama had won were “forgive them Father, for they know not what they do”. However, I DO believe the people that brought this coming plague upon us knew EXACTLY what they were voting for. Socialism, abortion, destruction of our Constitution, immorality, financial devastation.
It’s going to be a bumpy ride, no doubt, but Christians must keep their eyes focused on God. We also need to be diligent and stand strong for our Conservative principles and fight the evils of liberalism diligently.

I just want to say thank you for sharing your thoughts and putting so much time and energy into writing about this election
Job well done!

Not only that, but California has done the same (by passing Prop 8), Democrats do not maintain a filibuster-proof congress, and Al Franken has to go back to being just another washed up comedian.

Have you been paying attention to the rest of the worlds reaction to Obama winning the US presidential election? Pretty much ALL western countries and many 3rd world countries are ecstatic. There are however, 2 countries whose governments are NOT happy about it at all. Those countries are RUSSIA and CHINA; the principal military rivals of the US and her allies. The Chinese are worried that Obama’s policies will negatively impact Free Trade which has helped the chinese economy blossom since the mid 90s. Russia doesnt like the fact that the image of the US is improving because they want to exploit resentment of the US to expand their power and influence.
Comment by Rick | November 5, 2008
Rick – Israel is also not happy with this result. Which is understandable. Obama will throw them to the wolves.
Comment by Crusader | November 5, 2008
Interesting that the russian president in his “SOTU” equivalent made no mention of obama by name then announced they will be positioning missiles along the polish border in response to the missile defense system.

The bad thing about a crowd as biased as this is that IF Obama has a successful presidency, you will attribute it not to him, but circumstance, in order to defend your diluted ideologies.
Tsk tsk. Yes, relate his election with “socialism” and “armageddon” even, and expect the rest of the world to take you seriously. It’s obvious you’re the intelligent crowd here. I want to know how you guys even feel about George Bush. If you support Bush but believe that Obama is destroying Christianity you have an overly-simplistic and very warped view of your religion. You should be ashamed for misinterpreting religion to conservatism. Your ideas are hurt America.
And it’s a damn good think you had to “endure” Carter. Whatnot with all the good, Christian work he’s done for the planet, you ungrateful shitheads.
Comment by Joe | November 6, 2008
Thank God the modern ‘revolutions’ in this country are of the soft and non-violent type, most of the rest of the world is not so lucky. There are ideological swings from Right to Left, and vice versa, but I still believe that this is a center-right country, and always will be (watch what happens in four years). We may have to withstand some moonbat damage, but our great republic will survive, no one should doubt that — ever.

Well those very 3 things are what has been happening for the last 8 years. If you dont realize that by now than its time to start actually READING the constitution.

So Kanaka girl, you say that christians should “keep their eyes focused on God” and you’re telling ME to take my medication??
Once you start talking about focusing your sight on non-falsifiable imaginary beings than you’re obviously in dire need of antipsychotics.
Comment by Rich | November 6, 2008
Capitalist Fanboy – the republic died on Nov 4th 2008. What exists now is the Soviet States of America. If you persist in your delusion, I recommend the nearest mental health facility.

I cannot predict my reaction until I see how his presidency transpires. Unlike liberals, I don’t wish ill on my country in order to secure political power.
Tsk tsk. Yes, relate his election with “socialism” and “armageddon” even, and expect the rest of the world to take you seriously.
I apologize if I have done anything to give you the impression that care whether or not the world takes me seriously. James 4:4 says “…do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” In other words, I can guaran-darn-tee you that I have no interest in the opinions of people who are dedicated to their own sin and in rebellion with God.
I want to know how you guys even feel about George Bush.
I’ll let others speak for themselves, but in short, I have been hugely disappointed with his presidency. I voted for him twice, and I feel like I was sold a “bill of goods”. Unfortunately, I’m even more underwhelmed with his successor.
…believe that Obama is destroying Christianity you have an overly-simplistic and very warped view of your religion.
Obama isn’t destroying Christianity, Joe. No man is that powerful. He is lying about his salvation, but he isn’t destroying God’s word.
And it’s a damn good think you had to “endure” Carter.
Yeah, really. What with gas rationing, helping to create the Iranian situation that exists to this day, double-digit inflation, record unemployment, sky-high tax rates, a “wear a sweater” energy policy, etc., it’s a wonder that we’re not more grateful for the Carter years!
Whatnot with all the good, Christian work he’s done for the planet, you ungrateful shitheads.
Ignoring your simple-minded vulgarity, there is no denying that he has done good work for the planet. However, God tells us that good works are not what gets you into Heaven. In Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Therefore, if Jimmah thinks that he can be the anti-Semite that he is, that he can faithlessly and unrepentantly support candidates who perverts God’s will (Al Gore, Barack Obama), and yet can still walk through the Pearly Gates, he’s in for a rude awakening.
I do enjoy when atheists try to lecture Christians on what our religion says and means. Pure comedy gold!

Crush,
Well put. AS I read thru comments 11-18 I was formulating a response. Should have known better by now that you would reply quite nicely.
I too pulled the lever for Bush twice and was very dissappointed with his tenure. When his tax cuts resulted in record income to the treasury things were looking good until the republicans decided they wanted to out-democrat the dems and spend more than was taken in…so much possibility out the window.
Here is my prediction…all taxes will be raised in 2010 by this administration and most people will say “well, this higher tax burden is because of Bush’s cuts going away.”

You have down graded two of God`s children, whom you have never met.I do believe you have freely broken one of Gods commandments by bearing false witness, unless, you have been blessed with the power to see into their hearts, which I doubt. You say you cannot predict your reaction until you see how Obamas presidency transpires, yet you have no problem predicting what his presidency will bring.James 4:4 says “…do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? I do believe you have freely broken one of Gods commandments by bearing false witness, unless, you have been blessed with the power to see into their hearts, which I doubt.
I have no such powers of clairvoyance. I merely judge Obama and Carter by their fruits, as Matthew tells us. Matthew 7:15-16, 20-23: “15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? …
“21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’”
Obama and Carter are such “workers of lawlessness.” They are staunch proponents of abortion (and Obama a supporter of infanticide), both of which are clear abominations in the eyes of God. Obama lies with impunity and without repentance, and his lies (along with Carter’s anti-Semitism) have been well documented on my blog. It is Obama, not I, that bears false witness. America was fooled, but God will not be.
You say you cannot predict your reaction until you see how Obamas presidency transpires, yet you have no problem predicting what his presidency will bring.
I cannot predict how I will react if the Vikings win the Super Bowl this year, but I have no problem predicting that they won’t. My prediction (about the Vikings and Obama’s presidency) may be wrong. Only time will tell.
James 4:4 says “…do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” Makes you wonder why we send missionaries all over the world to spread His word.
What a foolish woman you are! “Friends of the world” refers to seeking approval from man instead of from God. Man is sinful, and to seek the approval of people that contradicts the way of God is to be a “friend to the world”, which is an enemy to God. To live for worldly pleasures that run in conflict with God’s directives makes you a “friend of the world.”
May God forgive you for bastardizing His word to fit your “worldly” view.
