Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Memo to the right: don’t be unhinged like the left!

By and large, most of the conservative blogosphere seems to reflect a somber acceptance of the election results.  Few paranoid conspiracy theories that attempt to explain away the results are present.  It’s not 100% level-headedness, as there are apparently groups of people starting “Impeach Obama” web sites…and the dude hasn’t even been sworn in yet!  But by and large, those are mere fringe groups, to be ignored.

I have a simple request for my brethren on the right: Don’t be like the moonbats for the last eight years!

I don’t have to tell you how batshiite crazy these deranged leftists have been: paranoid conspiracy theories about everything (listening to phone conversations, stolen elections, monitoring Internet usage, etc.), crazy protests, burning effigies, longing for executions of righties, etc.  Probably the most harmless, yet equally stupid, mindset has been “He’s not my president!”

Well, guess what?  Obama is our president, whether we like it or not.  We don’t have to be like the moonbats, who have been steeping in their own mental instability for eight years now.  There is nothing that says we have to agree with any of O’s policies once he takes over, and there is nothing that says we can’t oppose him at every turn if we believe it to be in the best interest of the country.  There even is no rule that says we have to “reach out” to him and be “bipartisan”, especially if his ideas are as crappy as we know they will be.  We can delight in being a thorn in his side, if we do so righteously.  But we cannot hate him.

Moonbats have wished awful things on this country in order to “teach us a lesson” about electing Bush.  We on the right may envision what life under O is going to be like, but I don’t know very many of us that are actively rooting for it in order to curry favor with the American electorate.  One thing from the McCain campaign did get right was this: Country First.

We’ve witness nearly a decade of Bush Derangement Syndrome, and more recently, Palin Derangement Syndrome.  I’d appreciate it if our side didn’t create an Obama Derangement Syndrome.

  1. We don’t have to like the man or his policies, but we DO have to respect the office.

Obama needs our prayers, more than our criticism.

  2. Agreed! No need to act the way the left did. Remember, your success is not based on the person in the White House.

While it appears that I may have to work harder to maintain my success, if Obama actually implements what he’s promised, but I will maintain it nonetheless.

As with everything, minor tweaks will need to be made.

  3. Although I find it VERY tempting to dish it back to the left, I don’t think I can be as unhinged as they are.

I have been very amused at how a simple vote has automatically “transformed” America in the small minds of these leftists. Suddenly, America is no longer racist. Suddenly, America will be well-regarded in the minds of the rest of the world.

News flash to these nutters: America has been and continues to be great, regardless of who’s president. The only thing that could change that is if President-elect Obama manages to implement his Marxist agenda and turns us into another Soviet Union/China/North Korea.

  4. Thanks for saying this.

  5. You are right to warn against emulating liberal behaviour over the past four years – that way lies madness.

However, we cannot lose the game for fear of getting our hands dirty. I do not hate Obama. I believe he is sincere if deeply misguided. I do though feel a deep antipathy towards the rabid moonbats who have consigned conservatism so quickly to the dustbin of history. These people are not in the least bit contented with this victory and will only increase the vitriol going forward. They see a real opportunity for total victory in the culture war, and they are probably right.

What will make principled opposition so difficult is the subtext that any opposition to any Obama proposal can be motivated only by racism. This was used to great effect during the campaign. Obama’s ascendacy will bring true racism out into the open, and this fringe ugliness will be used to marginalize all dissent. I’m sure the stories have already been written for the New York Times. Honestly, I cannot see how this will be countered.

  6. “Don’t be like the moonbats for the last eight years!”

    Amen, brother.

Ed Morrissey had a terrific article on the subject: Learning to be the loyal opposition.

  7. Suddenly, America is no longer racist.

Sadly, I think Obama has caused tremendous damage to the country in terms of race relations. He didn’t get elected because of his experience or accomplishments, he got elected based solely on race and that is just shameful. There are many black men would would make fantastic Presidents, but Obama isn’t one of them. He’s a charlatan.
So much for Martin Luther King’s dream of a color blind society.

  8. Good points-all of them. I have tried to see the positives–I’m healthy and my family is healthy and we can still pay our mortgage, food bill, car note and electricity. What else do we need? Things will be rough potentially but hey 66 million people wanted this–they will get what they asked for–sometimes that is a good thing–sometimes not.

But you are right–conservatives need to not panic, be steadfast in their ideas, faith and convictions and march forward preparing to continue the message as best we can.

  9. And hey, all that canned food and ammo I stockpiled is still here, just in case I have to rough it through a winter storm or zombie attack! There’s always a bright side!

  10. No ODS for me… I couldn’t handle the associated paranoia and have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. I soldiered on through the likes of Carter and Clinton and was privileged to soldier under Reagan, so I see no reason I cannot involuntarily “share” my peanut butter sandwich until better times are at hand again.

I am less concerned about what Obama will do than I am about the direction that the GOP will take to regain relevancy. IMHO the GOP is at a critical juncture and could just as easily choose the wrong path in an attempt to reclaim their losses. They need to quit emulating their failures and more closely study their successes; there are classic examples of both. I do not recall middle of the road ever working for the GOP. The only goodness I see in the ‘wilderness’ is that it is a good place to keep the liberals.

  11. Why the fuck not? BDS served the libs quite well for 8 years, they WON. If we want to win, then madness is the way. Hate, rage, madness, insanity, whatever it takes to win. I just don’t give a fuck anymore.

  12. IMHO the GOP is at a critical juncture and could just as easily choose the wrong path in an attempt to reclaim their losses.

I agree 100%. I predict there will be a power struggle within the GOP between three factions: the “moderate, centrist” faction, the “strict conservative” faction, and the “good ol’ boy” faction. The latter’s concern is retaining power and prestige within the party, without regard to agenda or electoral consequences. The “moderate” faction is where the danger is, because it doesn’t spell electoral success.

McCain dumped on conservatives so many times that he didn’t get them to turn out in droves. Heck, his defeat would have been much bigger had he not picked Palin to run with him. She inspired the conservative base. “Moderates” such as Sen. Lincoln Chaffee and Rep. Chris Shays went down in defeat, proving the adage that given the choice between Democrat and Democrat Lite, voters pick the former.

A bold, strong, unapologetic commitment to conservative values (plus the ability to clearly state those values) will galvanize the base. A timid effort to appear less conservative in the effort to attract “moderates” or “centrists” won’t work.

  13. I think we (we being anyone who did not vote for or support Obama) can and should “dish it right back” the way the Moonbats have behaved over the past eight years. I really do. We CAN do this without hatred, but all the other things mentioned by commenter Crusader I think is fair game. It’s the only manner that the Moonbats understand.

We don’t have to respect Obama, or have any honor for him. We can respect and honor the office, but not the person in it.

And saying “he’s not MY president” is, IMHO, a very fair thing to say, especially when used with overwhelming sarcasm.

We saw what “respectable campaigns” do, they lose. They lost with Dole in 1996 and now with McCain.

You’re the best, Jonathan, but in some ways I have to respectfully disagree with you on this issue. Again, we don’t need to “hate” – but the rest…the rest is all fair territory since it is territory created by The Left.

  14. I agree with you crushliberalism on not stooping to the venom and disgusting behavior the left engaged in for the last eight years.
    I still won’t respect Obama.
Only thing I can respect him on is that he won the election and that is it!
However I will see to it that none of his radical agenda ever comes to pass!
