Fourth of July

I thank God that I live in a country that allows me the freedom (for now, anyway) to run a blog that says things critical of the power structure and the people who run it.  I therefore avail myself of the opportunity to say the following (and I apologize to those that may be offended by this, but I’m speaking from the heart):

For the first time in my life, I don’t know how proud I am of my country.

See, I don’t recognize this country I currently inhabit.  Not anymore.  It doesn’t have anything to do with who this country elected, at least not in and of itself.  After all, I was disgusted when Bill Clinton was elected and re-elected, but I just chalked it up in 1992 to the electorate being tired of “Read My Lips” and such, and in the case of 1996, the GOP fielding such a weak national candidate.  But say what you will about Bubba (and believe me, I say quite a bit), but even that philandering disaster didn’t pull the country full bore to the left.

But in the case of 2008, we had a candidate who had no executive experience of any sort and who had spent every year since he ran for the U.S. Senate prepping himself for his first executive gig…which just so happened to be leader of the free world.  He has spent a lifetime associated with racists and radicals, yet by simply saying “No, that’s not who I am”, the ignorant masses and their snake charmers in the MSM went along with it.  His record indicated that he was very much a leftist ideologue who was more interested in foisting his failed ideology on this country irrespective of the damage it would do.  Leftists have no use for facts, and Oprompter is no different.

And while the public is slowly coming around, I still have no faith in my countrymen.  You see, poll after poll shows that the public is overwhelmingly against The One’s policies: government takeover of private enterprise, endless bailouts, attacking the Second Amendment, closing Gitmo, raising taxes, cap-and-tax, socialized medicine, etc.  Yet while these same people are against these policies, they continue to give the American Idol president decent approval ratings?  “I’m against all these things, big time!  Hmm?  What do I think about the president?  I think he’s great!  What?  What do you mean, ‘He supports these policies’?  He does?  Well…I still like him!  He looks good on TV! ”

More people can tell you who won American Idol than who their two U.S. Senators are or who the vice president is.  I used to think the presidency was not a popularity contest, and yes, I even thought that when Bubba was winning.  But not anymore.  When a pseudo-Christian Marxist ascends to the highest office by charming the pants off of the concubine public, it’s pretty clear that the office is nothing more than a popularity contest.  Nothing more.

Frankly, if during a presidential campaign, the First Lady-to-be can say that she’s just now, for the first time in her life, proud of her country and still see her hubby get elected, then I don’t expect much static for having the opposite sentiment: for the first time in my entire life, I am not proud of my country.

In addition to the president and that recently patriotized wife of his, there are other signs that my countrymen are not what they once were.  One is the gradual move away from the country’s deep Christian roots (and if you are an atheist, then feel free not to comment on this aspect of the country).  When a man professes his Christianity, then says he supports abortion rights, gay marriage, and a host of other abominations to the faith to which he supposedly adheres, or if that man is willing to support candidates who similarly bastardize the faith, that man insults and mocks God and His true believers.

Another is the emerging tendency of the sheeple’s reliance on screwing the producers in order to reward the non-producers.  Note to self: order Atlas Shrugged.  Yet another is the short attention span that this country has.  Remember after 9/11 (for those of you on the left, feel free to Google that in case it doesn’t ring a bell) when the president told us that this would take years to address?  Well, apparently a lot of people don’t recall that assessment at all.  They’re too busy keeping up on the latest with Michael Jackson’s death.  The sacrifice and patience that we saw in the WWII generation appear to be deader than Jacko himself.

During the Bush 43 terms, liberals said they detested their country because of who their president was.  I thought it was rather lame of them to base their patriotism on who the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue happened to be at the moment.  So how is my current sentiment different than theirs was at the time?  Honestly, in some ways, it may have not been too different.  But I would argue that the key difference was this: liberals were mad at their country over the last eight years because it wasn’t morally bankrupt enough for their liking, while I am mad at my country now because it is too morally bankrupt for my liking.  Liberals are devoid of morals, thus their affection (at the time) for Billary and now for Obabykiller.  Sorry, but I don’t roll that way.

I’m sorry, my friends, but in light of the above, I no longer recognize the America that has been described in our founding documents or in our history books.  Madison, Jefferson, et al are rolling over in their graves.  I see no signs whatsoever that the country will return itself to its liberty-based or God-based roots.

I understand that many, if not most, of you will feel differently, and that’s OK.  I do not think you’re stupid for doing so.  But as for me, until further notice, July Fourth is just another hot, muggy summer day.
