Obama: “Stimulus” wasn’t really supposed to “stimulate” the economy!
Dude…talk about polishing a turd! This is spin like I’ve never seen it. From ABC News:
Turns out the $787 billion “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” (AARA) was not designed for full economic recovery, but rather to “stabilize” the downturn. That’s the word from White House officials today, who held off-camera briefings with reporters on how the AARA is working so far.
“This legislation was designed to cushion the downturn,” said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. “That’s why we have always talked about this as one function of economic recovery.”
When pressed about the change in terminology, Gibbs said he was not trying to temper expectations after the fact. “I can probably find 15 or 20 occasions when I said this in the lead up,” Gibbs said, explaining that he had always defined the AARA as part of a “multi-legged stool.”
So Gibbs never used the term “stimulus” in the “lead up” to today’s press briefings? If, by “never used”, you mean “yesterday and the day before“, then yeah…”never”!
Remember when Oprompter sold us this bill of goods in January?
That is why I have moved quickly to work with my economic team and leaders of both parties on an American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan that will immediately jumpstart job creation (near 10% unemployment…nice job – Ed.) and long-term growth…
Why, if I didn’t know any better, I would swear that he thinks the “stimulus” has failed and he needs to sandbag expectations by revising history. As Slublog asks on his Twitter page: “If the stimulus wasn’t meant to stimulate economic recovery, why is the website called recovery.gov?”
Remember when Obama said he didn’t want to run a car company?
Yeah, we knew that the Big Government Leftist was lying, as usual. And as with his other promises, this one also had an expiration date. From Bloomberg:
President Barack Obama “strongly opposes” an effort in Congress to require General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC to restore relationships shed during bankruptcy proceedings, while stopping short of a veto threat.
The administration said today in a statement that “the decision by Chrysler and GM to rationalize their dealer networks was a critical part of their overall restructuring to achieve long-term viability in order to save jobs in the long run.”
The statement also said it would set a “dangerous precedent” to “intervene into a closed judicial bankruptcy proceeding on behalf of one particular group at this point.” (You mean kinda like he did on behalf of the unions that bankrupted the companies in the first place? – Ed.)
But hey, where would you get the crazy idea that he wants to nationalize industry and destroy the private sector a la Hugo Chavez?
Quote of the day, “Biden’s economic genius” edition
I doubt anyone was stupid enough to say this only to have the Vice Plagiarist turn around and steal it. Ergo, this gem of lunacy had to come directly from his fertile gourd. From our gaffe-tastic veep:
“And folks look, AARP knows and the people with me here today know, the president knows, and I know, that the status quo is simply not acceptable,” Biden said at the event on Thursday in Alexandria, Va. “It’s totally unacceptable. And it’s completely unsustainable. Even if we wanted to keep it the way we have it now. It can’t do it financially.”
“We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation,” Biden said.
“Now, people when I say that look at me and say, ‘What are you talking about, Joe? You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?’” Biden said. “The answer is yes, that’s what I’m telling you.” (Listen to Audio)
My friend’s wife tried that approach to their finances: “But honey, if I don’t spend money, we’ll go bankrupt!” She spent. They went bankrupt. I’m just sayin’.
Babs Boxer: What, not all you black people think the same way?
Say, Senator Boxer? I hear aloe works on a freshly spanked tush.
Yes, when she’s not busy being a snotty liberal elitist (pardon the redundancy) by demanding that a decorated officer refer to her as “Senator” instead of “ma’am”, Babs like to spend her time telling black folk that they all must think alike. Ed has the details and the video, which you MUST see:
Red meat by the slab, folks! Barbara Boxer wound up getting reamed by Harry Alford, the chair of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, after attempting to challenge his testimony on energy policy. When Boxer started waving position papers from the NAACP and the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Alford called it a “condescending” attack and complained about Boxer’s focus on black people rather than science…
Oh, come on! I’m sure some of her best friends are black! By the way, she tells him toward the end of the video that his veteran status has nothing to do with the matter at hand (energy policy)…but apparently, being black is much more relevant.
Move over, Chris Matthews: I just got a “thrill up my leg”, too!
