Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Shameless Obama references his own daughter to make ObamaCare point…and gets it wrong

Is there anything wrong with using anecdotal evidence to make a point?  Of course not.  Is there anything wrong with mentioning your own kid in making your point?  No, not if it’s something that actually happened and isn’t a steaming pile of bovine feces.

Which, of course, B.O.’s lie point was.  Details:

When our youngest daughter, Sasha, was diagnosed with meningitis when she was just three months old, it was one of the scariest moments of my life.  And we had to have a spinal tap administered and she ended up being in the hospital for three or four days.  And it was touch and go, we didn’t know whether she’d be permanently affected by it.  It was the nurses who walked us through what was happening and made sure that Sasha was okay.

Holy crap!  I can’t begin to imagine how awful it would be to have a child afflicted with meningitis.

Actually, neither can Obama:

In her speech, Mrs. Obama also told the story of how her daughter Sasha would not stop crying when she was 4 months old. A doctor’s visit revealed she might have meningitis; she ultimately did not, but the illness produced a scare.

I know it may look like nitpicking, but (a) I’m willing to cut the guy a little slack for confusing three months old with four months, since I don’t always remember exactly how old my kids were in months of age when certain things happened; and (b) I am patently offended that a politician would use his own child to make a point that’s not even true.  If you have to make up crap in order to sell your socialist piece of garbage, it’s pretty safe to say that your plan sucks.

Both Obama parents were speaking about the need for health care overhaul in this country, and they both decided to invoke their own daughter to make their point.  Again, in and of itself, no big whoop.  But in order for it to be no big whoop, what you say about your kid must be true!  If baby Sasha was diagnosed with meningitis, then Michelle and the NYT are liars.  If she wasn’t diagnosed, then B.O. is a liar.

Exit question #1: Since Obama said his kid had meningitis, and it is clear that this wasn’t the case, then is B.O. a shameless liar or a detached dad who doesn’t know his own kid’s ailments?

Exit question #2: Didn’t both Obamas, after putting their kids on the cover of magazines and stuff, tell us that their kids are off-limits?  Well, I’d be more than happy to keep it that way, if only the Obamas would follow their own advice.

  1. Michelle also said that when she was told her child might have meningitis, her first thought was “I’m so glad we have insurance”. Seriously??? You get told your child might have a life threatening illness and INSURANCE is your first thought? If so, A) You are either an unfit parent for putting money before your child; or B) you’re a political whore using your children to push a socialized healthcare plan that no one else wants!
