Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Dems: Yeah, we know we’re gonna get spanked for ramming socialized medicine down your throats!

Here is an excellent column (not long) by Byron York.  First, let’s get to the admission:

I put the question to a Democratic strategist who asked to remain anonymous. Yes, Democrats certainly understand that voters don’t like the current bills, he told me, and they are fully aware they will probably pay a price next year. But they have found a way to view going ahead anyway as the logical thing to do, at least in their eyes.

Why, then, be a political kamikaze?

All those scenarios have a certain logic (even if the Senate calculation undercounts the number of potentially vulnerable Democrats). But each scenario is premised on passing an unpopular bill that hurts the party. Even if there’s a strategic rationale for doing it, why are Democrats dead-set on hurting themselves?

“Because they think they know what’s best for the public,” the strategist said. “They think the facts are being distorted and the public’s being told a story that is not entirely true, and that they are in Congress to be leaders. And they are going to make the decision because G**ammit, it’s good for the public.”

But still, does it make sense? In the end, perhaps the most compelling explanation for Democratic behavior is that they are simply in too deep to do anything else. “Once you’ve gone this far, what is the cost of failure?” asks the strategist.

At that point — Republicans will love this — he compared congressional Democrats with robbers who have passed the point of no return in deciding to hold up a bank. Whatever they do, they’re guilty of something. “They’re in the bank, they’ve got their guns out. They can run outside with no money, or they can stick it out, go through the gunfight, and get away with the money.”

That’s it. Democrats are all in. They’re going through with it. Even if it kills them.

I don’t care if it kells them, but why do they have to drag the rest of us into the grave with them?

Let’s pray that we can stop them from destroying our country more than they already have.

  1. Nancy (my jet is bigger than your jet) Pelosi is hoping that some of her “blue-dog” democrats get defeated anyway. She’s through with them.
    I wish we had a leader in the republican party that wasn’t afraid of the PC idiots and would stand up to the dems. Now would be the perfect opportunity for an elected Republican to grow a set and speak for the rest of us conservatives. And next year will be the perfect opportunity to rid ourselves of RINO’s!

  2. The Dems knew after the election in ’08 that this was a once in a generation moment to push the extreme leftist agenda that they have always dreamed of pushing. If they lose in 2010, so be it. It’s all worth it because the Libs know if this agenda passes, it will never go away. The Libs will, just do as they did with Social Security, Medicare and Welfare, say the conservatives and their fat cat allies are trying to hurt the smallest and weakest. The Lefts allies in the press will play the story out and Americans will lap it up like a cat with a bowl of milk. In the end, the Libs can and will gain more in these two years than if they play it safe and keep a majority for 44 years as they did before ’94. We can only hope that the extreme Libs in the House and the moderate Dems in the Senate will come up with bills that will never be reconciled in Conference Committee into a forms that will pass either house.
