Crist flaming out in Florida Republican Senate primary
The primary is still about seven months from now, but it looks like Gov. Charlie Crist was a bit premature in his decision not to run for re-election as Florida’s governor.
He instead wanted to take his brand nationally, to the U.S. Senate. Trouble is, though, that despite being well-funded and having a well-recognized name, his bromance with President Training Wheels has been his undoing. As of today, Crist trails primary opponent Marco Rubio by 12%.
Obviously, a lot can change between now and then. Crist is loaded with cash and notoriety. However, Rubio has decided that RINO-hunting can pay off big time for him. Regardless of who wins between Crist and Rubio, though, the seat looks to stay red, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

This could be troubling – democrats might realize the crushing effect Obama has on a candidate’s election. What will happen if Obama starts endorsing all the Republicans running? It could mean a democrat ultra-super-majority!
Comment by TheBad | February 2, 2010
Obama is not going to endorse a Republican. Crist is not as RINO as many others in the Senate (L. Grahm, Scott Brown, The Mainers). He’s just more centrist than Rubio. Conservatives are just down on Crist because he decided to take the stimulus money and then there was the famous hug with Obama about a year ago.
Crist is still a very popular governor, and he’s never lost an election.
When the candidates start debating, and Rubio starts opening his mouth, Rubio’s stupid statements will start coming out, Crist will pull it out.
There is also the fact Charlie is a Nole, and Rubio is a Cane. That right there should tell you much about Charlie’s judgment and why he’s the superior candidate.
However, I agree there is NO WAY Florida goes Democrat.

Steve,
I couldn’t disagree more. I think Rubio is going to pull it off and Crist will be sent packing. The LAST thing we need is another RINO in the Senate. I say don’t let the door hit you on the way out Charlie.
Rock on Marco!
