Crist removes references to his pro-life record from his campaign website

Just when I thought Governor Oompa-Loompa couldn’t be any slimier, he one-ups himself again.  Details:

In the latest development in the race for the open U.S. Senate seat in Florida, Governor Charlie Crist is coming under fire for removing the pro-life section of his campaign website. This comes on the day the legislature sent him a bill that would allow women to see an ultrasound of their baby before an abortion.

Crist has already hinted he will veto the legislation, which also allows Florida to opt out of some of the abortion funding under the new national health care law President Barack Obama signed.

That he would potentially veto a pro-life bill will broad support from voters is another indication of his strategy to leave the Republican Party and run as an independent.

In order to boost his “indy” street cred, he feels he has to switch positions on a matter that, regardless on which side of the debate you fall, virtually no one switches.  You don’t often see someone who runs on a “sanctity of life” platform wake up one day and say “On second thought, abortion’s not so bad.”  If you ever needed proof that he has no principles, here you go.

May God have mercy on his soul.

  2. This is really sad. I like Crist. I think he has done a good job as Florida’s Governor. You can’t make everybody happy all the time, and he has had to make some tough decisions. He was a centrist Republican who realized one party does not have all the answers. I think many Floridian’s felt that way these past four years and would have made November interesting.

    However, in this drive to separate himself from the Tea Party, he has chosen to turn left to get votes that probably gone his way anyway since Meek (the Democrat running) is a non candidate. This may have killed any chance centrist Republicans (Crist’s base) will vote for him. Florida is a red state, with a couple of large blue counties that are surprisingly socially conservative, as older voters tend to be. This is not going to endear Charlie to those voters, and those voters who are Socially Liberal, won’t vote for Crist anyway.

    Any who, It now looks official, Florida’s next senator is going to be Marco Rubio.

    I don’t see his flip as an effort to distance himself from the Tea Party as much as I see it as an act of desperation because he knows he can’t beat Marco Rubio – so his only alternative is to go after the liberal vote. Charlie is a political opportunist who will do anything to salvage his dying political career. What a disappointment!

    Any who, It now looks official, Florida’s next senator is going to be Marco Rubio.

    Crist knows he’s lost the far Right and hard core conservatives to Rubio that the Tea Party repersents. Charlie should be able to pick up the Republican Moderates and Democrat Moderates in the General election. Charlie has NO Chance of picking up the Far Lefties. Crist moving away from his Pro-Life stance and core social conservative values will not endear himself to the moderates voters in Florida that are older, Democrat and socially conservative.

    This poor move dooms his election chances in the Senate election.

    It was not even two years ago when Crist was spoken as a possible VP candidate and possible candidate for President in 2012. How far he has fallen. However, Charlie is still well liked. I’m sure he will make a turnaround eventually. It just won’t happen in this election cycle.
