Moonbat NH Dem Congressman, seeking Senate seat, slams GOP for holding up jobless benefits bill…then skips out on vote himself
From the Concord Monitor:
After repeatedly prodding his Republican opponents in the U.S. Senate race to support extending unemployment benefits, Democratic U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes last week missed the vote.
A spokesman for the Hodes campaign said an unspecified “scheduling issue” prevented the congressman from voting July 22 when the U.S. House approved restoring jobless pay for millions of Americans who had been out of work six months or more. Spokesman Matt House said Hodes remains a strong supporter of extended benefits.
Hodes was scheduled to appear in Las Vegas the next day at the liberal bloggers convention Netroots Nation, and by Saturday afternoon he had told a Huffington Post reporter at the conference that Republicans who opposed the extension were “extremist, obstructionist, lying hypocrites who think you don’t have to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest but are holding up help for the neediest.”
If we use Hodes’ logic (and in his case, I do use that word loosely), he cares more about schmoozing with Moonbat Nation in Vegas than he cares about the unemployed.
Well, that would certainly go a long way in explaining the voting proclivities of the state, right?
So much gold in the post’s title, no? You’re welcome.
Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank caused a scene when he demanded a $1 senior discount on his ferry fare to Fire Island’s popular gay haunt, The Pines, last Friday. Frank was turned down by ticket clerks at the dock in Sayville because he didn’t have the required Suffolk County Senior Citizens ID. A witness reports, “Frank made such a drama over the senior rate that I contemplated offering him the dollar to cool down the situation.”
The same flaming (no pun intended) leftist who wants us to pay more money to fund his socialist utopia gets bent out of shape at having to part with a lousy dollar of his own (and by “his own”, I mean “ours, since his paycheck is funded by the taxpayers”)? Cry me a river, Barney.
I guess I can see why BF would get in a tizzy at not being able to save a dollar. I mean, that’s one less buck he gets to spend stuffing in the g-string of Rex the Wonder Stud at a Fire Island Chippendales, right?
AZ to Eric Holder: Bite me. Heh.
Nicaraguan mother Lorena Aguilar hawks a television set and a few clothes on the baking sidewalk outside her west Phoenix apartment block.
A few paces up the street, her undocumented Mexican neighbor WendiVillasenor touts a kitchen table, some chairs and a few dishes as her family scrambles to get out of Arizona ahead of a looming crackdown on illegal immigrants.
“Everyone is selling up the little they have and leaving,” said Villasenor, 31, who is headed for Pennsylvania. (Here they come, PA! – CL) “We have no alternative. They have us cornered.”
The two women are among scores of illegal immigrant families across Phoenix hauling the contents of their homes into the yard this weekend as they rush to sell up and get out before the state law takes effect on Thursday.
Awesome. See what happens when you simply enforce existing laws?
Now if only we can get my state (and the rest) to implement the AZ law, then…well, then I guess we can look forward to a Holder lawsuit, too.
Ted Kennedy was unavailable for comment.
Jean-François Heinz-Kerry, who is rumored to have served in Vietnam, has spent his entire legislative career in pursuit of higher taxes on all Americans. Well, apparently his tolerance for high taxes doesn’t extend to himself. Details:
Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.
Isabel – Kerry’s luxe, 76-foot New Zealand-built Friendship sloop with an Edwardian-style, glossy varnished teak interior, two VIP main cabins and a pilothouse fitted with a wet bar and cold wine storage – was designed by Rhode Island boat designer Ted Fontaine.
But instead of berthing the vessel in Nantucket, where the senator summers with the missus, Teresa Heinz, Isabel’s hailing port is listed as “Newport” on her stern.
Could the reason be that the Ocean State repealed its Boat Sales and Use Tax back in 1993, making the tiny state to the south a haven – like the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Nassau – for tax-skirting luxury yacht owners?
Cash-strapped Massachusetts still collects a 6.25 percent sales tax and an annual excise tax on yachts. Sources say Isabel sold for something in the neighborhood of $7 million, meaning Kerry saved approximately $437,500 in sales tax and an annual excise tax of about $70,000.
He was actually for paying those taxes…before he wasn’t.
Hopenchange, transparency…are you feeling it? I’m feeling it! Oh wait…that’s gas. My bad. Anywho…
For at least a year, the Homeland Security Department detoured requests for federal records to senior political advisers for highly unusual scrutiny, probing for information about the requesters and delaying disclosures deemed too politically sensitive, according to nearly 1,000 pages of internal e-mails obtained by The Associated Press.
The department abandoned the practice after AP investigated. Inspectors from the department’s Office of Inspector General quietly conducted interviews last week to determine whether political advisers acted improperly.
The Freedom of Information Act, the main tool forcing the government to be more open, is designed to be insulated from political considerations. Anyone who seeks information through the law is supposed to get it unless disclosure would hurt national security, violate personal privacy or expose confidential decision-making in certain areas.
But in July 2009, Homeland Security introduced a directive requiring a wide range of information to be vetted by political appointees for “awareness purposes,” no matter who requested it.
Career employees were ordered to provide Secretary Janet Napolitano’s political staff with information about the people who asked for records — such as where they lived, whether they were private citizens or reporters — and about the organizations where they worked.
If a member of Congress sought such documents, employees were told to specify Democrat or Republican.
The FOIA law is not an excuse to conduct investigations into active citizens expecting and deserving transparency in government. It is certainly not a dodge for political appointees to keep embarrassing data to themselves so as not to hurt their bosses. Even worse, Napolitano apparently kept Congress from getting information it needs to conduct oversight and provide a check and balance to DHS power based on the political affiliation of those asking for the data. That should be a firing offense, and it should include everyone in Napolitano’s star chamber as well as Napolitano herself.
Democrats: The Culture of Corruption.
If, for some weird reason, you haven’t done so yet, you may now and from this point forward ignore anything that the NAACP ever says or does when it comes to issues related to racism and discrimination. Wait, the same NAACP that just last week, kicked around the idea of passing a resolution condemning Tea Partiers as racist? The sorry details (video at link):
We are in possession of a video from in which Shirley Sherrod, USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development, speaks at the NAACP Freedom Fund dinner in Georgia. In her meandering speech to what appears to be an all-black audience, this federally appointed executive bureaucrat lays out in stark detail, that her federal duties are managed through the prism of race and class distinctions.
In the first video, Sherrod describes how she racially discriminates against a white farmer. She describes how she is torn over how much she will choose to help him. And, she admits that she doesn’t do everything she can for him, because he is white. Eventually, her basic humanity informs that this white man is poor and needs help. But she decides that he should get help from “one of his own kind”. She refers him to a white lawyer.
Sherrod’s racist tale is received by the NAACP audience with nodding approval and murmurs of recognition and agreement. Hardly the behavior of the group now holding itself up as the supreme judge of another groups’ racial tolerance.
We don’t really need to play “what if a white federal government official had said this?”, do we?
The only thing more disgusting than this sorry Obamaton shedding some light on her racist warped viewpoint is the approval she gets from the other NAACP members in attendance. I look forward to the spin that they put forth after the MSM calls them on this…pffffffff-bwahahahahaha! I couldn’t even get through that sentence without cracking up!
Considering that ObaMao hasn’t ever run so much as a lemonade stand, this comes as no real surprise:
President Obama’s auto task force pressed General Motors and Chrysler to close scores of dealerships without adequately considering the jobs that would be lost or having a firm idea of the cost savings that would be achieved, an audit of the process has concluded.
The report by Neil M. Barofsky, the special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program of the Treasury Department, said both carmakers needed to shut down some underperforming dealerships. But it questioned whether the cuts should have been made so quickly, particularly during a recession. The report, released on Sunday, estimated that tens of thousands of jobs were lost as a result.
“It is not at all clear that the greatly accelerated pace of the dealership closings during one of the most severe economic downturns in our nation’s history was either necessary for the sake of the companies’ economic survival or prudent for the sake of the nation’s economic recovery,” the report said.
What kind of authority figures did President Kicking-Businesses’-#ss appoint? These kinds:
Barack Obama put Steve Rattner in charge of running his auto bailout program, a man who had just as much experience in the auto industry as Obama did: he drove a few cars. Rattner had to make a quick exit after just a few months when it became known that he was the target of a federal probe into questionable activities regarding the New York pension fund — and his replacement had just as much experience in the auto industry as Rattner did.
What was the main entry on Ron Bloom’s resume? He was a union negotiator.
Wow. It’s as if the government doesn’t know anything about business and stuff!
Did you drink the socialist Kool-Aid? Not exactly the brand of totalitarianism you bargained for? Well, now there’s “hope”!
Moonbat Congresswoman: Tea Partiers are modern-day KKK members, plus we have two Vietnams living in peace
All those who wore sheets a long time ago have now lifted them off and started wearing [applause], uh, clothing, uh, with a name, say, I am part of the Tea Party.
Oooo. Pithy. Cheeky. Slam dunk. There’s just one little problem: the Klan was, according to all historians, “the terrorist wing of the Democrat Party”. Plus, a Klansman was elected for several decades as a beloved and revered Democrat Senator from WV (Robert Byrd was unavailable for comment).
This level of historical ignorance is not surprising, because she wasn’t finished beclowing herself today:
Oh. My. Stars.
First of all, Rip Van Winkle, due to your 35-year nap, you probably missed the part where there is no longer and North and South Vietnam. It’s one country now. Those crazy kids on the street refer to it as “Vietnam”. They live “peacefully” as one country because the North invaded the South and took over it, after a barbaric and bloody invasion and subsequent imposition of communism.
Secondly, as Moe Lane points out, she apparently is confusing North Korea with South Korea. While they are still two countries (though, as with Vietnam, in a north-south geographical arrangement), to describe these countries as living in harmony is appallingly ludicrous. I mean, the NorKoms just sank a South Korean ship, for Pete’s sake! Nothing says “I love you, man” quite like torpedoing their boat, n’est-ce pas?
Lee, Corrine Brown, Hank Johnson, and scores of others are examples of the levels of embarrassing ignorance that can make it to D.C. on the back of racial gerrymandering.
President Kick#ss’ spokesboob, Robert Gibbs, acknowledged in an interview that enough House seats are in play this November to give Republicans control. Speaker Botox was none too happy:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi bashed White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs Tuesday night, even as the president’s top spokesman continued to backpedal from his assertion that Democrats could lose control of the House in the November election.
The fusillade from Pelosi and other Democrats at a closed-door meeting escalated an already fiery clash between the White House and its own party in Congress. During the tense evening meeting, the speaker grilled the top White House aide in attendance, senior legislative affairs staffer Dan Turton, about the impact of Gibbs’ comments.
“How could [Gibbs] know what is going on in our districts?” Pelosi told her members in the caucus meeting in the basement of the Capitol Tuesday night. (Um…because every poll in the world shows Dems imploding? – CL.) “Some may weigh his words more than others. We have made our disagreement known to the White House.”
It is also rumored that Pe-loco fumed at Gibbs for noticing that water was wet, the sun was warm, and Ellen DeGeneres was a little on the gay side.
Just as certain as death and taxes, you can count on Democrats to lie, cheat, and steal close elections…and the GOP never seems to have the ammo to stop them.
What if an international agitator organization, comprised of unemployable non-bathing miscreants, held a protest and nobody came? Well, it happened, in Boston:
Calls to protest Arizona’s tough illegal-immigration law fell flat in Boston yesterday as barely 400 people rallied in opposition to Gov. Jan Brewer and her policy to use ID checks to arrest illegals.
Organizers had predicted the gathering would draw thousands, but less than 400 people – some of them counter-protesters – showed up for the Copley Square rally.
Organizers with the ANSWER Coalition had advertised that the rally would draw thousands of people from across the East Coast.
Sarah Sloan, an organizer with the ANSWER Coalition, said protesters came from nine East Coast states, but the large numbers did not materialize.
A fiery Steve Kirschbaum, a member of United Steeworkers Local 8751, called the law “scumbag, racist and fascist.”
“Our numbers may be small, but we speak for millions,” he said.
Um…no, Mr. Useless Union Parasite, you don’t. Apparently, you only speak for hundreds.
I think there may have been some confusion, as this guy…
…didn’t get the memo that the role in Invasion of the Body Snatchers had already been filled by Donald Sutherland.
Obviously I am not referring to Bubba’s partnership with Shrillary, since we all know there’s as much passionate love between those two as there is between Rosie O’Donnell and a Stairmaster. No, here‘s what I’m talking about:
Bill Clinton is not giving away his daughter Chelsea’s hand in marriage for another three weeks. But he is going to get a little practice at the altar on Saturday, when he officiates at the wedding of Representative Anthony D. Weiner and Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
The ceremony will be at Oheka Castle in Huntington, N.Y., in the early evening.
Matt McKenna, a Clinton spokesman, told The Associated Press that Mr. Clinton would conduct the ceremony and was authorized to do so, but did not elaborate. Aides to Mr. Weiner, who represents Queens and Brooklyn, declined to comment.
I can only imagine the awkward silence and tongue-biting when Bubba got to the “forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live” part.
Clinton…Weiner…sometimes, these stories just write themselves!
Not much different than their strategy since President Kick#ss was sworn in, is it? Details:
Democratic House members are so worried about the fall elections they’re leaving Washington on July 30, a full week earlier than normal—and they won’t return until mid-September. Members gulped when National Journal’s Charlie Cook, the Beltway’s leading political handicapper, predicted last month “the House is gone,” meaning a GOP takeover. He thinks Democrats will hold the Senate, but with a significantly reduced majority.
The rush to recess gives Democrats little time to pass any major laws. That’s why there have been signs in recent weeks that party leaders are planning an ambitious, lame-duck session to muscle through bills in December they don’t want to defend before November. Retiring or defeated members of Congress would then be able to vote for sweeping legislation without any fear of voter retaliation.
“I’ve got lots of things I want to do” in a lame duck, Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D., W. Va.) told reporters in mid June. North Dakota’s Kent Conrad, chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, wants a lame-duck session to act on the recommendations of President Obama’s deficit commission, which is due to report on Dec. 1. “It could be a huge deal,” he told Roll Call last month. “We could get the country on a sound long-term fiscal path.” By which he undoubtedly means new taxes in exchange for extending some, but not all, of the Bush-era tax reductions that will expire at the end of the year.
In the House, Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva, co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, told reporters last month that for bills like “card check”—the measure to curb secret-ballot union elections—”the lame duck would be the last chance, quite honestly, for the foreseeable future.”
This lame duck session approach can best be described as “liberals’ revenge against the country they hate so much”! It’s like “I’ll show those hayseeds for voting my leftist #ss out of office! I’ll ram more unpopular legislation down their throats on the way out the door…that’ll show them!”
These anti-American vermin are sick.
Here’s what happened:
How did CNN senior editor of Middle East affairs Octavia Nasr celebrate July 4? By mourning the passing of Hezbollah’s Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah. Here’s what the CNN editor posted on her Twitter account:
Sad to hear of the passing of Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah.. One of Hezbollah’s giants I respect a lot..#Lebanon
Fadlallah “famously justified suicide bombings,” as the New York Times recalls in its obituary for him:
In a 2002 interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph, he was quoted as saying of the Palestinians: “They have had their land stolen, their families killed, their homes destroyed, and the Israelis are using weapons, such as the F16 aircraft, which are meant only for major wars. There is no other way for the Palestinians to push back those mountains, apart from martyrdom operations.”
The Times also reports in its obit that Fadlallah is believed to be responsible for the killing of 241 U.S. Marines during the 1983 Beirut barracks bombings…
They should change the name of Twitter posts from “tweets” to “croaks”, because this one killed her job. Jihadist sympathizers in the MSM hardest hit. Details:
Mediaite reports that CNN has fired senior editor of Middle East affairs Octavia Nasr. As Daniel Halper pointed out the other day, Nasr wrote on Twitter on July 4 that she was “sad” to hear of the death of Hezbollah’s Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah–a man for whom she has “respect.” Fadlallah had justified suicide bombings, is believed to be responsible for the Marine barracks bombing, and had said that “Zionism has inflated the number of victims in this Holocaust beyond imagination.”
In a followup blog post last night, Nasr wrote that it “was an error of judgment for me to write such a simplistic comment and I’m sorry because it conveyed that I supported Fadlallah’s life’s work. That’s not the case at all.”
She explained that she knew about all the wicked aspects of Fadlallah’s life–saying she even “lost family members” in the barracks bombing–and was simply referring to the fact that she respected Fadlallah for his opposition to “honor” killings and beating women. But saying you respect Fadlallah for opposing murdering and beating (Muslim) women is almost like saying you respect Osama bin Laden for building day care centers.
CNN doesn’t think Nasr’s apology makes up for what she said. “We believe that her credibility in her position as senior editor for Middle Eastern affairs has been compromised going forward,” Nasr’s CNN superior Parisa Khosravi said in a statement.
While CNN is to be commended for recognizing that her credibility had been compromised “going forward”, they try arguing this with a straight face:
Despite her senior editor title, Ms. Nasr did not run CNN’s Middle East coverage, a spokesman said. She reported and provided analysis about the region for CNN’s networks.
As Ed points out:
So why didn’t they call her a “senior correspondent” or “senior analyst”? In journalism, the title “editor” means something specific — someone who provides management of the news.
Yeah, I’m just sure that her Middle East reporting was objective and free from anti-Israeli sentiment! For those of you on the left, that was sarcasm.
What in the smoldering blue Hell is this crap???
In a far-reaching restatement of goals for the nation’s space agency, NASA administrator Charles Bolden says President Obama has ordered him to pursue three new objectives: to “re-inspire children” to study science and math, to “expand our international relationships,” and to “reach out to the Muslim world.” Of those three goals, Bolden said in a recent interview with al-Jazeera, the mission to reach out to Muslims is “perhaps foremost,” because it will help Islamic nations “feel good” about their scientific accomplishments.
You. Must. Be. Shiiting. Me.
Not a single one of these objectives has jack shiite to do with outer space! Besides, how would a math problem in the Muslim school world read, in order to inspire the little jihadi larvae being brainwashed educated there?
Ahmed has 10 lbs. of C-4 strapped to his 13-year-old body. If 1 lb. of C-4 wipes out 1000 sq. ft. when detonated, then how many Jewish pigs and other infidels can Ahmed wipe out at the local Tel Aviv sidewalk café on his way to see Allah and the 72 concubines?
President Kick#ss personally told Bolden to pursue this collectivist group hug policy. Hopenchange continues to run amok in this country, no?
Good news: Media finally acknowledging “depression” in U.S.; Bad news: only foreign media is reporting it
Let us be honest. The US is still trapped in depression a full 18 months into zero interest rates, quantitative easing (QE), and fiscal stimulus that has pushed the budget deficit above 10pc of GDP.
The share of the US working-age population with jobs in June actually fell from 58.7% to 58.5%. This is the real stress indicator. The ratio was 63% three years ago. Eight million jobs have been lost.
The average time needed to find a job has risen to a record 35.2 weeks. Nothing like this has been seen before in the post-war era. Jeff Weninger, of Harris Private Bank, said this compares with a peak of 21.2 weeks in the Volcker recession of the early 1980s.
Where are our MSM sources in reporting this inconvenient truth? Nope…no liberal media bias!
Enjoy your holiday, everyone!
When CNN and Anderson Cooper suspend their President Kick#ss worship long enough to crap on his efforts to keep them from doing their job (and kudos to them for finally getting around to doing that, after all these years), it’s safe to say that dude has jumped the shark. Video clip of AC here.
Promise to promote transparency by putting ObamaCare debate on CSPAN: broken. Transparency by trying to control the Internet: um, OK. Transparency by keeping the MSM from showing us how bad the oil spill has mucked up the Gulf: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
And you leftwing nutjobs thought Bush was the epitome of lacking transparency? Puh-leeze!
If economic stupidity were painful, this wench would be comatose by now. Quote Speaker Botox, regarding federal unemployment compensation:
It creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name.
Oh. My. Stars. I don’t really need to point out the sheer, unadulterated lunacy of that statement, do I?
Candidate Kick#ss in 2008:
Here’s Mr. Obama on September 18, 2008, not long after the economic collapse: “Senator McCain’s first answer to this economic crisis was – get ready for it – a commission. That’s Washington-speak for ‘we’ll get back to you later.’”
“Folks, we don’t need a commission to spend a few years and a lot of taxpayer money to tell us what’s going on in our economy,” he continued. “We don’t need a commission to tell us gas prices are high or that you can’t pay your bills. We don’t need a commission to tell us you’re losing your jobs. We don’t need a commission to study this crisis, we need a President who will solve it – and that’s the kind of President I intend to be.”
President Kick#ss in 2010:
President Obama’s National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform is meeting today as part of its efforts to craft recommendations by December on how best to address America’s red-ink problem.
Mr. Obama established the commission in February, saying debt and deficits can “hobble our economy” and “saddle every child in America with an intolerable burden.”
A burden for which he and his party are mostly responsible.
This is outrageous, scary, and tragic. From CNN:
A Missouri VA hospital is under fire because it may have exposed more than 1,800 veterans to life-threatening diseases such as hepatitis and HIV.
John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis has recently mailed letters to 1,812 veterans telling them they could contract hepatitis B, hepatitis C and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) after visiting the medical center for dental work, said Rep. Russ Carnahan.
Carnahan said Tuesday he is calling for a investigation into the issue and has sent a letter to President Obama about it.
“This is absolutely unacceptable,” said Carnahan, a Democrat from Missouri. “No veteran who has served and risked their life for this great nation should have to worry about their personal safety when receiving much needed healthcare services from a Veterans Administration hospital.”
