Quote of the day, “Reid admits which is more important, public or private sector jobs?” edition
Dude. Seriously?
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday said Congress needs to worry about government jobs more than private-sector jobs, and that this is why Senate Democrats are pushing a bill aimed at shoring up teachers and first-responders.
“It’s very clear that private-sector jobs have been doing just fine; it’s the public-sector jobs where we’ve lost huge numbers, and that’s what this legislation is all about,” Reid said on the Senate floor.
Right. Government hasn’t gotten nearly big enough over the last 3.5 years, has it?

Yeah, but gov’t employees are UTTERLY dependent upon government spending for their existence. That’s where the dems want as many people as possible – “Depend on US, not an economic contributor (private sector) for your livelihood!”

If the Dems had their way, there would be one teacher per student and everyone would have their own cop and firefighter.

I’ll give you everything except the “last 3.5 years”. It was growing before Obama got in.
Comment by Alli | October 19, 2011
I believe the statement was focused on government growing…not that it didn’t grow at all under George…that being said, how much has it grown AFTER Big O got in???? hmmm?
Kind of like breaking a mechanical part. If it started wearing down under one operator, and then the next operator of that machine comes along and kicks its use into OVERDRIVE and it breaks, one could easily say it was the primary fault of the second operator for overusing an already weakened part. Clearly, the current president has been WAY overusing the “part”
Comment by Kevin | October 19, 2011
Fair enough, and no disagreements here on that point. However the rate of growth has been exponentially higher under the current regime.

Here’s a chart comparing private sector job loss to public sector job loss:

Reid’s statement is so absurd and reference to it should be shouted from every rooftop.
The truth is that the reason Reid and Obama continue to want to pump billions into public sector jobs is because doing so results in a huge kickback from public sector unions whose members (including any new hires from stimulus spending) have no choice but to make contributions to Democrats withheld automatically from their paychecks.
