“Vote black?”
Thanks to Kanaka Girl for passing this on. Please take the time to read this blog post by G. Craige Lewis, a black minister who sees the dangers and evils of voting for Obama. Excerpts:
The 2008 Hip Hop Awards came on the other day and it proved one thing to me. Some black folks will be dumb until Jesus comes back! How can anyone look at pimps, thugs, and gangsters as a good thing that needs to be celebrated? How did Hip Hop become the voice of our youth to the point that the black church is bending over backwards for it’s acceptance? This is a shame. But one thing that they did on this show that really got me going was the push for a “black” vote in the election. Not knowing the issues at hand, but yet and still, they constantly pushed the young folks and HIp Hop fans to “vote black” this election.
How embarrassing! These folks undid everything that Dr. Martin Luther King dreamed of in one dumb hour! They took apart his dream and the civil rights movement by pointing to the black candidate as the mandatory vote of black people. This is sad. Martin Luther King said that he dreamed of the day when people would not be judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character! How can you say, “vote black” and not go against that dream? Just because an african man mixed with white is running does not mean he is the right choice or the only choice for black people. We are moving to the back of the bus again and we don’t even see it. As far as straight politics goes, Blacks are the only race of people that are not bipartisan. We have been conditioned to be on one side and never split our vote. Other races and ethnic groups including, hispanics, catholics, and jews put people on both sides of the ticket for leverage and a voice no matter how the pendulum swings. But blacks stay at the back of the bus and don’t spread out so when we lose, we lose our voice and power. That’s slave mentality. …
Biblical perspectives abound in this post, too:
…I’m sorry folks, but we can’t stay on this road. This is the road that leads to the accepting of the mark of the beast. This is the road that hides the truth and promotes the lie. This road will get you voting for economics rather than morality. And that’s the road that will lead to the antichrist! The bible said that in the end, you will not be able to buy or sell unless you pledge your allegiance to the beast! Buy or sell? That’s economics. Thats money! And if you are voting for economic reasons and not considering morality or your own convictions, then you are essentially doing exactly what the bible predicts will happen in the end. People will begin to vote in the man that will lead us to the antichrist and the end. They will vote this man in based on economic issues and popularity. He will be voted in because of the financial crisis of the government and people will not even consider his true moral ethics. Black Christian leaders have totally abandoned the bible in this election. They have chosen culture over Christ and have accepted the 3 things that the antichrist will implement in his rule. Abortion, Homosexuality, and the silencing of the truth! These things are on the table and being ignored because of the color of a man’s skin?
…
…God forbid! I will not be guilty of ushering in the antichrists policies because a man is of color! I am not practicing to receive the mark of the beast. And if you are voting against your own beliefs and bible for the sake of money, color, or party biases, then you have just passed the mark of the beast test. You have just proven that socialistic reasons supersede your spiritual convictions! And this is exactly what the antichrist will do. He will exalt himself above God and make his immoral beliefs acceptable by all. And without question we see that Barack Obama has caused preachers and pastors, great and small, to follow him in spite of his antichrist morals. Abortion, homosexuality, and the silencing of the church are on his ticket and yet black church folks don’t care. The very things that are killing us as a people are the very things that we are in favor of. The scariest part is that this is just rehearsal for the coming rule of the antichrist and the black church has lined up on the wrong side! I’m not saying that McCain is the answer, but I’m saying that if you are voting, your convictions as a believer in the bible should out weigh every thing else.
Congrats to people like jen who have decided to cast their lot with the mark of the beast. Good luck explaining that one to the Almighty.
This final point is one that I have tried to make clear:
It’s late in the hour and Jesus is taking notes on where you stand. Your vote is your stand. And it would be better to not vote at all than to cast a vote for the very agenda that the antichrist will promote.
Amen, fellow Brother in Christ! If you have moral objections to voting for McCain, then by all means, do NOT vote for him! But as I mentioned before, you cannot call yourself a born-again Christian and vote for Obama. Period, end of discussion.
Please read the post…it’s excellent reading!
Can you be a born-again Christian and support Obama?
I touched on this briefly once before, but I will elaborate a little more on it right now. The question in the headline isn’t rhetorical, so I’ll answer it:
No, you cannot truly be a born-again Christian and vote for Barack Obama. I’ll try to keep this brief as possible.
See, a true born-again Christian is a child of God who has accepted Christ as Lord and Savior of his/her life. As such, the born-again Christian has agreed to replace his/her will with that of God. This person will have his/her eyes opened up to truth, and the truth is that there is good and evil: anything that violates God’s will is evil.
True Christians are expected to be tolerant of good, but not tolerant of evil (Amos 5:15)! There are several passages in Scripture whereby God expects us to condemn sin and He heaps scorn upon us when we don’t. Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19 are two examples early on. God condemned Eli for tolerating his sons’ sinful behavior (1Samuel 3:12-13). The so-called prophets of Jerusalem “strengthened the hand of evildoers” and were an abomination in God’s eyes (Jeremiah 23:14). And of course, Isaiah 5:20 warns those who “call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” The list goes on.
The point is this: God expects us to be intolerant of evil, and to certainly not enable it!
That brings me to my point: Barack Obama is an evil man. He abets abortion, and he enabled and defended infanticide. He lies with impugnity, without remorse. He is corrupt beyond words. All of these are not opinions: they are demonstrable facts. As such, he is not a born-again Christian…but he is an unrepentant evil man.
So-called “Christians” who value the outcome of elections over their own salvation are guilty of putting a god before God Almighty, a clear violation of “You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). One of the reasons I decided to stop blogging at the end of this year was for that reason: I could no longer put politics ahead of all else, if dealing with the ins and outs of politics caused my soul to be poisoned.
Additionally, here’s a clear repudiation of those who enable evil men from Romans 1:28,32: “28 And just as they [fools] did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.” In other words, those who tolerate (and even laud) the wicked are just as much of an abonimation (in this case, an Obamination) in God’s eyes as the wicked.
If you are a true, born-again Christian, you cannot enable such a clearly evil man by voting for him because you agree with him on the environment, economy, or anything else. Your faith…nay, God’s word…compels you to reject him. Anything less simply shows the fruits you bear to be rancid.
Democrats “the party of death”
Matthew 7:16 says that “You will know them by their fruit. Grapes aren’t gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles, are they?”. Obviously, the Democrats are bearing rancid, spolied fruit, and by this fruit, we know them very well. From the Faith World blog at al-Reuters:
[Archbishop Raymond] Burke, who was named prefect of the Vatican’s Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature in June, told the Italian Catholic newspaper Avvenire that the U.S. Democratic Party risked “transforming itself definitively into a party of death for its decisions on bioethical issues.” He then attacked two of the party’s most high profile Catholics — vice presidential candidate Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — for misrepresenting Church teaching on abortion.
He said Biden and Pelosi, “while presenting themselves as good Catholics, have presented Church doctrine on abortion in a false and tendentious way.”
Pelosi drew U.S. bishops’ scorn for saying in a television interview last month that the Church itself had long debated when human life begins. Biden is a practicing Catholic who also supports abortion rights and analysts have said he could help woo wavering Catholics into Obama’s fold. Both argue that they cannot impose their religious views on others.
Burke said pro-life Democrats were “rare” and that it saddened him that the party that helped “our immigrant parents and grandparents” prosper in America had changed so much over the years.
Burke made headlines as archbishop of St. Louis for his public attacks on public figures who strayed from Catholic teaching. He suggested during the 2004 presidential campaign that Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, a Catholic, should be denied communion because of his views on abortion. Several bishops said at the time they would not give him communion and the media staked out churches where he attended Mass to see if he received it.
It’s so simple that even a Geico caveman can see it: you cannot claim to be a Christian in general, and a Catholic in particular, if you distort and ignore Scripture’s position on abortion. Christ will know you from the fruits you bear.
College student finds Jesus Obama
Do you guys remember when the deposed troll Andrew said that the “Obama as messiah” thingy was just a right-wing myth, despite all of the examples I gave him to the contrary? Well, this bit of blasphemy should remove all doubt. From NRO:
In the Smith College student newspaper, a student writes an impassioned op-ed declaring Obama to be her “Personal Jesus.”
My interest was piqued, but the dark time lived on until my faith in others was renewed on Jan. 4 in the Iowa state primary. Obama had beat out squeaky clean southern boy John Edwards and former first lady and next in the line of political succession Hillary Clinton. I was in shock. And then I came to Jesus/Obama.
I donated to the campaign. I followed every primary with bated breath, and muttered my prayers to the political gods while proselytizing the miracle of my new prophet. I got a car magnet, I bought a t-shirt; a pin and bumper sticker are on their way to my campus mailbox. Then the media and right wing questioning began: what is he? A rock star, or the next president? Bono or Britney? The naysayers used his popularity among young people against him. Who had ever heard of political posters in college dorm rooms? Bumper stickers on the back of your high school neighbor’s Jetta? Guess what those “Jesus is my homeboy” t-shirts were replaced with at Urban Outfitters? A smiling Obama under his own cutesy sayings like “Obama for yo Mama.” …
I’ve officially been saved, and soon, whether they like it or not, the rest of the country will be too. I will follow him, all the way to the White House, and I’ll be standing there in our nation’s capital in January 2009, when Barack Obama is inaugurated as the 44th president of the United States of America. In the name of Obama, Amen.
Perhaps this is parody. I’m not sure.
One can only hope this a parody, but given the state of colleges and universities today, I doubt that it is.
2008 to mark the end of Crush Liberalism blog
I have been blogging at Crush Liberalism for just over four years now, through two presidential election cycles. I have made many friends, acquaintances, and even a few cyber-enemies whom I likely will never meet (praise God). I thank everyone who has been kind enough to spend any portion of his/her time reading my posts.
However, 2008 will be the last year of Crush Liberalism. There are a few reasons as to why this will be.
First of all, I’ve kicked around the idea for a couple of years now, but only recently I have gotten more serious about it. No, my political ideology hasn’t changed much (although I have admittedly become more socially conservative that I ever thought I would). However, the way with which I interact with my fellow man has been changing, and for the most part (i.e. not always, but most of the time), I think it’s been changing for the better. It has been spiritually challenging to “love thy neighbor” when thy neighbor is depraved, sick, and/or hateful. It is difficult to demonstrate Christian love on people who would just as soon spit on you as look at you, or people who would rather our society deteriorate more than it already has so long as his/her desired politician wins an election. God tells us that we are to love, forgive, and pray for such lost souls, but we are under no obligation to fraternize with them if they will spiritually drag us down. In other words, love them anyway, and move on from them. For further reference, see 1 Corinthians 15:33 (“Bad company corrupts good morals”).
When my Earthly life has passed, I don’t want to have been known as a guy with a caustic tongue who had finely honed the art of sarcasm to skewer politically misguided/deranged people. After all, Colossians 4:6 says to “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” 2 Timothy 2:23 says to “avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.” God tells us that we Christians are known by the fruits we bear, and I no longer wish to be known for bearing rancid fruit. If I am to ever lead a single person to Christ, I need to live by example. Shredding a moonbat is temporarily gratifying, but I have way more fun doing that than God would like for me to have. Therefore, I need to stop doing it.
Before any of you get the idea that a particular person or persons have driven this decision, let me move on to reason #2: Blogging effectively is time consuming.
I have always believed that if you’re going to do something, do it to the best of your ability. For me, that means blogging frequently with stuff that I think will be of interest (or, sometimes, things that are only of interest to me). I have recently started my own business, and with the time I need to dedicate to growing that business, plus the time I spend reading (the Bible, “The Case For Christ” by Lee Strobel, etc.), plus the time I spend at my day job, plus the time I spend volunteering at and working out at the YMCA, plus the time I spend with family and friends on the weekends (when I’m not working the business)…do I really want to spend what little time I do have writing about things/people that could elevate my blood pressure? Is it possible to blog about politics AND be a born-again Christian? Of course…just not for me.
Reason #3: Following up the trial balloon I floated recently about being “sick of politics”, the fact of the matter is that I am indeed sick of politics.
True, I will likely always follow current events, including those that are oftentimes political. But I no longer want to invest my time and energy deeply rooted in the ways of the world, especially those which I cannot control. Granted, I will always vote and encourage others to vote in a manner similar to mine. However, the outcome is known ahead of time by God, so I will simply do my part and allow His will to unfold afterwards. God knows what I want to happen in politics, but I’m pretty sure He doesn’t concern Himself with my opinion too greatly. I’m tired of seeing unrepentant liars, thieves, and corrupt power-hungry morally bankrupt scoundrels in office bloviating on TV and the Internet.
Basically, I need to focus on the things that are important in my life: God, family, friends, business, etc. Colossians 3:1-3 says that if we are “raised with Christ”, then we are to “seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Life is too short to spend it spinning your wheels on matters that, in the scheme of the universe, are fairly trivial. I don’t want to be rude, sarcastic, frustrated, or anything like that…not anymore.
For those who have incurred my ire over the last four years, I ask for forgiveness. Regardless of who “started it” or whatever, I am to be held accountable for my own actions and reactions. This doesn’t mean that we’re going to be BBQ buddies or anything (see reference to “bad company” above), because I cannot allow myself to associate with people who are going to bring me down. However, I also cannot bring myself down by staying angry at anyone, because being bellicose with one’s fellow man doesn’t make God happy. So to jen, Kira, and any/all other people who I have insulted/slighted (regardless of provocation, which is irrelevant), I apologize…and I also pray for you (whether you want me to or not). Pride is a quality that I need to eliminate from my life, and believe you me, that task won’t be easy. Then again, the road isn’t supposed to be easy. See this for more on that.
December 31 will be my final post here. I will be posting between now and then, though the frequency remains to be seen. I am hanging it up, regardless of who wins the 2008 presidential election. Until then, consider this post as part of a “farewell tour” of sorts.
In closing, I would like to give a heartfelt “Thank you!” to all of you that stopped by here over the weeks, months, and years. I grew from being a one-man echo chamber to receiving an average of 700+ unique visits per day (with a few days getting me over 1,300) and being mentioned on a number of high-profile media blogs, and none of that could have happened without you taking time out of your busy schedules to grace my presence with yours. I don’t think words can properly express the depth of warm feelings I have for you fine folks. If you would like to keep in touch with me, please feel free to e-mail me at crushliberalism AT hotmail D0T com. Thank you again, everyone!
Your friend in Christ,
Jonathan AKA Crush Liberalism
(Yes, I still want modern Western liberalism to be crushed…just not liberals! After all, liberals are people, too.)
Obama the “Christian”
Obama is such a devout Christian that he…um…mocks the Bible.
His words, folks, not Jeremiah Wright’s words.
Christian AND pro-choice?
Last week, San Fran Nan opined that the Catholic church didn’t quite understand abortion properly. She attempted to set the church straight, but as her colleagues demonstrated, she is either woefully uninformed or lying through her teeth.
This begs the question: can a person be a born-again Christian and pro-choice? Well, quite simply…no!
Hey, I understand the reality that abortion is legal, and it likely will be legal for quite some time. To the best of my knowledge, the only way to make the practice illegal is either by (a) passing a constitutional amendment banning abortion (highly unlikely, given the supermajorities needed for that); or (b) passing a law banning it, having the law declared unconstitutional, and getting the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade on appeal (highly improbable, but probably slightly more doable than the former option). In other words, abortion is going to be legal for the foreseeable future.
Having said that, you cannot be a born-again Christian and be pro-choice. A politician that claims to be both is a false prophet and bears “rotten fruit” (spiritually speaking). Just because the world says it’s OK doesn’t mean that God does. The Nuremberg defense won’t work on Judgment Day.
If you’re not a Christian, then this fact shouldn’t bother you. And if you’re a true born-again Christian…then this fact shouldn’t bother you, either.
